Nate Serizawa had been on shift for about thirteen hours and was just now being released. As the latest detective on the force, he was resigned to handle the messy and unwanted cases - the tripped out suspects, the domestic disputes that ended in violent, bloody ways, and the extremely mundane and boring. It was work he expected, although he could hardly say he enjoyed it. The sooner he toughed out the newbie period, the sooner he'd get the real cases.

He should have been prepared for it, but for some reason he felt drained, moreso than from a usual long shift. Halfway through the day, while covering the domestic dispute case, his stomach had began to throb again. The doctors, he recalled, had assured him it was nothing, but the oddness of the pain nagged in the back of his head. It certainly didn't feel like the heartburn they claimed it was.

Whatever the reason, the pain was gone now, and he was on his way to pick up his wife from the library. A nice, relaxing evening with Shiori would end the day on a much higher note. His abdomen tinged again, causing him to pause on the library's steps. There it was again.
