A number of years ago, work sent me to Boston for the M Technology Association conference there, and I picked one day that had no presentations I was interested in and went off sightseeing. Bunker Hill, Faneuil Hall, the USS Constitution, Old North Church, etc., and had dinner at Durgin-Park, a restaurant in Faneuil Square that had been there for more than 150 years.
It was somewhat depressing to see the midshipman standing gangplank duty aboard the Constitution being surprised by my stopping at the top of the gangplank, taking my hat off, facing the stern, and then asking for permission to come aboard (the only one of the group I was in to do so). Apparently etiquette for boarding a commissioned US warship has fallen out of common knowledge.

Right.
I'll blame sleep deprivation for the reason I was so gullible.
