The reason that no one is talking to me about Mom's health care is that they deemed Mom competent to handle her own health care and they're talking to her! I left a message for her doctor to call me, but I don't know if he will given that I'm not a primary contact for her health care.

Yes, I do. But power of attorney kicks in only when Mom is incapacitated. Otherwise, they'll deal with her.

Even though this is true, it may be feasible for your mom to sign something indicating she is entrusting you with all of her health information and you are to be informed at the same time she is given diagnoses, instructions for testing, etc.
I'm sorry. This is hard stuff. You're doing all you can and, even though she may not always show it, I'm sure your mom is grateful for all you do.

She talked to the social worker and said that she wanted me involved, and now they're calling me with updates. So yay.
