The library was certainly not the first room most people would expect to find Lestat de Lioncourt, but many things had changed.

However, it would alleviate some surprise to learn that he was flipping through Shakespeare, King Lear. He sat sideways in the chair, hardly proper, but that didn't concern him at the moment. The chair was large enough ( Read more... )

A pair of tall (though not nearly so tall as some of their relatives), redheaded Elves wander into the room, and pause at the sight of Lestat. One hangs back a moment, head cocked, the other frowns and narrows his eyes. They don't remember their previous meeting with Lestat, but their reactions as Elves really aren't all that different from their reactions as dogs. They know something's off about him (holdover from before, or Elvish intuition perhaps), but they can't put their finger on what.

It was impossible to deny that there wasn't something familiar about the twins, and Lestat gave them a long look-over. With a slow smile, he closed the book, but let it sit on his lap. He spoke with perfect politeness, the tone of his voice as smooth and gentle as it had been when the Elves were dogs. "Hello."

The twins exchange a glance when they see the grin, the one in front (the elder twin) furrows his brow, the second (the younger) puts a hand on his twin's shoulder and steps forward to bring himself even with his brother. "Hello," he says. "I don't think we've seen you around before." There's an unintended hint of a question in his tone, barely noticable, from that same odd familiarity.

"Have we not?" Lestat's voice held the same question, despite the fact that he knew he'd never seen the twins before. However, he wasn't above pretending that he might have. He stood, slipping the book from his lap and setting it on the table next to him. The wariness of the two boys did not escape him, and even as Lestat stepped forward, he kept a respectful distance. "We will have to remedy that."

Have a Jaenelle, who comes into the library rather hesitantly, having been wondering where to find him. "Hello?" She asks, a bit shyly.

Despite being able to hear Jaenelle's approach, Lestat did not look up from his book until the library door opened. He smiled politely, his full intention immediately on her. "Hello, my dear." Lestat straightened to sit properly and gestured to the chair opposite him. "How did your plants fare?"

She sits and smiles at him. "Very well, thank you. I finished what I was making this morning." She hesitates. "I just wanted to apologize for Daemon's behavior the other day."

Lestat waved one of his hands dismissively and continued to smile at Jaenelle in a calm way. "Do not think on it another moment. I am glad to hear that you managed to get your work done." He paused, and then continued a bit more meaningfully. "I hope that he was kind enough to help you."

Here's the not-so-innocent woman he met upon coming here, and she comes strolling in, looking for a book that a friend recommended to her, and sees him, immediately changing her course in his direction.

The book that Lestat had been reading was now closed and put away, as if he wouldn't even consider giving it a moment's attention now that Melisande was in the room. He stood to meet her, and offered his hand in greeting. "You found me!" exclaimed Lestat lightly, as if he'd been waiting there for her all evening.

She laughs and takes his hand with a little inclination of her head. "Of course. I wouldn't have dared not to."

"I find myself to be the fortunate one in that," replied Lestat, and his eyes remained on Melisande's as he bent to kiss her hand. He kept it a bit too long afterwards, as though forgetting to release it at all.

Aaron is lounging in a chair across the library and watching Lestat with narrowed eyes. There's something off about him, but for now he'll hold off on approaching or calling in his Jewels. He's young enough that getting snarly isn't yet his default response to anything.

Aaron's presence was something that Lestat had been aware of for a little while, but he continued to flip the pages of his book as if he was entirely oblivious. Finally he lifted his eyes, and they widened slightly when they met Aaron's, but then he smiled. Slowly he sat forward, swinging his legs back down from the armrests, and met Aaron's narrowed eyes with entirely friendly ones. "May I help you?"

Aaron tilts his head and examines him closely. "I'm not sure," he says honestly. "You feel a little odd. I'm trying to decide whether I should get pissy or not."

"Oh?" Lestat smirked and lifted one of his hands to deftly touch the top of his other one. "I would ask how you can feel me from there, but I'd rather speculate."

...I'm sorry.

Lucivar is looking for Jaenelle to practice with, and the first place to check is the library. "Cat! Get out here!" He bellows upon first entering the door, and proceeds to stalk down the aisle, checking each row for a certain Witch. However, he might find something a little less welcome.

The shouting made Lestat sigh quietly, and he closed the book with intense annoyance, though the expression smooths over the moment he meets Lucivar's eyes. "I haven't seen a cat," he said, quite politely, but not without a hint of mockery in his tone.

Lucivar's hackles go up immediately as he sees Lestat. "You," he snaps, rustling his wings. "And not a cat, Cat. Jaenelle. Not that it's any of your business." He's really trying to be nice. Lucivar isn't very good at that, though.

As though oblivious to Lucivar's abrupt manner, Lestat replied in a cool voice, "I haven't seen her." This was a lie, of course. The quite pleasant girl had been in there earlier, but he saw no reason to tell Lucivar this.
