Reintroduction

Oct 13, 2008 09:01

Gen had been taking a walk, not thinking of anything in particular, when he found himself back in the common room of the Mansion.   When he looks up, he already knows the answer, but calls "Roxane?" regardless, just to be certain.

When there's no answer, he sighs.  "Well."

"I'm sorry, my cousin hasn't been around lately. Can I help you?"

Let's start with a sweet sound of confusion ! Though we're supposing Gen would know who's talking to him from the writing desk, likely so.

He turns toward the voice, and says in French fluent enough to be native, "I doubt my Roxane is your cousin, though perhaps it's possible. She's American."

"Clearly, we are not thinking of the same Roxane," Cyrano replies with a flamboyant bow that includes a wave of the three-feathered hat. "But you never know, several generations removed..."

He's impressed with the French - which makes him think of his friend Helen, in turn.

"Very possible." He returns the bow, much more subdued. "I am Gen Watanabe. And the Roxane in question is surnamed Coss."

"Lost someone, Edain?" That's Caranthir, for you, walking back from another (imprudent) walk in the woods, and a large deer over his shoulder.

This time, he went alone, so he'll be sneaking the catch discreetly - somehow - though considering how the kitchen is the Finwean treehouse, he's bound to have a hard time.

"I fear it's rather that she lost me, as I was at home, and now I'm here."

"Ah, that. Pesky, I know." He drops the venison to the ground and cracks his shoulders - Gen might notice that Cara has a bad, bad scar in the middle of a cheek, a dark star of a thing, a forever reminder of his very personal interface with Grond.

"Maybe she's here. Person I was traveling with was when I arrived. Then again, so was his dead twin."

He makes a face. No, Cara is not repressed. He compensates for all his relatives' inability to call a duck a duck.

He nods. "I was here once before, years ago my time. But... perhaps she could have come in the interim. I suppose I will see."

"Well, at least you're not waving a sword around," Puck observes from his windowsill. "Welcome to the Mansion."

"Welcome back, rather. But I thank you." America must be rubbing off on him, he thinks. That correction was rather rude. It must be the sudden arrival.

"Ah, you were here too, before?" Robin gives him a smile. "Amusing that you remember. Not every one does."

Apparently, it doesn't bother Puck at all.

"It'd been several years. At least for me."

Phedre is going to be sitting somewhere, reading a book. If Gen wants to talk to some a bit less obnoxious than the loud people he met so far, she'll be glad to offer him some tea and a calm conversation.

If she looks up as he approaches, he will offer a small day. "Good day, miss."

She does - Phedre is never completely oblivious to the world, it is just the way she was trained.

She stands, curtseys politely. "Good day, sir." And she smiles.

T: As Phedre, Robin, Puck, Cyrano and Cara are all reintro'd characters, if Gen wanted to remember any of them, no problem - they have all been reset, though.

"How are you, this day?" he asks politely.

T: I don't believe he met any of them, the last time round, which simplifies things for everyone.

A familiar (and rather missed) voice! Edgar looks up from his book, with a bit of a start. "Gen?" And for a moment, there's visible relief on his face--he stands, dropping his book, hands raised to offer a firm handclasp in greeting--but the visible changes give him pause. "Mr. Watanabe," he says, lowering his hands. "Whatever has happened?"

"Edgar - " He smiles, a bit awkwardly, but truly enough. "I confess, I did not ever expect to see you again. How long has it been, for you?"

"Two months, perhaps? Closer to three, I think." Gently, "Where in God's name have you been?"

"I left rather the same way I arrived. Turned a corner and I was back where I'd started. I was half convinced I'd dreamed the whole thing, but I never truly believed that. It's been... almost four years, now." Something rough has clearly happened in that time, but not terribly recently. "How very odd to be back here."
