While shopping for Francie’s birthday gift, I also picked up a few things for myself. A copy of Vanity Fair, and a copy of Mansfield Park, as well as Anne Rice’s new novel, Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt. I’m not terribly excited about the last one there, but I figure I should give it a shot at least.

I was very excited to read that you had picked up Mansfield Park. When you get around to reading it, let me know. We can compare notes. Vanity Fair was a bit of a slog for me, ultimately; but the folks who love it really love it.
I'm pretending that you didn't buy an Anne Rice novel. No -- shhh. It's best this way.

Anyway, we'll just keep that Anne Rice purchase a secret for now. It was an impulse purchase anyway. I don't even know that I'll ever read it.
So, I found this table at Barnes and Noble covered with the Barnes and Noble Classics series, which is where I found the other two novels. I think I'm going to try and get the rest of the series if I can, since they are so inexpensive, and yet still well made. That means I might have to resort to paperbacks at some point, but it's probably all for the best anyway.

I read the first eight pages of Anne Rice when it came in and promptly packed it away to give to my mother. Ever since Memnoch I've lost all interest.
