I have Solti's recording of the Ring Cycle too, and it's SO SO SO GOOD!! SUCH a cast! And it's hard to beat Vienna playing Wagner! <3 You got a spectacular deal on it!

(Apologies that I "liked" this post reflexively, but I removed the "like" because I belatedly remembered you don't like "likes." Sorry about that! I'll try to avoid doing it in the future!)

LOL!! I never noticed it.

Yeah, I could not believe the price for the absolutely wonderful condition of the box set. One of the best finds from a charity shop.

Essentially you've not only gotten the GREATEST bargain of the month (if not the year), you've gotten the background music for the next week and a half! I hope you have a multi-disc player so you can play several CDs in a row without having to get up and change discs every 72 min & 22 secs.

I have a promotional CD on the SEE FOR MILES record label from the early 90s which claimed that was the maximum length of recorded space on a compact disc.
[No Idea if technology has upgraded the storage capacity.)

Usually, the Oxfam charity shop outlets are pretty savvy on pricing but they sure missed the curveball on this one find in my home town of Faversham.

Yes, I see what you mean with the Cheeto v Biden clash.

The complete cycle of four operas lasts 17 hours FYI and I have a single disc player rather than a multi-disc CD player. The longest physical length of a CD is 79 mins. I do have a few discs that reach that mark. Act III of Gotterdammerung is 77.50 mins long.

There is a standard story about the history of the compact disc that says that it became a 74-minute medium because the then-president of Sony wanted to be able to hear all of Beethoven's 9th symphony without interruption.
Yes it has crept up to 79 minutes.
