I want a refund on my overpriced real estate...

... because I am about done with this freezing temperatures business. Also, if the weather is taking requests, some rain would be nice, because droughts are no fun.

ETA: Note to the weather: I officially did not mean that I wanted it to start dumping rain this very moment while still being close to freezing out.

I'm too tired to discuss the brilliance of 'Farscape', so I shall discuss the Gates. ;)

Actually, we pretty much covered all this. And, are you sitting down?, I just downloaded this weeks SGA because something significant happens which reinforces my belief they don't know how to phase out characters. And should characters even be phased out? The show has it's fair share of problems, but the fans seem to like it and I'm getting this sense of 'Well, there's nothing broken, but let's fix it!' I think Sci-Fi will end up with another show with falling ratings.

This is no slam to Amanda Tapping, but the people she's played off of for ten years are not going to be around anymore and we know it took Ben at least half a season to start fitting in. They might as well have canceled both shows and just started a new hybrid show.

And the standalone Gate movie with your boyfriend has me excited. Damn you woman!

I won't be seeing the episodes until they air on SciFi, but I read reactions about the thing you're talking about and--without getting into it since I think there are people reading this thread who would be upset to come across that kind of major spoiler--yeah, my confidence in the SGA showrunners is not high right now. And while tapping plays off Hewlett quite well, their relationship has been in isolation (and mostly in Rodney's mind); I agree that it's going to take some work to establish her, and it's going to happen in the midst of a bunch of other upheaval.

(a) HE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND *ahem*, and (b) one of the constants of Stargate is that the reality never matches the potential, which is why so many people write fic for it, but I still think that sounds like a pretty damn cool plotline. I really want to ( ... )

Re: The Farscape poll, I voted for the paper/rock/scissors bit because I feel it sums up so much of what was awesome about the show. I agree with everyone who pointed out that it's a show about adults, which is refreshing - I think this is the same reason I like Angel more than Buffy, and accounts for much of my Nip/Tuck addiction. Shows about adolescents (like Buffy) tend to give us characters who don't know who they are yet, but nowadays I prefer shows about people who think they already know who they are, then have to change or start over. (Call it the midlife crisis genre.) This is actually one of things I enjoy most about Heroes.

That's one of my favorite things about Heroes too--especially the way most of the heroes find their powers manifesting themselves in ways that cause profound problems for them.

w/rt the poll: because Kemper's a romantic, and Froon is brilliantly evil, and Henson wanted something that would really push the boundaries, and SciFi let them do it (for 3 years, anyway), and both Ben and Claudia were far far better than anyone thought. A concatenation of improbable events we are not likely to see again in our lifetimes, sadly.

Yeah, I just clicked all the ticky-boxes. Oh, Farscape!!! And I've just started writing Chiana, in a way that I would never have dreamed, and suddenly I'm so in love with her, and I'm sure I'll hate her and love her again before I'm done (if I actually manage to write this thing). But that's one of the many beauties of Farscape, too: there's not a single character on there that I don't sometimes hate, and only Jool that I never love. These characters are so multi-dimensional, so complicated, and I love and hate them like only real people can be loved and hated ( ... )

I couldn't stand Noranti until the end of Season 4, when she became barely tolerable to me. I was telling brynnmck that I have issues about rewatching Farscape because from late Season 2 on, I can't rewatch any of it without watching the entire thing serially through the miniseries; it's that emotionally involving, and I need that closure. That hasn't been true of any other show for me.

They never did figure out how to use her, what a diplomat could contribute to an action show.I find it especially frustrating that in Season 1 they introduced some interesting tension between diplomacy/Weir and military/Sheppard approaches to problems, and having Weir make command decisions, learning to value military methods in some cases, and having to sort out when they ( ... )

Noranti never bothered me as much as Jool. Jool only ever annoyed me. But come to think of it, I'm not sure I ever really loved Noranti, either. So I amend my statement: no character I don't sometimes hate, and only Jool and Noranti that I never love. ;)

And yes, there is no other show that gives me that sense of having to watch all of it right now! There are individual episodes I can skip, but few individual episodes I can watch without wanting all the context. I sort of envision myself rewatching all of FS, in order, over and over for the rest of my life.
