Vampire novels in the marketplace

Okay I'm going to make a completely public post because I need as much help as I can get.

Other than Twilight, can anyone tell me what other vampire-related novels they have read (title/series and author) currently in the marketplace and give me an uber short rundown on what they're about (ie. Is it set in a school? Is it about a mortal hooking up ( Read more... )

True Blood - You know what it's about.

Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine - (I love this series <3). Girl moves to small town for college, town is ruled by vampires with strict rules (blood donations for protection people wear a bracelet showing by who they're claimed, etc.). The series evolves into quite a different story though where the oldest most powerful vampires fight for Morganville and Claire has to help one side. Also great secondary storyline of guy who is ghost becomes vampire and the Glass Houses with portals around town and this mad professor type vampire who runs the town behind-the-scenes with crazy machinery. Oh and there's also a storyline of some of the vampires getting a disease which Claire has to find a cure for ( ... )

Doesn't "True Blood" go by the title "Sookie Stackhouse books"?

I have never read the books so I don't know. But Jules watches the TV-show so I figure she knows what I mean as well as the general storyline ;)

Yep, I think it was originally called the Southern Vampire series or something... but they now are known as the "Sookie Stackhouse" books. canadian_turtle knows me well enough to make VERY subtle references to stuff I already know about. ;)

I haven't really read many, so I'm not much help D: But maybe perusing the paranormal romance section of the bookstore could help?

DRACULA. lol. Not taking place in a school, obviously.

The Vampire Diairies, by LJ Smith. You know what that's about, too. I think the TV show has some notable differences with the book (such as, for instance, there is no Jeremy in the book series and Elena, who is blonde, has a 4-y-o sister).

My own FAVORITE FAVORITE though, was YOU SUCK! A Love Story by Christopher Moore. There's more books in the series, but that's the only one I've read. I really loved that a) it was jam-packed with humor, b) it was told from a male POV which is a nice change, and c) it took place in San Francisco ♥

The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. The best, and really - for me - the only vampire series there is.

Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole. More adult and smut than most but not all about vamps. There's valkyrie, lykae, demons, witches, etc. It's more about relationships and a great up and coming battle.

Let The Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist. The only book (other than a few of Anne Rice's) that concentrates on human/vampire friendship over romance. Surprisingly also one of the darker books.

And of course Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I don't know I really hate the way the market has changed. For me vampires will always be like Anne Rice's.

Fangland by John Marks which is a reimagined version of Dracula set in part at a news studio in post 9/11 New York

The Joe Pitt Casebook Novels by Charlie Huston, a series of books set in modern day new york but with the main character as a Vampire Private Invesigtator. Written in the style of noir crime books of the 1930s.

Let The Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist, Young boy in Sweden befriends young girl who happens to be a vampire. Definitely not Twilight, pretty dark and messed up.

The Vampire Tapestry by Suzy McKee Charnas, I'm currently reading this, its several stories about the same vampire Dr. Edward Weyland isn't your typical hot vampire seducing the ladies, but he does find himself mixed up with several different humans along the way.

I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. The book is way better than the movie. Best summed up as Vampire Zombies!
