TVD 3x14: We're going down, down, down, together.

Holy hell. I don't even know what to do with this episode. We all knew this was going to be a bit of a ride, because in Mystic Falls formal wear is code for important events. But man, this was a fun episode. In a totally trippy, none of this makes any sense but I'm in love with how miserable everyone is sort of way. THIS FUCKING SHOW IS THE ( Read more... )

the vampire diaries, damon/rebekah is actually a thing now, watching the sun rise as i type, a filter what is it?, this show owns my heart, fuck my otp, tvd, episode reaction post!

this show/the complete dissolution of my morals = OTP

Amen, amen.

Heh, I feel you on Elena/Elijah. I do sort of ship it, but… only in a very shallow way. DNW it to be canon - not because I wouldn't enjoy it, but because Elena has enough fucking love interests.

The OT3 appears, and DAMON'S SHIRT IS SO GOOD.

LMFAO MY THOUGHTS EXACTLYYYYYYY.

I would say I'll try to stop stanning Damon so hard for the rest of the recap, but this isn't a time for lies.

*tear*

I appreciate that even though Damon is pretty much always right with his instincts/tactical plans, his ~downfall~ is always his tendency to let his emotions get out of hand. Complexity~~ and shit.

Brief note: so it used to be so much easier with Damon, Elena? WHEN was this, exactly? Oh no no, Elena was talking about how it used to be easier WITHOUT Damon, y/y? They were actually talking about Matt before she said that, if I recall ( ... )

Stefan's subservience to Elena was never about him trusting her - it was about him needing to give her what she needed, even if he didn't agree.

IAWTC. The dichotomy the show set up there is extremely dubious. But. I feel like this episode was filtered so much through Elena's POV, and Elena is ALL OVER the good!brother/bad!brother dichotomy? So the way the story presented the situation felt very deliberately dubious to me. Nonetheless, ITA does a WAYYYYYYYY better job of problematising Damon's attitude than it does with Stefan's. Old news.

But it is an interesting parallel - she resents Damon doing whatever he has to do to keep her safe, and yet she'll resort to having his neck snapped just to do what SHE has to do.AMEN. I feel like THIS, more than anything, is the central conflict in their r/ship. It's not that Damon is the Bad Boyfriend and Elena must get out (ugh to that interpretation); it's that they are basically THE SAME PERSON, and Elena is still unwilling to accept and acknowledge this part of herself, so she treats Damon ( ... )

You are 100% correct, as usual. And it makes me FEEL THINGS. Elena would absolutely be pushing Damon to stop caring and Stefan to start caring again, because that's what makes sense in her world. Yes, she's contradicting herself, and it's unfair, but she's just trying to make everything the way it was. THIS GIRL. LOVE.

they are basically THE SAME PERSON, and Elena is still unwilling to accept and acknowledge this part of herself, so she treats Damon as Other.GODDAMN THESE TWO. This is why she needs to make everything like it used to be - Stefan (well, good Stefan) is all the parts of herself that she likes, and Damon is all the parts she hates ( ... )

I just adore our discussions. It's like this thunderstorm of crazycakes and unapologetic river of tears. BLESS US TBH.

Oh, there's Rebekah! Oh wait, they're siblings. OH WAIT THAT WORKS. This is actually how I think.

PREACH. Though, Klaus/Rebekah remains #1. Actually if I ship Elijah with anyone, it IS Elena, but I'm still not interested in seeing anything more than their clinking glasses.

It's not that he's mean to Damon, because usually that just has me chanting "Make out!" to the two of them on my screen. But when you're mean to Rebekah, go die in a fire. Maybe that's it.

TROLOLOLOL. Fair enough. IDK, Kol won me over when he kept staring at himself in the mirror? I am too easy. :(

Elena would absolutely be pushing Damon to stop caring and Stefan to start caring again, because that's what makes sense in her world.

UGH, YES. It was all so ~simple back in S1, haha. I feel like all of her interactions with the two boys this episode were her subconscious attempts to capture the glory days.

He's breaking her down, and she is ( ... )

This was the first episode in which I saw why some people ship Elijah/Elena, but, like you, I think she has more than enough vampire love interests.

his is one of those moments when I can't focus on what's happening in the scene, because all I can think of is, HOW do all these people know this dance?

I feel like I'm the only person in fandom who wasn't ??? over this. I think the reason why everyone in Mystic Falls knows how to dance is because they do this kinda crap every week, LOL. Think about how many of these kinds of events we've seen and just imagine them happening continuously like that for 18 years. I'm sure they've all been to a dance like this before. (I mean, Elena even had a dress just hanging in her closet, apparently? ;P)

But him letting her follow through on her own (often idiotic) plans wasn't about him trusting her. So when that was suddenly supposed to be a big theme in the Stefan/Elena relationship, I found it jarring. Not that I'm condoning Damon's behavior either. He is very caveman-ish about it all (Rebekah is ( ... )

Yeah, this episode was the first time I felt any sort of chemistry between Elena and Elijah. But nothing will shake me from D/E, unfortunately. #my curse to bear

Elena even had a dress just hanging in her closet, apparently?

LOL, RIGHT?

Stefan letting Elena make her own choices, IMO, was always about Stefan needing to be the perfect boyfriend.

Yes, exactly. I understand why Elena might not get this, but I need to know that the show understands this.

I would not be surprised at all if Esther's kill-all-vampires secret motive is a future twist. It seems a lot of people on my flist agree with us (I have a smart flist. :D ). Elena never really thinks through her heroic plans enough, but she REALLY should have asked more questions ( ... )

Also, Rebekah judging Elijah for the possibility of yet another doppelganger romance? Reason #7386512 that this girl is the best.

Haha, I did love that she called him pathetic. Tell it like it is, Rebekah.

They were obviously setting up some sort of comparison with how Stefan respects Elena's agency and Damon doesn't. Stefan says she can take care of herself, and Elena mentions that he trusted her to make her own decisions. But here's the thing. That's not true.

I agree, and I like your take on it (or softly_me's take). I always felt like Stefan disrespected Elena's agency in a much more passive way i.e. he'd let Damon go ahead and do the grunt-work.

But I adore Damon's horrified incredulousness at the idea that he could be the weak link. His "My emotions - how is this even happening right now?" was amazing. Haha, and that made me laugh because Damon's emotions have always been a liability. Right back to snapping Jeremy's neck, and before that all the lengths he was willing to go to to rescue Katherine. He's completely driven by his ( ... )

Doesn't she always? Love this girl.

This, completely. Stefan could afford to 'let' Elena make her own decisions, because he knew Damon was there to fix everything that went wrong.

So much of Damon and Elena's relationship is unspoken (they have an understanding, obvs), and there's a code they both abide by. This season, Damon keeps breaking the code, and Elena is not having it.

I am so excited for the Damon/Rebekah morning after. Be Thursday already, damnit.

I love Rebekah and she was great in this episode.

I did wonder that about whether Esther's spell would lead to the end of all vampires!

Rebekah is one of my favorites. Already. She's that awesome.

We're forming a whole club of people with this interpretation about Esther and her sneaky spells! I'm ready to be proven right.

So, Elijah/Elena. I see it. I get it. I just don't ship it. I was fretting this afternoon about the possibility of yet ANOTHER vampire falling for Elena, and I just have no interest in it. I'm a bit tired of everyone under the sun falling for Elena. The Salvatores and all their delicious issues are more than enough for me to deal with, and if Elena needs another love interest (which god knows she doesn't), I'd much rather it be a human, because at least that would bring different issues with it. That being said, this episode actually handled the Elena/Elijah relationship beautifully, and I would be more than down for a BrOTP between them.

WITH YOU. 100%. I like Elijah, but I get so twitchy about the supposed chemistry with him and Elena. I just... please no. Do not. Ever. And yeah, since I really enjoy their dynamic I'm kind of annoyed that all the fan-madness and silly interviews make me nervous now during their every interaction.

The Original Family was SUCH a family, which was cute. The sibling bickering kind of worked. Klaus ( ... )

EXACTLY. It's very frustrating, because I'm getting very into their friendship, but now every time they're on screen together I'm scouring every detail to see if they're going to take it further. Grr.

Klaus' line about Rebekah only being out of her box for one minute and already ruining his life? I legit diesd.

THAT WAS MY FAVORITE. <33333

I feel like a lot of the complaints are from people who are jumping the gun because... she really hasn't had much response to his romancing yet.

Absolutely. For the people who were up in arms about how Caroline would never go for Klaus, well...she agrees.

Kicked puppies should never be all starry-eyed and hopeful.

ACK, MY HEART.

I don't care whether it makes sense when they are that perfect?

This is exactly it. Maybe Klaroline is ridiculous, but their scenes are stunning, and that's enough for me.
