August 15 - Slytherin Dungeons

Terence watched closely as she stirred the potion; one turn clockwise and three turns counterclockwise with a two-second pause in between. She'd done well, seemed to understand the concepts, but lacked confidence. He saw that a lot in her. He wasn't too surprised ( Read more... )

Ginny kept her eyes on the potion, counting under her breath until the potion turned the pale purple that the book described. She grinned. "Yeah, well, you were standing here holding my hand the whole way. Not like I have you in class to instruct me." She was rather proud of herself, though. "And, of course, we have no idea if it will really work."

Terence raised an eyebrow. "Of course it will work. You did a perfect job. I don't think that it needs to be questioned. But I will take part of it with me. It will keep for a few months unless your brother uses it up." It was a fairly potent painkiller… Charlie was quite a bit rougher than he'd ever been. He'd keep it on hand for him if for nothing else. "We'll let it cool for a moment. You should practice more. That's all that you are lacking."

Ginny shook her head. "I don't know, I don't think I'll ever be great at it." She took her utensils over to the sink and washed them off before coming back to Terence and hefting herself up onto the worktable as they waited. She'd been careful not to get too close to Terence. He seemed to stiffen up whenever she did. She hated that she made him uncomfortable now. "Thank you. For this. You didn't have to, you know?"

Terence patted her knee briefly and leaned against the table as well. "It was my pleasure. Next time I'll bring Charlie. It wouldn't hurt him to brush up on his potions as well. Of course, he's not as good of a student as you. Much more stubborn." He had almost brought him today… but things seemed to go badly when the three of them were in the same room. He'd just have to be careful for a while.

The creak of the door drew him from his thoughts and he looked toward the doorway.

"Which is what we are trying to avoid," Terence said, looking pointedly at her. "And none of them will ever be disappointed in you." He grinned at Theo. "The twins wreaked havoc when I was here, and they were fairly young. I can only imagine what they are capable of now. I had the opportunity to tour their shop recently. It is amazing. I think they have a natural talent for potions. Ginny is better with her wand, but with a bit of practice she'll be fantastic at potions as well." He glanced at her and smirked. "You simply don't like them. Not to worry, most people don't."

"George and Fred are amazing. But all of my brothers are really talented. And no, I don't like them. I find it tedious. And I get distracted and make careless errors." She grinned at him. "I will attempt not to blow myself up anymore." She looked at Nott for a moment, wondering if he knew how much Hermione liked him. Wondering if he liked her back. He was very nice looking... she caught herself staring and looked away, hoping her hair hid he blush. "You should go by the shop sometime, Nott," she said, hoping to distract.

Theo looked at their clasped hands. He couldn't quite get a grip on the dynamic. It intrigued him. "You blew yourself up?" he asked, turning his attention to Ginevra. "How on earth did you do that? I have been meaning to go to the shop at some point. I hear they have some very useful things." He knew that Draco had gotten the Darkness Powder from the twins' shop. Theodore had never been one for jokes, but it might be amusing to take a gander at the place.

"I was tired. And we were doing a hair growth potion. I added something out of order at the end and the cauldron exploded. So I didn't really blow myself up... just a few burns and cuts. It was stupid." She shrugged and offered him a smile. "The shop really is great. They're doing more than just jokes now. They've started working on medical potions, pain killers and such. They're wonderful. And they have a huge line of curse protecive clothing. The ministry's been buying from them, even."

There were other reasons the children might need a pain potion, but nothing he wanted to bring up in front of Ginny. It would do nothing but upset her. "Yes," he said quietly, "It has been a while." He gave a half smile. "Well. There is an excess if you decide to take some of it... for whatever reason."

"Spitfire. Sometimes Angel. Sometimes half pint. Occassionally bitch. Once in a while prat." She grinned as Terence cringed at the word bitch. "Like you never use the word." She reached for a different brush and scrubbed the lip of the cauldron.

Theodore would never have dreamed of calling one of his relatives a bitch. Of course he'd have been greviously injured if he had. He flicked his wand at the cauldron, leaving it sparkling. "Snape is not around, Ms. Weasley. There is no reason for you to do that by hand."

"Ah but magic can sometimes leave residue... And it can sometimes leave it's signature. Some potions are very fragile. He insisted on scrubbing the cauldrons to prevent those rare accidents." He smiled at Ginny. "No one calls you that. And I do not use the word often, and certainly not in front of you."

Ginny was sitting back up on the worktable, fidgeting. "Everything all right?" she asked, searching both of their faces as they came out of the potions cupboard.

"Of course, Princess, nothing to worry about. We were simply choosing ingredients for his project." He moved toward her and smiled softly at her. "You worry too much." He looked back at Nott. "What are you going to attempt first?"

"All is indeed well. I thought I'd just throw a bunch of things into a cauldron and then feed whatever turns out to some first years." He was, of course, kidding.

Ginny covered her mouth with her hand and giggled. "You have to pay them in product if it turns out to be something cool," she said, still giggling. She smiled at Terence. "I know I worry too much. Charlie tells me all the time."

"I don't think that most people can tell them apart. But I think they are probably different around family than they are around others. Well, except for the explosions. That apparently happend within the family if what Charlie says is true." He kept a close eye on Nott's potion. "I've not been to the South Pacific in years."

"I can imagine that blowing up one's siblings might be distracting." Theo finished chopping the root, picked up his stirring rod and began stirring counter-clockwise while he dropped the bits in one at a time. "When were you last there?"

"When I was eighteen. Right before I started at the Ministry. I spent a week in Fiji. I love the warmer weather, the sand, the salt. I simply do not get much time to travel where I would like. I took a bit of time to go to, as you know, Nice, recently. Brings back memories."

"How about you, Weasley? Ever been to the South Pacific?" He changed the direction of his stirring and the potion instantly turned orange. "Why does Nice bring back memories?"
