I hate my life right now

Feb 18, 2008 19:59

Any normal self respecting parent would start saving up money for the college of his eldest and second eldest. I have proved my worth in almost every field of life. I got into the best high school in town after a whole year of not eating and sleeping on the brink of exhaustion. I sacrificed my social life to learn English so high that I basically ( Read more... )

::hugs:: I'm sorry you've been let down by your family. Nothing hurts more than that does. It is the worst kind of betrayal.

Until yesterday I had no idea that English wasn't your native language. You write exceptionally well. You probably make less mistakes that I do - that's for sure.

::hugs again::

It's a bit tough. I didn't expect that reply from him in the end, even though I knew there would be complications. But I can't let this slow me down. I will figure things out, well I have to do that, but in the end I am glad that this post served as therapy and now I am moving forward. Thanks for the support.

Trust me on the mistake front there is still a lot to polish, but I am working on it constantly! :)

Wow, you did a lot and the things you did are totally awesome. I could never do some of those things. I'm having enough of a hard time learning Spanish.

And just a thought: maybe it's a good thing that you're not going to study abroad just yet. I mean, the first two years of college are just, what I call, the garbage courses anyway. You know, math, science, all those. You have to take those. This way, if you stay and go to a college close to home, you can work and earn money and save enough to go abroad after you're done with the garbage courses and take some real classes, ones that you really love. 'Cause let's face it. No sense in going abroad and wasting so much money just to take the same type of classes that you took in high school. (And I would say go for the grants and/or maybe university scholarships. Those seems to be the best ones.) Hopefully all of this helps you. Don't worry, things will all work out.

Thank you for this awesome! This really makes me feel a lot better and it's an interesting development. I will definitely develop this as a strategy and I think it can work out a bit better. Thank you for the support. In the end this may be how things will happen.

I'm sorry to hear this. Everyone deserves to have the best education they can, no matter the cost. *hugs*

Does the university your Dad want you to go to do exchange programs? Is there anyway you can contact the university you want and prove you deserve a scholarship?

And your English is excellent! It's better than the majority of my friends and it's their ONLY language. :-D I'd never have guessed it wasn't your first language.

Thanks a lot Skarrah. I bet I can find a way to make the situation better, but still in one day that was a major shock.

Scholarships sadly are out of the opton, because Denmark has no tuition fees, but living standard is very high. And Holland has a no scholarships policies, because the government gives bonuses a month if students find a job. It's messy.

Thank you for the compliment. I really worked my butt off to be where I am with the language.

There isn't much one can say about your father's reaction that doesn't involve the words 'that sucks.'

Any normal self respecting parent would start saving up money for the college of his eldest and second eldest.

First off, could he have _afforded to_? I don't know your situation, but not everybody *can* pay for college - much less abroad. And the second is that I feel strongly that _all_ children ought to have the chance to go to college if they want to - which, depending on how many siblings you might have, makes it an awful lot more expensive - and which might be a reason why it's easier for him to say 'we can't afford it for any of our children'.

I did everything on the god damn list to show that I deserve a better education and realization.

And if you hadn't done those things, you would *still* deserve a better education. I'm deeply impressed by your motivation and drive, but they should be ends in themselves.

What might have thrown you a bit is that the universities are often organised in faculties - so a philosophical faculty might have geography, economics, languages, and whathaveyou - that doesn't mean that the courses are philosophy or engineering based - you *really* need to look at the curriculum ( ... )
