I am reading the Kapoors book and the section on Raj is so fascinating.

And all the bits on Raj Kapoor and Nargis?

And he met her only 4 months after he married Krishna!! So sad!

Of course, we would have had no Sanju if he had married her....

O_O

But I've always found the idea that Sunil Dutt saved Nargis from a fire on the sets of Mother India, and then they fell in love, so extremely romatic.

Of course, this all sounds like one big BW movie to me, so of course I love it all, angst included! :D

I love the fire bit too. *swoon then LOL at OSO parody*

Yeah, the whole thing is this giant Bollywood movie. The whole Kapoor family is basically a Bollywood flick (the stuff on Shammi and Geeta Bali's clandestine marriage, or Shashi and Jennifer's forbidden young lurve :P)

Hee, I thought of OSO too. :D

Agreed. I really want to get this Kapoor book you're all reading!

Interesting. For some reason I had always assumed that she an RK were already over for a while when she met Sunil.

But it sort of makes you appreciate D and Hema, those crazy kids, running off and converting to Islam (even though they totally didn't believe in it) just so she could legally become his second wife.

Nope, apparently her walking out was a huge shock for him.

I always wondered about D and Hema. Did they convert back to Hinduism? What? And who does he live with, Hema or his first wife?

Nope, apparently her walking out was a huge shock for him.

Whoa, crazy!

I'm not sure on the details about D and Hema. I just remember that there was some sort of scandal about them quickly converting (because they so obviously aren't serious). I remember I even saw a copy of the marriage license posted somewhere on some message board. But I don't know if it eventually ended up being legal.

From what I understand based on some Hema and Esha interviews, he is like part time dad to both families, but I get the impression that he lives more with Sunny&Bobby's mom and comes to visit Esha and the girls (at least that seems to be the current situation).

Gotta love Bollywood. So full of crazy star stories. In a way, because the mores are so different, it actually reminds me a lot more of old black&white Hollywood rather than current Hollywood. Where you had all of those serial marriers like Lana Turner and so.

Yeah, apparently the one inkling he had is she came to visit him in high heels. Raj was only 5'7" and was a bit sensitive about it, especially since Nargis wasn't that much shorter (and he was sort of the runt, as Shammi was 6' and both Shashi and Prithviraj over 5'10"). So he said he just stared at her heels for 20 minutes and sort of knew it was all over and told her 'you have a tall man in your life.' (Sunil Dutt was 6')

Re: Hema and D. So odd. Why any woman would want to settle for being a part-time wife is weird to me.

Apparently he liked to think of his life as one long movie.

Must have been pretty hard to live with!

Yeah, then there is the bit where all his gfs and white switched to wearing only white clothes because it was his fave color.
