The city looks unwell with buildings decaying and all the people asleep or in hiding. This is not John's city anymore but it isn't the Strangers' city, either

As soon as they get out into the City, Mel flicks the lightsaber on. She grins darkly when it makes that lovely noise. Mel looks around, eyes sharp and aware.

She also has one of the wands of daylight in the hand that doesn't have the lightsaber.

Sarah's holding onto a hunting knife, sticking by Daniel's side like glue. It isn't like before, when she stepped out of her house, running on fear and instinct. She knows what will be coming this time, and that makes it worse in some ways.

[call_me_rat]

Rat still has the knife Mel gave him, and his guitar slung over his back. The guitar isn't useful for much except possibly as a light shield, but he's reluctant to be parted from it. He lets the others take the lead, although his longer legs mean he is forced to shorten his usual stride. He can see whatever's coming over their heads anyway.
Wow, that light-sword thing is really weird. Neat, but weird. If they get out of this alive, he thinks he's got some questions to ask Mel.

The Strangers seem to object very strongly to the lightsaber. Charlotte, however, is utterly indifferent. She looks mildly offended by Schreber scowling at her, however. The Docter never scowls at her. He gives worried frowns, but he never scowls.

Suddenly she stops. "They are coming. Three, from the east." She gestures with a small hand. "They will be most interested in myself. If you wish, you may move into the alleyways and surprise them when they attack me."
