I wonder if you have looked into Roads scholar trips? A non-profit group.

I have been looking into them again and the prices seem good. Years ago, I went on an art workshop once and there was a really nice group of Road scholar people on a trip in the same hotel where I was. I talked to a few of them at meals and it seems like a nice way to travel alone.

You might look at Intrepid Travel for Costa Rica trips. I've traveled with them a couple of times (once in Vietnam and once in El Salvador). They tend to be less inclusive than some other companies, which I consider a plus, as I like to have more time on my own,
but your leaders will help you arrange activities that aren't included.
