Day 6 "Where are they now?"

Nov 06, 2012 12:33

I've always wondered what Daniel did with the flower that fell out of Vala's hair when she was abducted in Memento Mori. Did he give it back to Vala after SG-1 found her, or did he keep it? WHERE IS THAT FLOWER NOW?

I also wondered if the flower had been meant to be a real or silk, so I asked the guy who directed the episode:

Daniel pressed the flower in his personal (and extensively annotated) copy of '50 Shades of Grey'.

I can imagine Daniel's annotations of 50 Shades of Grey:
"23rd time Ana bites her lip"
"78th use of 'murmurs'"
"Inner goddess =/= Qetesh"

I clicked on that review of 50 Shades of Grey. Sounds like a real winner. *eye roll* Are you telling me people like this book??

When it was first published as AU fanfic of Twilight, Edward/Bella fans constantly crashed the server it was hosted on whenever a new chapter went up.

So the author ran a search/replace on the names & changed a few passages, submitted it to an indie press, and found herself on the bestseller list.

There's no accounting for taste. Or grammar.

Wow. Good question. I think it was a silk flower attached to some kind of flimsy hair clippy thing, that way it easily falls off so potential rescuers have a clue. Very Cinderalla-like, don't you think ( ... )

ooooohhh HOLY HOPPING ANGST BUNNIES

I'll bet that flower smelled good, though.

I love walking around Michael's (a craft store, don't know if it's nationwide). I don't know what it is in the silk flower aisle, but it always smells heavenly. Lifts my spirits in an instant.

There are Michael's Arts & Crafts store here in SoCal. I don't know if it's cinnamon, lavender, or urea formaldehyde that's the main aroma in the silk flower section.

BTW, if you're inspired to write fic based on your answer to the question, go right ahead.

It just occurred to me that Daniel didn't have such a tangible memento (that we know of) of Sha're when she was abducted as he did when Vala got abducted. (I still haven't laundered Mr. Campy's pillowcases. I AM SLEEPING ON THEM.)

Well...lessee...the flower would have immediately been shoved into his pants or jacket pocket. It would still be in that pocket in the next scene when he was discussing Vala's disappearance with Landry and quiite possibly he had it between his fingers during that conversation ( ... )

I can imagine Jack reacting that way to a memento of a loved one (because Jack doesn't do anything unless it's COOL) but Daniel's so artifact-fixated as an archaeologist that he'd probably have "mooned" over it for a minute or so before putting it some place where it wouldn't get lost. Daniel has such a regard for objects & their meaning that he lives when them in plain sight at home and at work.

I do agree 100% that he'd NEVER discard it, and would've hid it from Vala once she returned, and that she, in true treasure-hunter fashion would definitely have discovered it. And would probably have incredibly complex feelings about what it means that he'd kept it.

I tend to agree with campy. Yeah, Daniel's a guy and probably won't acknowledge any feelings about anything, even on threat of torture *wink*, but I do think he has complex feelings and emotions.

Besides, it makes me happier to believe he kept it, in a they're-destined-to-be-together kind of way. Sure Daniel's not like a lot of guys out there, he's sort of idealized for story-telling. And I suppose that's okay, to an extent. Vala's not really a realistic thief and con either. She's been idealized to fit a redeemed hero role. No problem there. There's something very attractive about that.

*sigh* What was my point? hmm... I think I lost it. Oh well. I think he kept the flower.

Oh yeah I said he kept it. I don't think he kept it on his person him though...and he definitely wouldn't have been putting it on public display. When he came across it again in his pant's pocket he definitely put it someplace safe and private, but he wouldn't have been taking it out and 'mooning' over it everytime he went back into the room where the drawer was. And while yes, he may be "artifact-fixated" I think that only applies to aritifacts from ancient civilizations...not a cheap silk flower attached to an equally cheap hair clip from the 21st century.

Oooh, what a lovely discussion! (Lovely picture too...)

*ponders*

I can see Daniel keeping the flower. Would he have a a place to keep personal mementos? Something similar to Vala's Jacek box? Like maybe he has a box with some things from childhood or his parents or whatever and he could shove the flower in there? Or is that beyond ridiculous?

Not ridiculous. He has a picture of Sha're (however farfetched that is), I think he'd have some things from other important relationships as well.

He kept it -- next to the ball of her hair.

...what? :D
