Meme Me Up, Scotty!

Dec 11, 2011 19:51

So real life has seriously gotten in the way of my LJ posting lately. RUDE. I ran my very first 10k yesterday, and it sort of knocked me out for a while. I literally fell asleep at 9 PM last night. So I've been a bit absent, and VERY late on a few things, but I have spent the day catching up on the interwebs, and hey look, memes!

Holiday Memes, Five Things Meme, general flailing and/or ranting...the usual, basically. )

a filter what is it?, real life is inconvenient, holidays are the best!, meme!, my time where did it go

I am also most definitely a nationality mutt!! Though that has been my own doing. I've managed to live on four different continents over the past 8 years... and I've loved every single one of them for different reasons.

I have developed a bad (?) habit of not being able to stay in one place for very long. Which is awesome for lots of things (life experiences, boredom factors, learning new things, personal challenges, developing independence!) but not so awesome for others (relationships, jobs, saving cash!). Having said that, I do not regret any of what I've done at all. And I have definite plans to travel MOAR!

Also, all your TVD stuff... well, is there any point really in saying that I agree with all of it? ALL OF IT? Nope, no point!

FOUR continents? That is the coolest thing ever. Which continents? I know you're Australian, which is awesome enough, but this takes world traveler to a new level. As much as I travel, I've only been to 2 continents, which is a little shameful. Alas.

It's not a bad habit at all! I'm really impressed with you, actually. You have all the time in the world to settle down. I'm not brave enough to uproot myself like that, but I'm pretty jealous of your wandering ways.

Good to know I'm not just flailing in my own little TVD corner. JOIN ME, WHY DON'T YOU? ♥

Oooh, I've travelled to FIVE continents... but only(!) lived on four.

Australia (Born and bred!)
Europe (I lived in London for two years)
Africa (I lived in South Africa for six months)
North America (I lived in Canada for a year)

I've also travelled to Asia.

I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I WANT TO GO TO ALLLLL THE PLACES!

You only have two more continents to go!!! So when's the trip to Antarctica? (Not actually a joke - I totally want to go there.)

I WANT TO GO TO ALL THE PLACES TOO. Even looking at your icon makes me happy. I'm actually going to Europe next week - I AM EXCITEMENT. Nowhere I haven't been, but traveling is traveling, and I am happy.

(Any plans to visit the USA? I must rep my country at least a little.)

I love that we have all, basically, fallen hard for a show that revolves around neck snapping and heart ripping. There will never be enough. How is this show so great? Why do I need interweb friends to truly understand me. Why does the whole world not understand how fabulous it is to revel in the monstrosity. Seriously, we all need some death and destruction in our lives. I think it's the eye thing that makes us love Damon.

Also, although I know NOTHING about your past ships, I would guess that Sawyer/Kate and Lee/Kara might have featured. I UNDERSTAND ABOUT SHIPPING ANGST IS ALL...

WORD to all you say. This show has ruined me for all other shows. I find myself watching shows about lawyers, and every time someone acts obnoxious I just wish Damon would show up for some heart-ripping action. We're spoiled like that. I LOVE IT SO.

Sawyer/Kate are ABSOLUTELY on that list of ship traumas. I've never watched Battlestar Galactica (that's where Lee/Kara are from, right? I derive all my BSG info from that shipping meme), but I will never not be angry with how Sawyer/Kate were literally just dropped as a ship after all that development. It's actually my #1 source of dissatisfaction with the way Lost ended (I generally didn't mind the ending - controversial, I know - but THAT I couldn't handle).

THIS IS A FUCKING GREAT POST ever_neutral December 13 2011, 07:51:19 UTC
1. OH MY GOD MRS. DALLOWAY. Favourite. Fucking favourite. It did things~ to my soul too. That stream of consciousness style is really my jam, ngl. And man, I just found the story BEAUTIFUL and moving and all of the things.

4 & 5. Just, yes.

6. BUT "VD" IS NO LESS LOL-SOUNDING? And ooh, where did you get that "improbably excellent" description from? Also yes to all your feels.

7. ALL OF THE FEELS FOREVER. Because yes, my #1 reason for my love for the characters I love is: because they're fucked up. It's not because they're heroic or gorgeous or bad-ass or make great boyfriends. It's because their fucked-up-ness reaches into my soul~ to my own fucked-up-ness, which basically means I will love them no matter what. I ain't even mad. (Only, what post of mine are you referring to? Because I went out of my way not to ramble about Damon in my most recent one, hahahahaha.) And, just, this: They’re fucked up, complex, literal monsters, but that doesn’t mean we can’t love them anyway. And that is brave storytelling. -- CO-FUCKING-SIGNED. ( ... )

THIS IS A MOST EXCELLENT RESPONSE.

I want to re-read Mrs. Dalloway so much now. I NEED MORE TIME. I love that my flist is secretly super intelligent and well-read (not really secretly). One day we should do a book meme or something. Because I am actually addicted to memes now.

VD is SO RIDICULOUS. That freaking "Catch VD" campaign ruined any chance I had of sounding credible when I talk about this show. WHY, CW, WHY DO YOU DO THIS?

7. I am with you 10000000%. Dysfunction appeals to me because I'm dysfunctional. Who wants to watch perfect people waltz about being perfect?

Only, what post of mine are you referring to? Because I went out of my way not to ramble about Damon in my most recent one.

You have more will-power than I, my friend. But I'm talking about your most recent post. Even if it wasn't about Damon, it applies to him (and to pretty much every other character I've loved beyond reason in my lifetime). FOUR FOR YOU Glen Coco8. BRAIN TWINS, BASICALLY (and messed up twisted soul twins ( ... )

YOU DID IT! \o/ It's not going to be a particulary intelligent comment, because: a) your post mostly makes me nod; b) I'm braindead tonight. But let's try.

1. God, I need to read this book... But first I need to stop being in the "attention span of a goldfish" mode :(.

2. I didn't know you used to learn Italian :D. And, hey, if you're half Italian, you could totally be the third Salvatore!

3. I love your self-proclaimed Britishness. One day you need to tell me everything about London, because, to be honest, this city scares the shit out of me.

4. WORD. #we love fictional serial killers

5. Did you know that there was a Shakespeare quote in "Sigh No More"? Btw, I'm listening to it AGAIN.

6. IN HONOR OF YOUR TVD FLAILING THIS POINT WILL BE IN CAPS LOCK. BECAUSE IT'S SO AWESOME THAT A TEEN VAMPIRE SHOW BROUGHT YOU BACK TO FANDOM, AND FANDOM, AS WE'VE ALREADY ESTABLISHED, IS THE DEFINITION OF AWESOME!

7. Call me Tyrion Lannister, but I have an affinity for broken things. THIS. I guess healthy people make boring stories. And there ( ... )

I DID IT. I needed to get this one posted before I did another meme (and I just want to do ALL THE MEMES). I'll be behind on something else imminently ( ... )

1. Your fellow goldfish herebay confesses that reading Martin took her the whole summer, so 2014 seems too pesymistic :D.

3. I'll tell you my first memorable experience of London. First I spent a week in Wales, where everything was nice and quiet and so on. And then I was flying home from London. So when I came to London, I went out of the Liverpool Street Station, suddenly everything was HUGE, and here I am, in an unimaginable crowd, with two heavy backpacks, and there is a double-decker trying to run over me! THIS CITY IS SCARY!

9. Does it mean that you imagine me as this pissed-off sheep?

We were trying to figure out have sth done vs get sth done. Apparently, Americans are more eager to say "get". So, you know, after spending half an hour trying to analize all the possible meanings of "I had my leg broken" I saw your neck-snapping and I grinned so hard :D. Why would your teacher cringe?

I HATE Liverpool Station. It overwhelms me too. But there are many quieter areas of the city that I'm sure you'd love.

9. Only sometimes. ;)

I never really thought about how much we use 'get.' I suppose that's true. But from what I've been taught, in academic circles the passive voice is usually discouraged. I tend to avoid it (unless I'm not paying attention, apparently) - it has its uses, but there's usually a better and stronger way of saying whatever you're trying to say. I stand by the fact that Greta Martin got her neck snapped, though, because she totally brought that on herself. See, the passive voice can be relevant!
