The library was certainly not the first room most people would expect to find Lestat de Lioncourt, but many things had changed.

However, it would alleviate some surprise to learn that he was flipping through Shakespeare, King Lear. He sat sideways in the chair, hardly proper, but that didn't concern him at the moment. The chair was large enough ( Read more... )

...I'm sorry.

Lucivar is looking for Jaenelle to practice with, and the first place to check is the library. "Cat! Get out here!" He bellows upon first entering the door, and proceeds to stalk down the aisle, checking each row for a certain Witch. However, he might find something a little less welcome.

The shouting made Lestat sigh quietly, and he closed the book with intense annoyance, though the expression smooths over the moment he meets Lucivar's eyes. "I haven't seen a cat," he said, quite politely, but not without a hint of mockery in his tone.

Lucivar's hackles go up immediately as he sees Lestat. "You," he snaps, rustling his wings. "And not a cat, Cat. Jaenelle. Not that it's any of your business." He's really trying to be nice. Lucivar isn't very good at that, though.

As though oblivious to Lucivar's abrupt manner, Lestat replied in a cool voice, "I haven't seen her." This was a lie, of course. The quite pleasant girl had been in there earlier, but he saw no reason to tell Lucivar this.

Lucivar nods shortly. "Good. Stay away from her if you do see her. If anything happens to her..." He lets that hang. He doesn't trust this handsome stranger.

The words appeared to thoroughly insult him, and Lestat frowned and slowly moved his gaze up and down Lucivar, his eyebrows raised slightly. "Do you believe me to have ill intentions?" He smiled calmly, but it did not reach his eyes. "I don't see why. She is lovely company."

Lucivar's eyes remain trained on Lestat's, his mouth set in a line. "Yes," he says coolly. "I do. I don't trust you any farther than I can throw myself, and especially not with my sister and my Queen."

"She is gentle and courteous, and deserves nothing but civility. I would not treat her with anything less." Lestat considered Daemon, obviously still taken aback by the rudeness of his manner. "I apologize for any other impression I may have given." His voice was also decidedly cool, and he regarded Lucivar with slight doubt, as if he thought that he could be a threat to Jaenelle.

Lucivar's eyes narrow. "Fine," he says. "You can talk to her if she talks to you. But one whisper out of her - or Daemon, for that matter..." He shakes his head. "I don't like you, I'm afraid, and Jaenelle can trust too easily. If I disagree with her judgment, I won't always listen to her."
