I love your rants but honestly I think the part about "all the Natives having long hair" was a nitpick. My father (Ojibwa) has long hair, my first boyfriend (Oneida) has long hair, his boss (Bill Miller, also Oneida if I'm correct) has long hair, just about every Indian you met at Pow Wows have long hair. Me and my sister both have long hair. I don't think it's a stereotype, I think it's a preferred style.
But if you want to complain about the Native characters anyways, I'd complain mostly about how all the boys on the beach are either Mexican or Filipino and the guy in the wheelchair is the only Native in the film. But that's just me.

I would consider it more of a stereotype if the Native characters showed up to the beach drunk out of their mind, or having massive depression to the point of being suicidal, and hating every single white kid they saw. Long hair? Not so much of a stereotype.

Haha, you're probably right about that, but I thought it was funny to me mostly because a Metis friend of mine saw Twilight with two of her brothers, and they were all laughing their asses off because they thought it was ridiculous.
I didn't know all the other Native kids weren't actually Native, I knew Taylor whatshisname isn't (or is he part Native? I'm not sure), but that's pretty dumb (its like how all the lead actresses in Memoirs of a Geisha were Chinese and Malaysian instead of Japanese). It just kind of struck me as odd at the time, because I did grow up knowing a few Metis and Iroquois kids in high school and they all saw long hair on a man as a sort of stereotypical thing

Well you know, at least in the Memoirs of a Geisha, acting was required for the parts that were played by the Chinese actresses, and I think they all played the parts very well regardless of what race they were. But the Native kids with Jacob had like, no dialogue. I don't see why the guys who made this movie went out looking for Asian and Mexican actors to play Native American characters when no acting was required for those parts and they could have easy found someone off the reservation. Heard that the new director at least had enough sense to look for Native actors/models for the new movie. Guess that shows some kind of effort.
Yes, the Native Americas are forbidden to talk about things like that with Bella. Social scientists call it “sacred knowledge, local knowledge, or indigenous knowledge.” But I like that Jacob doesn’t give it all up, so it’s not quite as offensive and plus it actually gives Bella a reason to go to Port Angeles, to get the book with the rest of the information. I think the movie improved on the book. But it’s not like that was hard to do, looking at the awfulness that is the book. “You’re a strong confident woman.” That’s such crap, coming for Bella. And you’re right she really doesn’t sound like she gives a damn about any of them. But as we know from the books, she really, truly doesn’t. OMG WE TOUCHED SLIGHTLY BY ACCIDENT HOW AWKWARD BUT ODDLY ROMANTIC. I wonder how many romance movies they stole this concept from. And romance anime, or fuck with any pairing in an anime, even if it’s not a romance series.
