Day 6 "Where are they now?"

I've always wondered what Daniel did with the flower that fell out of Vala's hair when she was abducted in Memento Mori. Did he give it back to Vala after SG-1 found her, or did he keep it? WHERE IS THAT FLOWER NOW?

I also wondered if the flower had been meant to be a real or silk, so I asked the guy who directed the episode:

Wow. Good question. I think it was a silk flower attached to some kind of flimsy hair clippy thing, that way it easily falls off so potential rescuers have a clue. Very Cinderalla-like, don't you think?

As for what Daniel did with it? Maybe some of Vala's perfume or the scent of her shampoo got mixed up with it and he slept with it on his nightstand or left it on his desk as a reminder of the girl who got away... Depressing? Yeah. But this guy is seriously on the verge of tears when he and Vala meet up in the warehouse. I think he's been looking at that flower. Every. Single. Day.

Does Daniel give it back? Hmm... I dunno. If he gives it back it means that he kept it, and was hoping she'd come back so that he could give it back to her. But what if she doesn't really care that he kept it for her. Could be a sign that she doesn't really care that much about him or his feelings. If he doesn't give it back, he doesn't have to admit that he was unusually worried about her. And he can keep it in a shoebox somewhere where he can look in on it and mentally flog himself for being a coward about not telling Vala how he feels. Depressing? Yeah, little bit.

Then again, maybe he did try to give it back to her and she was trying to guard her feelings and made some flippant remark like he didn't have to do that, so he gets all bent out of shape thinking she doesn't really care about him and that leads to unusually snarkiness in "Company of Thieves." ;)

I love walking around Michael's (a craft store, don't know if it's nationwide). I don't know what it is in the silk flower aisle, but it always smells heavenly. Lifts my spirits in an instant.

There are Michael's Arts & Crafts store here in SoCal. I don't know if it's cinnamon, lavender, or urea formaldehyde that's the main aroma in the silk flower section.

BTW, if you're inspired to write fic based on your answer to the question, go right ahead.

It just occurred to me that Daniel didn't have such a tangible memento (that we know of) of Sha're when she was abducted as he did when Vala got abducted. (I still haven't laundered Mr. Campy's pillowcases. I AM SLEEPING ON THEM.)

Inspired? Maybe. Do I think I can do the topic justice? Probably not. *bites lip* I'll ponder it. Maybe I can free-write or drabble something.

Well, he may have been able to take some of Sha're's clothes or things home with him from Abydos...oh, and doesn't he have a picture of her that Vala mentions in "Counterstrike"? Guess he had a camera with him on that first mission through the Stargate. ;)

In the pilot, Daniel seems to just have up & left with Jack's team with only that poignant goodbye to his Abydonian family, no chance to pack a bag. Maybe Jack had taken the photo of Shauri from the very first time they went to Abydos (1994 movie), and gave it to Daniel when he took Daniel back to his place for a beer? hmmmmm

There was also the chalice/goblet that Daniel says,(in FIAD) that he and Sha're drank out of at their wedding.

It’s happening again.

I thought it would be different now. I’m older. I guess not wiser. Is that why it still hurts?

I’m sitting here staring at this damn flower and my chest is tight and my head aches. I feel like I want to throw up but I haven’t eaten anything in hours. Sam keeps walking past the door and it’s not cliché-her silence is deafening. I just want Vala to be okay.

No. That’s not it. I know she’s okay; I know she can take care of herself.

I just want her to come home. To me.

Probably shouldn't have constrained myself to 100 words. Probably should've just written whatever came to mind.
