x-posted, because I am desperate to find someone else to talk to about this book.  From my limited knowledge of the cultures in question, this looks to be a successful case of "writing the other," and I am extremely interested to hear what folks who are more knowledgeable than I have to say about it.

It's been a few months since I read it, so I do not have great insights to add, but I did like it! Though I did not find it as unputdownable as you did. Great worldbuilding (obviously) but I thought it maybe could have used more plot. I'll be picking up the second one, though.

I can't wait for the second one, I but I'm scared of her dropping the ball on the race thing. Or the worldbuilding. Or any of the other balls she's juggling on this.

I had no idea I'd been wanting quite this, but now I do! It is the mashiest mash-up I've come across in quite some time.

Whoa, that sounds really great! I read her Crossroads books a while back (the first one is called The Spirit Gate), and they were excellent, but broke my heart, so I was kind of scared to read anything else by her. Actually, those books also mostly involved people who would be considered POC in our world.

I started those, but I can't recall now why I didn't finish them.
