Or not actually the commuter train, but the so-called express train to Gothenburg. Ahahaha. Pretty quick, when it actually rolls, yes ( Read more... )

Hi there & enjoy the Christmas season!

Stein und Flöte sounds really good from what you say. Dang, there are too many good books to read out there and too much work to be done.

> Ohh, right, webcomics! I've got like two months to catch up with ^^ Like that for example! Sounds like an important and vital work.

Main characters have a way of being annoying, in part probably because they have to be dumb sometimes for plot purposes or because the writers just couldn't resist a bit of self-insertion. I like the tv-show "Bones", but the main female character grates a bit on me.

BTW, if Stein & Flöte consciously deals with tropes, may I recommend tvtropes.org? Unless of course you know that already which you probably do. It's such fun to dig around in, especially with a trope-conscious book in hand.

Oh yes, I've too many things on my to-read-list.

Lauscher, the main chara of Stein und Flöte, is really exceptionally thick-headed but in a way that's a point of the whole story. As it says on the back, he's a person who always walks in the wrong direction yet still manages to end up almost where he should.

Oh, I've hung a lot on tvtropes ^^ but this isn't such a clear way, not the kind of smart playing with fairytales like in Shrek or much urban fantasy. Instead we have yellow-eyed jacks who serve an evil mistress and turn out to be wolves, but we also have the humans defeating the wolves by refusing to become "wolves" themselves - finding their laughter again, being kind and so on ^_^

That does sound nice! I like stuff like Shreck but it's less likely to be really suspensefull IMO because I know it's partly parody. And an evil mistress is so classy. I hope she wears something black & figure-hugging. Evil queens on a throne of skulls are just fun, I can't help myself.

I read that book years ago. The main character is really an idiot, but as you said, that's kind of the point of the story.^_^
