Shuuji (actor: Kame, of KAT-TUN) is that popular, easygoing guy in class, you know the one, naturally likable and everyone's friend. Except Shuuji is exceedingly pretty, oh god, so pretty A DIRTY DIRTY LIAR: friendly, helpful "Shuuji-kun" is just a role he's perfected to have a carefree school life, and in actuality he's playing all of his classmates, thinking of life as a game. (See: the "I am crushing your heads" screencap.)
Yeah, he's kind of a dick to start with.
But did I mention -- pretty.
Akira (actor: Yamapi, of NEWS) is the bastard lovechild of Shuuichi Shindou and a stoned Jack Sparrow. Walks to the beat of his own drum, Akira, except it's not so much "walk" as it's "stumblingly flail, happy as a jaybird." His laugh is high-pitched and weird, he talks in a giggly drawl (no, seriously, if you think that's a contradiction, just watch the show), and his signature move? Is a hand gesture with sound effects that don't make sense in any language.
He's the most awesome character ever, and I would do him six ways to Sunday. *_____*
Nobuta (actress: Horikita Maki ♥ ♥ ♥) is girl with absolutely no self-confidence at all. She's silent, isolated, and horribly picked on; she won't -- can't -- stand up for herself when she's bullied. The world's beaten her down so much she can't even smile properly.
Nobuta. :(( I'll be your friend. :((
SO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU THROW THE THREE OF THEM TOGETHER?
what, you mean gay schoolboys aren't the plot?
In secret, Shuuji and Akira decide to "produce" Nobuta, ie make her over, make her popular, so she won't be picked on anymore.
But if things were supposed to easy, well, we wouldn't have a drama -- some bullies won't go quietly, some popularity schemes have unforeseen consequences (dun dun dun!), and then we've got your usual stuff, y'know, fighting and falling in love and evil schoolgirls and vice-principals who laugh like crows and flip off roofs.
And what's more... the faker, the weirdo, and the outcast are becoming friends.
