Destiel Reverse Bang Rules, 2017

Nov 25, 2016 12:13

Overview:
This is a reverse of the usual Bang challenge. Each artist wishing to participate creates at least one piece of art featuring characters from the Supernatural pairing: Destiel, or Cockles (excluding the real-life children of the actors) that will be posted anonymously to be claimed by an author.
Authors are then expected to write a short fic (minimum of 3,000 words) based on the art they choose.

We expect authors and artists to leave their Destiel Reverse Bang stories and artwork accessible and unlocked for at least six months after posting. We also strongly encourage that if you plan to delete or lock your journal after posting, that you consider archiving your work at an additional site such as AO3 or deviantart.

**Due to some issues addressed in another challenge, we will be requiring your story to be posted COMPLETE to LiveJournal, AO3, or Fanfiction.net and not posted over time to these sites for the sole purpose of driving up traffic/hits.
This decision is done so that there is a level playing field for all participants. It is not a "competition," it is a personal challenge and is meant to add creative content to the fandom and ship we all love.
-Besides, one of the draws to a Bang Challenge is the increased visibility of your work in the first place.

You must have a LiveJournal account to participate in this challenge, and all participants should join the community to ensure that they don't miss important deadlines or updates to the challenge. Some posts (like the art previews) will be members-locked.

Artist Rules:
By the rules of this challenge, each submission should be one (1) piece of new art, and it should be completed. Completed meaning, that it is fit to be a stand-alone piece. (You may still add and make changes to your work after claims, but an author should be able to use it as a prompt as-is).
Your art may NOT have been posted anywhere else previous to this challenge.

Minimum requirements: 400x600 pixels for 2-dimensional art and photos of 3-dimensional crafts, or 30 seconds for a video. There is no maximum, but keep your file sizes in mind so uploading isn't difficult. All media welcomed, be it digital or traditional, 2-D or 3-D!

Artists may submit up to two (2) separate pieces of art for this challenge, but only if they make the Early Bird deadline with the first of them. They may submit one (1) piece if they miss the Early Bird deadline.
The Early Bird deadline this year will be Wednesday, January 25, 2017. All other art will be due Saturday, January 28, 2017. (Feel free to send your art in before the deadline!)

This challenge is open to both Destiel and Cockles pairings, so long as it includes at least one character or actor from those two pairings. Artists may choose to specify what side pairings (if any) they envision in the story, maximum rating, squicks, and a short text description of their piece (optional). Please note: the description is not meant to be a story prompt or request!

We suggest:

  • Please avoid specific crossovers (ex: Marvel, Nightvale, StarWars, etc.). You can still make the art, but please allow the writer flexibility with the material. Don’t let this hinder your creativity, but please allow flexibility with the prompt.
  • We understand that not all writers may be willing to write RPF. We strongly suggest that Cockles artists allow for either Cockles or Destiel. If you don't mind your Destiel art being used for Cockles fic, please add it as an optional pairing.

*Because of the wonderful wealth of writers we have in the SPN fandom, artists are not allowed to also sign-up as authors. The only exception to this is pinch-hitting, for which everyone can participate-after the first claiming process.

A certain level of communication with your writer is expected. At the least, you should let your writer know if you will be making any more art, and provide an on-time link to your art masterpost.

Also, PLEASE DO NOT repost the art to any public site i.e: tumblr, DeviantArt, etc. until after it has been united with its fic and officially posted to the community as a finished product. After that, have at it!

All submissions will be through email. Email your submissions to destielreversebang@gmail.com ( Submission Guidelines Posted Separately)

Writer Rules:
Authors must write a fic with a minimum of 3,000 words, based on the art they chose during the Art Claims. Claims will be first come, first serve. Your fic must be related to the art for which it is written, and it cannot have been already posted elsewhere.

Rough drafts will be due Monday, March 27 through Friday, March 31, 2017. They are expected to be at least 2,500 words long, and should include an outline of uncompleted sections. We will be checking!

If, when it’s time to submit your Rough Draft, you are complete and ready to post, let us know. (See submission info for more details)
Also, a certain level of communication with your artist is expected. If you do not meet your deadlines or fail to communicate with your artist, you may receive one or more warnings, after which a pinch-hitter will be assigned.

The fics must be beta read!  If you’re having trouble finding a beta, feel free to ask on tumblr, Twitter, or check here.
*Due to interest, we will also be creating a Beta signup post after claims.*

Currently, authors are not allowed to also sign-up as artists, and vice versa. The only exception to this is pinch-hitting, for which everyone can sign up (please see the Artist Rules, and Pinch-Hitters), provided that they are on-schedule with their initial prompt(s).

And lastly, authors may NOT alter the art itself in any way without the artist's permission and approval.

All submissions will be through email. Email your submissions to destielreversebang@gmail.com (Submission Guidelines Posted Separately)

Pinch-hitters:
We understand things happen, and writers may end up dropping out. If this happens, we will release a list of art that needs pinch-hitter authors.
These authors will be working within the schedule of the Reverse Bang, and will have to finish their work BEFORE the last scheduled post. If you might be interested, keep an eye out for that list.
If you are already wroking of a fic you may sign up-as long as you are on-schedule with your initial prompt(s).
*Artists may not write for their own art.
