Nate Serizawa had been on shift for about thirteen hours and was just now being released. As the latest detective on the force, he was resigned to handle the messy and unwanted cases - the tripped out suspects, the domestic disputes that ended in violent, bloody ways, and the extremely mundane and boring. It was work he expected, although he could ( Read more... )

It hadn't been the most interesting of days. Frustrating might be a better word. One of those days where everything you need is halfway across the city. In this case, a couple of reference books from the library. He had to fetch them, considering everyone was absorbed in their own tasks and he already had a coworker getting something for him. Then again, the library might not even have the bloody thing. In which case, he would probably take a detour and indulge in something from a coffee store.

But Nathan wasn't so completely absorbed in his own thoughts that he didn't notice the man ahead pause. Of course, it didn't strike him as too odd until he managed to come up beside him.

"Um? Excuse me?" He felt a little awkward at getting the attention of a stranger. "Are you alright?"

Nate straightened, removing the hand he had so automatically pressed to his side. It was just heartburn, he tried to remind himself. It wasn't as if he was bleeding.

"It's been a long day," he explained, offering the other a tired smile (though still wary, it was always best to be careful). "I was hoping a trip to the library would make it better."

He straightened, and though it might look as if he was relaxing, it was more that he was putting back that distance between strangers. But he still smiled. "Well, I hope it helps you relax."

Suddenly, a Shiori.

She strides through the door, tossing a farewell in Greg's direction. Turning back around and continuing on down the steps, she doesn't notice Nate until she's done fixing her gloves. Her face brightens immeasurably when she sees him and she rushes over.

"Nate!" As she draws near, she slows her pace, the smile turning upside down. "Oh...do you need to sit down?"

He smiled at her, trying to look as carefree as possible. "Just the hearburn again. The doctors said it would get better with time."

That said, he really did look like he needed to sit down.

Shiori frowns some more, laying a gentle hand on one of Nate's arms. As she begins moving, her arm moves, wraping itself around Nate's arm in her way. Oh yes, she's definitely maneuvering them towards that bench over there.

"How was work? It wasn't bothering you all day, was it?"

Nate resigned himself to being benched and wrapped a hand around one of her arms, a soft pull to invite her to sit next to him.

"No, just once or twice," he replied. "It should go away, don't worry. How was your day?"
