I Am Awesome!

Apr 25, 2009 19:39

I totally got four hours of sleep last night, and am as loony as Luna Lovegood on a full moon. Or something. O.o I don't even know. My emotions are running high, and I'm flipflopping a ton, so I decided that "stay in oblivious happiness" was a good state to be in until I finally crash. Sure, I could nap right now, but if I do I will only wake ( Read more... )

Hey if it makes you happy, who's to say it's wrong? Everyone has things they love or collect or whatnot. Personally? I've never liked dolls. They really creep me out. Always have. But that's just me. If it brings you a measure of happiness, don't feel bad at all about it.

::snugglebugs:: Thanks for the support lovely. I'm sorry the dolls creep you out, though. I know a couple girls like that. It can't be fun growing up when everyone expects you to like them. ::hugs::

Just never my thing. Now plush? I'm with you all the way on that. I LOVE stuffed animals and still have tons. *laughs* We're all odd in our ways! ;)

Yay, another plush addict! Our bed and bedroom floor is smothered with plushies. We have a "pile of love" in the corner just so we can walk around and such. XD And of course, we have a corner of Stitches...

I'm so torn about BJDs. Some of them are pretty, and some are just creepy. It's an expensive hobby, but now a days, what isn't? Whatever makes you happy, man.

Yea, some can be downright terrifying (hoojoos for example). But overall, I think as a type of doll, they're beautiful. Sure, there are ugly ones, but that's just because of people's tastes for the most part. The ugly ones are easy enough to avoid, and it's not like you ever have to buy one you don't like, you know? XD

I agree on the expensive hobby thing. Everything is insane these days. And really, if you get a doll and make all its clothes, it's not that expensive. Well, unless you're like me and keep buying "stuff". ::laughs::

::looooooooooooooooooooooves:: Thank you dearheart!

I wants a BJD. But they are way way beyond my price range at the moment so I'm stuck with the similar J-Dolls. Which reminds me, I still need to pick up a new body for Persephone.

Yay for you!!

Save up bit by bit, and they aren't that bad. I mean, honestly? Rhianna's wig was like $40, her eyes were like $15, and her clothes were about $45 (that's the last time I buy an outfit unless it's Japanese, I swear, because buying costumes are so expensive! And I can just make it myself)... so Rhianna only cost about what, $225? And I could be off on the numbers. I think she was just around 200-225. And there are smaller dolls, like the tinies, though I'm not really a fan. Some people go apeshyte for those tinies, though. <3

And I think some of the official Volks dolls, like the Who's That Girl? line are fairly reasonable, though not quite as customizable.

Similar J-Dolls? Persephone? Is that that doll line I asked you about a while back?

J-Dolls is another line by Jun Planning, the company that makes Pullips. They usually cost around $80.

Hmmmmmmm... What are they made of? They look like the material might be plastics similar to Barbies? They're obviously ball jointed. Strung, or just jointed? And can you change out their eyes, too? ::super curious::

About how large are they? They look like they might be fashion doll sized? At least if they are it'd be easy to get them clothes? They are very pretty.

Okay, so as long as we're talking about dolls and the "childishness" thereof ...

... I have 10 American Girl dolls. Also 18" tall. Also vaguely expensive (around $100 for each one). I got most of them when I was a child, but I've purchased four of them as an adult collector.

Now I SAY "collector." But let's be honest - I play with them. They are SO much flipping fun. Like you, they also inspire a creative streak - I've been crocheting hats and shrugs and jackets for them and fully plan on making each one her own blanket/quilt once I have a bedroom set up for them. They all have individual names and personalities that took me a long time to come up with (well, except for the Luna Lovegood doll). They have hobbies - some similar to mine and some very much not. They're FUN, dammit, and I'm a grownup and allowed to have fun however I want, so there.

This. So very this. XD I don't even rightly know how to respond, but basically what you said about your American Girls is exactly how I am with Rhianna. So it's all good.

Did you notice that the bath tub Rhianna has is an American Girl one? XD I still have the bathrobe and 'towel wrap' somewhere, if you want them. >.> They'd never fit an abjd. You probably already have it though.

Those pictures are amazing, and I love them! Especially the second! I'm trying to learn crochet and knitting for various reasons, and that's just spiffy. Where did you find those tiny crochet hooks? XD

O___O I don't get much doll furniture, so no, I don't have the robe or the towel. I'd be happy to pay you/swap you for it. <3

And the crochet hooks? I just clipped the ends off regular hooks and attached them to their hands using clear hair bands. :D

Okay, not so sure if you're interested anymore. It isn't an American Girl tub (though if the AG tub is the same size, and better quality, I need to look it up). It's actually that other thing that looks a hell of a lot like American Girls. Our Generation? Forgive the AG n00b her heinous crimes! XD

If you still want the robe/headwrap though, since they're supposed to fit, I'd be more than glad to send it your way. I really doubt it's worth all that much, and I wasn't going to have any use for it anyway. >.> Plus I have no clue what you would trade/swap me for it. XD

Here's a picture of what it's supposed to look like on the doll: link.

And the crochet hook idea is inspired. I'll have to look into doing that for Rhianna! Thanks!

I love love love that last shot of her! Thar outfit is beautiful, and she's posed perfectly with that adorable tea set!
One of my other friends has a dolfie. At my first anime convention (Otakon 2006), I was stuck to my friend like glue, so I went with her to a panel about Dolls. It was amazing. They are SO FREAKIN CUTE! But way out of my price range. If it was just the doll, it wouldn't be so bad. But then all the clothes are super expensive too! They cost more than I would ever spend on clothes for MYSELF! And I have no sewing knowledge. So even though I squeed over them, I knew there is no way I have that kind of money. Curse you, grad school and having to be an adult! I'd love to get one some day, but I don't know that will ever happen. ^^;
It's wonderful to hear about your love-at-first-sight moment. I LOVE moments like that, where you find something and just fall absolutely in love with it, have to have it, double guess yourself, and finally give in and get it. I'm really glad you were able to get her. :)

Yay, I'm glad everyone appreciates that picture so much! It was hard to set up, since the dress is far too big for her on the top. XD I have to take it in, for serious. And doesn't the tea set suit her well?

I've yet to go to a panel. I hope to when AWA or D*Con comes around (if the latter has one). The amount of things you can do in the hobby is fascinating.

Yea, not being able to sew makes things a bit more difficult. But sometimes clothes aren't that bad, and you don't have to change them often if you don't have many, so it can be more reasonable. I'm beginning to believe I seriously overpayed on that Haori/Yukata combination. It just wasn't worth what I paid.

Having to be an adult really sucks, doesn't it? XD You'll get one some day. If you go on the Den of Angels forums, and stick around faithfully, you can learn a lot... and eventually get access to the market forums, where people sell used dolls at slightly more reasonable prices. <3 ( ... )
