How do you pick a weapon? I mean... how do you know what suits you best? Do you try them until you figure it out, or do you let someone pick for you? And what if you-

[Hi Simon, guess who's passing by today? Anise is still on Tokunaga, looking for Ion, but she decides to take a break and pass by Simon's place for now.]

Simon? What're you doing out in the cold?

[You're going to make yourself sick, being out in the cold so much :| She catches him off guard, though, so he jumps, quickly clenching his hands into fists and hiding them, embarrassed by whatever he was trying to do.]

Oh, um... I was just thinking, that's all.

[What was he trying to do? Anise peers closer, since she definitely saw him hiding his hands away.]

Ohh? Out here? And what'cha got there? [is it a present]

[dawndigger]

Ah... [Now he's even more embarrassed, drawing his hands back in front of himself- after a quick check to make sure there's nothing there.] N-nothing... doing worry about it.

Fight? [A weapon?] You shouldn't fight! Rem says violence should never be the answer! She says it's better to talk it out!

[Voice]

I don't want to fight, but... sometimes you have to. If someone attacks you, you have to fight back, or you'll die...

You could run away. Or talk to them. Maybe they're just scared and think you mean to hurt them?

...I'm too small to be scaring people. [Especially the Third Party, or Beastmen who ride in giant robots.] And talking isn't any good if they don't even give you a chance.

What have you tried so far?

I started using toy swords when I was a kid, so that gave me a bit of an edge. Guess what you could do is find someone to teach you, maybe experiment and see what works best.

Well, I have a teacher. And he's really good, so I don't want to let him down... I just don't know how to be sure if a sword is right for me.

Just about any weapon takes practice. It might seem awkward at first, but I figure anyone can learn.

[Though, if he's not sure about swords...]

Anyway, which do you feel more comfortable with? Close or ranged fighting?

Um... well, I've kind of done both, but... it's not really like normal fighting.

I chose a jitte because it's an added advantage against swords and it's easier to incapacitate someone with it without killing or severely injuring them.

[dawndigger]

A jitte? What's that? [It does sound handy.]

A metal pike with a tine. Most people think the tine is for catching swords; but that's more so the case with jutte (smaller version of jittes) it's mostly to catch vital organs and poke them, or catch someone under the arm and hold them down.

[dawndigger]

[He's not entirely sure what the "tine" is either, but he'll feel pretty foolish for asking twice.]

That sounds really useful... do a lot of people use swords where you're from?
