For the record, I'm not a big fan of the books either. I have to agree with the author of the VF article - it's really fare for the unjaded palette. Perhaps had I not read Dracula when I was the target age for the Smeyer series, I would be more disposed to like it more, but as it stands, it's too teeny bop for my tastes. The only reason I got through the entire series was because once I'd read the first two, I felt locked into the rest of the series.
Oh, the things I do for social interaction.

Ditto for me; this is vampire-lite fare. And I can't abide sparkles on my vampires unless for comedic purposes. But with the movie set in the deep, gloomy wet of the NW, it's going to feel so different from the book series.
I haven't read Breaking Down yet... the reason I even started was to satisfy a friend who thought I'd love it if I read it. It's funny the things we do for friends. ;)

That, and I have somehow managed to develop a mild crush on Robert Patterson in all his snarkiness towards his own role. So, uh, yeah. :/

OMG, I'm seeing the movie tonight at the theatre where most of the fervent fans are going. My friend bought me a ticket and I'm SEEING THE MOVIE TONIGHT.

... I have definitely unresolved issues with Edward, methinks.
Bella is typical Sueish female character for me, so she doesn't bother me too much. The only thing that does bother me is that she's so obviously written to allow female fans to dream through her of being with Edward and Jacob. It's like she has not other point and that kind of sucks.
