I'm haunted and weeping

Oct 14, 2007 14:10

Roger's been ill at ease since his strange encounter. But there is something to be said about how much he's changed since he arrived on the boat, in that he hasn't crawled away somewhere to get drunk, high, or some combination of the two ( Read more... )

Here's an interruption in the form of one Mimi Marquez, passing by and giving his hair a slight ruffle. "Hey, Roger."

Roger finishes the verse then stops. "Hey, Mimi." Look, it's mostly not an awkward smile! "How are you?"

She sits, then, on the edge of the couch and gives him a not awkward smile in return. "I'm good. You?"

"More or less. I'm just living, you know?"

Ali usually just flops down nearby if Roger's playing, and waits for him to finish. Of course, flopping is a little difficult when you've got a baby boy in your arms.

But she hasn't seen him in a while. Long enough to make her stop, anyway. We'll just have to replace 'flopping on Roger's lap' with 'sitting down carefully'.

It has been entirely too long since there was an Ali around, on his lap or not. He sets his guitar carefully then squishes her just as carefully.

"Hey Ali baby!"

Ali would not argue the first point. Or the squishing. There is beaming, and not-quite-bouncing.

"Hey there! How're you doing?"

Todd babbles a short hello of his own.

"Better now," he answers truthfully.

Todd gets a grin of his own and a kiss on the forehead. Really, it's almost shocking the way the big tough rockstar melts into a puddle of goo around babies.

Olive's standing nearby, half hidden behind the wall she's peering around to watch him and to listen to the song he's playing. She loves listening to him play, but hates to interrupt. So until he notices her head peeking out, she'll just be listening contentedly.

He finishes the song with a flourish and happens to turn his head. Seeing Olive, he sets his guitar down and grins. "Hey, Olive!"

^_______^ She steps out from behind the wall and gives a small wave. "Hi, Rogerdad."

"How are you, sweetheart?" If she needs a hug, he's ready, willing and able to give her one.

Bella, who has been aimlessly wandering around ever since her meeting with Death, suddenly finds herself in Roger's room.

"So it appears I'm not the only one who is a bit shaken by our newest inhabitant."

"Hmm?" Roger pauses in the middle of his note. He hadn't realized anyone had joined him on the deck until just then.

"Everyone just seems more distracted around here since...he arrived."

"Who?" It takes a little while for Roger to come out of his musician mode sometimes.

Unfortunately for Roger, der Tod has always loved music. He doesn't go out of his way to make his presence known, but if Roger happens to take a good look around he'd probably spy a dark figure elegantly reclining in the shadows, somewhere elevated. Death has a thing for heights, he always has liked the view being up above everything. Right now though, his attention is all on Roger.

For the moment, Roger is lost in his music. The song reaches the point where a guitar solo is called for, and he executes it with every bit of passion and talent he can pull from his soul.

And for the moment Death is content to let him stay that way, listening to the music, waiting for the song to end before he does anything that might draw attention.

The song ends with a flourish. Roger sets his guitar down and turns to the table beside him, needing a drink from his glass.

"Still got it," he triumphantly says to himself.
