Extinction rates above appropriate evolutionary significant time frames result in serious ecosystem damage, and the food web will not just fix itself. The balance of predator/prey is far more complex than we ever imagined, and there is no way to predict the effect of losing a species.

Hmmm...

Food shortages and furthering the economic crises in California's agricultural belt and manadatory water rationing in Southern California

vs.

The "possible" endangerment of a fish species who's position in the global ecosystem is indeterminate.

...I say fry the fish and deliver the water.

I think we should totally consider that.

Right after we reduce our private water use by nearly 60% by deciding we don't actually need grass lawns and using more appropriate landscaping...

I'm doing my part by not watering my front or back yards! (That is slacktivism at its finest, I believe.)

It's a federal regulation from the Dept. of Fish & Wildlife that is FORCING California to cut the water supplies to Agriculture and San Diego.

The Governator has lost his juevos to stand up to the Feds for the sake of California and caved on this issue.

...for a stupid fish.

I'm surprised you're still living in California. I'm assuming it's only because your very awesome job is in California, but really, if they'd ever let you telecommute, you should consider moving. After having seen how (awesome) other states are, I'm surprised I ever survived as long as I did in California without going completely batty. The cheaper cost of living in most of the other states is reason enough by itself to move.

  • The cheaper cost of living in most of the other states is reason enough by itself to move.

  • No kidding. I was once offered a position out there in the San Francisco area after my then-current employer here in Texas went under (due mostly to some truly spectacular mismanagement and boneheadedness)... and I had to turn it down when I discovered that, due to the insane cost of living out there, I was better off on unemployment in Texas than with a job in California!

    That's just messed up.

Oh, they might be CONSTRUCTED in 7-8 years, but that's when the enviro-loons will find some way to file a thousand lawsuits to shut them down.

Let's see, the water (Which will be expensive) will allow people to water their lawns, which means more fertilizer and pesticides in the runoff and oooh noooo! The Fish is STILL in danger!

That's where Obamaflation will tax the hell out of the already expensive water, to go along with the energy taxes that made the water expensive to begin with.

    Is it 1/20/2013 yet?

I would SO want to get a 1/20/13 bumper sticker, except around here it would get my car keyed to the point of having no paint left.

A few years ago, I had my "Don't be a girly-man" bumper sticker for Arnold's gubernatorial race scratched off of my van 2 times.

Fortunately, they had a bargain on ordering a 5-pack and I'd only given 1 of those away.

Arnold's been acting like a girly-man the last 2 years, but it seems he finally got the message when we the people voted out all the tax-increases this last special election. Our state budget is due again today, and he's sworn to veto any budget that raises taxes or fees at all.

Of course, Our state budget hasn't been completed on time for over two decades now. Tomorrow, the State starts paying contracters with IOU vouchers instead of checks.
