August 15 - Slytherin Dungeons

Terence watched closely as she stirred the potion; one turn clockwise and three turns counterclockwise with a two-second pause in between. She'd done well, seemed to understand the concepts, but lacked confidence. He saw that a lot in her. He wasn't too surprised ( Read more... )

"I don't think that most people can tell them apart. But I think they are probably different around family than they are around others. Well, except for the explosions. That apparently happend within the family if what Charlie says is true." He kept a close eye on Nott's potion. "I've not been to the South Pacific in years."

"I can imagine that blowing up one's siblings might be distracting." Theo finished chopping the root, picked up his stirring rod and began stirring counter-clockwise while he dropped the bits in one at a time. "When were you last there?"

"When I was eighteen. Right before I started at the Ministry. I spent a week in Fiji. I love the warmer weather, the sand, the salt. I simply do not get much time to travel where I would like. I took a bit of time to go to, as you know, Nice, recently. Brings back memories."

"How about you, Weasley? Ever been to the South Pacific?" He changed the direction of his stirring and the potion instantly turned orange. "Why does Nice bring back memories?"

"I've never been anywhere," she said. "I visited Bill in Egypt once and he took me back one day after Fred got hurt. And I go to Romania sometimes with Charlie. That's it, and both of those only occured in the last bit."

"We traveled to Nice when I was younger. My family are partial owners of a villa there. It was nice to go back. It was nice to lay in the sun. It has been too long."

"I've never been to Egypt so you've got one up on me." Theo added a pinch of powdered scales, stepping back at the expected reaction. "Nice is nice."

"It is," Terence said, sliding Ginny down the worktable to his other side, watchful of the potion. "I get to travel with the Ministry occasionally, but it's work, the entire time. I'm generally too tired to sightsee. It's no where near being able to go and have a good time."

"Think I going to blow her up?"

"No. I think that you are competent with potions. I've been watching and you're not mixing anything that are volitale together. But I also know that you are experimenting and that anything is possible, no matter how competent you are. I meant no disrespect. But I must return her in one piece or I will have a pack of Weasleys out for my blood."

Ginny laughed. "They'd thank you for the favor," she said, grinning. "I can be a pain in the arse." She watched Nott as he worked. "So... what are you hoping to make?"

Theo honestly had only the vaguest idea of what he was making. He'd had several thoughts and grabbed ingredients that could be used in potions as far ranging as invisibilty and mind control. That was not something he wanted to admit out loud, however. He had an idea about making a potion that would make the drinker forgettable, something like obliviate but not.

He smiled rakishly at her, "Now that would be telling. Have you seen many of these ingredients? Can you guess?" If she wasn't up to the task - which, given the fact that he had no idea what he was doing would be totally fair - he figured it might be possible that Terence could unwittingly give him a clue.

Ginny shook her head. "I've seen some of the ingredients... a sleep potion of some sort?" She thought she'd seen a few of the ingredients in the twin's workroom and they had been working on a potion for her to sleep. She wasn't sure at all though, it was a stab in the dark.

Terence cataloged the ingredients in his mind. "Well, I think that that combination will effect the mind in some way... mind control perhaps? Not necessarily sleep, though." He glanced at Theo. "The right combination and you would have a powerful potion on your hands."

"All down to getting the right combination." Unfortunately, he was no genius at potions. His marks were always high, but only because he studied very hard. It would not have done to bring home poor marks. He was, frankly, barely adequate at creation. There was more to his starting nearly a year early than dedication. "Most truly useful things are powerful," he said, a phrase that could mean nearly anything...or nothing.

"Yes. Just be careful... a few of those if added in the wrong order could hurt you. Not that I needed to tell you that. You seem to have a head for potions." He smiled at the younger man. "If you decide you need any help, or if there's anything you need, let me know, all right?"
