Fresh Smoked Tuna

Apr 19, 2006 12:35

I've just purchased a large fresh tuna, freshly smoked (yay for fisheries people visiting workplaces with chilled vans!). Any recommendations as to what I should cook with it for dinner tonight? I've been recipe hunting, but nothing's struck my fancy yet.

All suggestions will be considered, at least until I run out of fish!

Well, I didn't get home until 8pm, so we had it cold with spiral pasta, garden sauce, and lemon brussells sprouts. It was excellent.

For some incredibly odd reason all that pops to mind is waffles.
I wonder where I'm getting this idea...

Tuna waffles?

*grin* Gee, I wonder. Tuna waffles would be kind of odd. Tuna melts, on the other hand ...

We did something relatively similar this evening. We had it cold with spiral pasta, garden sauce, and lemon brussells sprouts. It was most excellent, and we still have 3/4 of the tuna left for tomorrow.

I like making up a batch of pasta, mixing in shredded fresh fish, and putting a white sauce over it.

I include any vegetables I have handy like baby peas, asparagus, finely chopped celery etc.

Then I top it with grated cheese and breadcrumbs and bake it till it's all bubbly.

I tend to use either the spiral pasta, or the ones that look like big macaroni but they're green and red.

Either that or make up an old fashioned fish pie with mashed potato, cheese, sliced boiled egg, and veges. Mmmmmmmmmm

Oooh - that sounds delicious! Might do that tomorrow.

Tonight we had it cold with spiral pasta, garden sauce, and lemon brussells sprouts. It was excellent!

You make your fish pie different to me! I do mine with onion and celery, white sauce, fish (natch), boiled egg, and topped with breadcrumbs or crushed salt & vinegar chippies. That's what I'll do with the majority of it.
