What's this for? Those of you in New Zealand are probably familiar with the New World Supermarket advertising on telly - where you can hear what the people are thinking as they shop? Well, yesterday I decided I'd spent enough time deliberately curbing my excesses by using a shopping list, so decided to go without for my weekly grocery shopping. I ( Read more... )

Oh, I just adore feijoas. And tamarillos ... I think I just like autumn fruit :)

That's weird - I never had a problem finding yoghurt without gelatin in it (even Pak 'N Poopy), but then again I always eat the non sweetened unflavoured stuff and add my own fruit into it.

It's neat to look around supermarkets at all the different foods sometimes. :) Foodtown Dominion Rd and Greenlane are good for miso, and I'd also suggest trying the big Chinese supermarkets when looking for Japanese type stuff - they often have a Japanese section. At least, the two near us do.

Non-sweetened yoghurt .... ewwwww.

I miss shopping at Foodtown Greenlane. The one out at the airport is excellent (and nice and new, and 24 hours), but it's more expensive that Pak N Save - so I try not to spend too much of my paycheck there.

There's a Chinese supermarket in Mt Albert - I'll have to check it out. Also, The Tofu Shop.

Ah yes, the Tofu Shop had a nice little selection of Japanese foods last time I was there. Then again, that was close to a year ago.

Yay vegetarian yoghurt! Not that I'm that fussy myself. I'm trying to cut down on dairy, so I don't eat much yoghurt at the moment, but when I do it's easier not to look at labels and assume that if it doesn't have visible pieces of corpse in it then it's probably vegetarian.

Heheh - I tend to be like that with most things, but yoghurt seems to be bug-bear with me. Dairy food is nice enough, but it's not yoghurt, you know? It's been nice being able to eat it again, and this Walnut stuff is divine :)

*Thank* you! I've been trying to figure out what on earth persimmons are; they're sharon fruit! You've quite honestly solved one of my mental crises in my life. You rock :)

And, yes. Sympathies on the vegetarian thing. I have the same problem, having been a strict vegetarian for several years now. What bugs me, is when the ingredients are really, really vague. 'Gelling agent'. WTF?

Ooh, and, main reason for my warbling - I checked with always_winter, and she's all up for sharing out the icons! Whee! I thought she would be, but I always check first. Piechart for you, luv!

And now I know what Sharon Fruit are - you are a godsend :) Nice to see another vegetarian around. Allow me to highly recommend the 'Butter Chickpeas' I made last night, thanks to a recipe from confuzzledoifo. It's like Butter Chicken except without the chicken. Want the recipe?

Ooh! I get to use the icon *bounces* Thank you, and thank always_winter!

The house I grew up in has a persimmon tree in the backyard. Mmmm...persimmons.

Also, the Bush slash link is hilarious! I have a hard time believing Cheney could be a Buffy fan though! :)

I've never seen a persimmon tree - that's very cool. Glad you liked the link!
