Day 52: Sun Room

Oct 06, 2010 23:12

If she were honest, Yukari would have said she had no idea what a "sun room" was supposed to entail. She didn't ask, though, because by the time she had finished asking all the more important questions (which still weren't getting answered in any way that made sense), Yukari was getting rather fed up with all the nonsense her accompanying nurse was ( Read more... )

[For Anise! And here it was the end of the day and Mori still wasn't sure what to do with himself. If the night came, he would protect those still left here, but after that...? Mitsukuni was gone and Mori felt like he was a ship lost at sea. Worse than that, he was a practical danger to anyone near him. He wasn't paying attention and he had thirteen new bruises, one of which was on a very conspicuous spot on his forehead, to show for it. If more of the same happened when he was supposed to be protecting someone, he could never forgive himself ( ... )

After lunch, Anise took some time to look over the bulletin in the Sun Room. There wasn't very much that was relevant to her, but a couple notes did catch her eye. Among them was one discussing Honey's whereabouts. Anise felt her heart sink when she saw the confirmation that Honey had, in fact, been released. Honey, of all people? It didn't seem fair ( ... )

The kittens had found him like they always did. Two had jumped up to wrestle on his stomach and one was busy trying to chew his fingertips off, but Mori didn't mind. It was business as usual as far as he was concerned with kittens. The two on his stomach didn't both him very much anyway since they were busy biting at each other and not him. They were also being careful not to use claws, which was good seeing how the shirts weren't all that impervious to little kitty claws ( ... )

Anise matched Mori's weak smile with one of her own as she took up his offer and sat down next to him. The kitten that ran at her rubbed itself against her ankles, then flopped down on the floor, rolling over her toes and batting at her slippers playfully. Anise watched it for a moment, but soon looked back up at Mori.

"I, um, heard about Honey," she began, unsure if this was the right way or the right time to broach the subject. With how quiet and reserved Mori was, it was sometimes hard to judge his feelings and opinions, but he usually seemed content with her company, so Anise decided to proceed gently for now. "... How are you holding up?"

"Fuuuuuuuzzbutt," Yuffie called, almost as soon as she'd set foot in the sun room. But, as she looked around, it wasn't her favourite kitten darting out from underneath a sofa that caught her attention. It was a girl sitting on one of the sofas…

It was Yukari.

Yukari, who'd gone missing-two days ago, wasn't it? Except, no, 'missing' wasn't the right word for it; she'd been released, just Aerith, just like Nanaki and Sano and Cloud and… and just like Cloud, and Yuffie herself, she'd come back.

For a long moment, Yuffie didn't move.

It wasn't like they'd been best pals, or anything. But… all the same… they hadn't been strangers, either. They'd had some fun, right? They'd even worked together. So, what to do? It was a kinda awkward situation to be in, Yuffie thought… Until she remembered that, damnit, if the Great Ninja Yuffie wanted to do something, she did it, screw the consequences ( ... )

Yukari's mind had drifted off elsewhere entirely, so she couldn't say she had heard someone else approach. She lifted her arm off of her face almost instantly when a nearby voice spoke up, almost expecting it to be for someone else until she noticed there hadn't been anyone else nearby for the question to be directed to.

She glanced around for only a moment before answering the question; "No, not really. Did you want to sit?" Although Yukari had to wonder why she picked this particular spot when there were plenty of other empty ones; maybe this area looked the most appealing, or... something. Who knew. It was kind of like asking why someone decided to sit right next to you on the monorail when it wasn't even that crowded in there.

For a second longer, Yukari had almost decided to continue paying the other girl no mind, but it did hit her that she was wearing the same, dull grey uniform she had on, as well (because, honestly, they couldn't have picked a better color for this thing? Not to mention the yellow smiley face was almost ( ... )

Instead of answering verbally, Yuffie scooped Fuzzbutt into her arms and toppled, carelessly gymnastic and not even thinking about it, onto the sofa.

… This was so surreal.

Yuffie supposed that she was just gonna have to get used to it. People left all the time here; there was no helping that. Not unless-not until-they got to Landel, anyway. "Yeah, I thought as much. Just got here today, right? I can tell you most of what you need to know," Yuffie said, bright and easy. "It's a bit of a trip, so, um, just try to-Fuzzbutt!"

Fuzzbutt had squirmed out of Yuffie's careful grip, mewing angelically, and proceeded to reattempt Operation Boobland Exploration. For the fourth time, sheesh. "Try this again, and I'll feed you to an orderly," Yuffie threatened, snaking a hand under her shirt. Unfortunately, Fuzzbutt was getting better at this game, and extraction wasn't gonna be easy.

"Um, Yuka- I mean, hang on a second, okay? Or just…-ow, quit it!-ask me whatever you want. I'm still listening."

So far, it was sounding promising; she seemed more than willing to answer her questions, although somewhere in her, Yukari hoped she wasn't going to spew out the same ridiculous claims as the nurse she was with before did.

... Though, this girl seemed a bit distracted in the meantime. Despite the unknown and completely weird situation she managed to land in, Yukari did manage a chuckle while covering her mouth with a hand in an attempt to stifle it. Given how carefree she was being, Yukari wondered if there was anything to worry about at all.

"Do you two need a moment? I'm sure I could spare a few minutes." Yukari grinned, then immediately waved a hand dismissively. "Okay, okay, joking around aside," her grin fell as she adjusted herself more comfortably on the couch. "Where is this place? Or better yet, what is it? I could have sworn I've never heard of a hospital like this in the area."

The process of telling Javert about the night he spent being under the mercy of one of the institute's crazed doctors was like getting a tooth pulled out, or according to Sechs' bruised pride, punched out! So by the time Sechs shuffled into the Sun room with his arm wrapped around his broken side, he was far from being in any sort of a pleasant mood ( ... )

While he'd been careful to watch the bulletin all day, he had to just cross his fingers and hope that this lead would actually be something worth looking into. Sure enough, there was a very limited number of dark-haired, yellow-eyed men in the Sun Room, so while the handwriting had been a little different, it was still the right person.

He was busy with some of the kittens, but switching from one kitten to another shouldn't be a problem! As the self-proclaimed big kitty, he had no qualms about walking up and being just as clingy as the kitten now climbing up Sechs' leg. In fact, he plopped down in the seat next to the android without much more than a giggle by way of greeting, then leaned over on the other man's shoulder to watch the little feline.

"Sechsy! Did you miss me?"

Unaware of the approaching blond, Sechs was just in the middle of grabbing Gally when heard a familiar chuckle, followed by a small burden plopping down on his shoulder. For a second, Sechs thought another cat had just pounced on his back, but the voice he heard in his ear told him otherwise. Ah crap...!

Now with two pests to deal with, Sechs found himself struggling to wrangle the kitten off and bark in Fai's face. "Ugh! No!" he answered through gritted teeth, not one bit happy with all the attention he was suddenly receiving, "And don't call me-- AGH! Damn cat--!!" To Sechs' pained dismay, Gally dodged his reaching hands and made a swift (and very prickly) scramble up past his waist and into the back of his shirt, digging her needle-like nails into his skin with no mercy.

Grunting and cursing, Sechs dragged his attention back to the kitten, struggling to grab the cat without twisting his bruised torso too much. "Whaddya want Fai?!" he growled, "Can't you see I'm-- Ah, shit! -- Busy? I'm meeting up with someone here!"

Finally, ( ... )

Yuuhi managed to duck out of the way just in time to avoid the worst of Sechs' bark, but couldn't avoid the small kitten that was shoved into his arms. The thing was riled up and a little scared after his time with the android, so Yuuhi's fingers ended up with a few new scratches before he managed to settle the little creature.

"Meeting with someone? Oooh, me too, me too!" he said with a smile. "I haven't met them before, but they said they needed a good listener."

The kitten didn't seem to want to sit in his hands, and instead crawled up onto his shoulder and kept bumping the corner of his jaw with its soft little head. He reached up to pet it, barely able to see it, but he managed to get it purring after he found the right spot.

"But who're you meeting with? I bet it's someone really important, hm?"

By the time lunch had finished, the drugs had mostly worn off. Almost mostly. Irritation had begun to build and stick, coating the inside of his skull, the roof of his mouth, prickly like burrs and sharp with an aftertaste before he'd even swallowed.

Because they'd not completely worn off, and because for the first time since as a child he'd hefted a refrigerator over his head, rage had not consumed him before any other emotion could get a toe in the door, what Shizuo felt, primarily, as the nurse walked him from the Cafeteria, was confusion. Confusion had never lasted long before annoyance with that lack of understanding propelled him into anger, and even now, his teeth grit. But, even annoyed, Shizuo did not seek anger. His resistance, instinct beaten down by his having given up on fighting it years and years ago, mixed with the drugs, kept him from twisting the woman's arm ( ... )

Despite the talk she'd attempted to have with Izaya, she really hadn't gotten anything concrete except for location (maybe) and the one is charge (also a maybe). Potentially this was America, and the one who had brought them here was human and not related to aliens of any sort. Again barring that this was a dream of some kind. Izaya had been fairly himself for it to have been one though...

She's sat through the shift with food again, watching the tray with caution. Speaking was still something that was bothering her, so eating would have been even more of an experiment. The Dullahan hadn't remembered eating in her whole life, whereas she'd at least used her voice before. Not spoken through a mouth, but still used. And with her apprehension came the aftereffects. By the time she was taken back to the big room, she didn't feel that good though. Maybe she should have tested one of the shell things. Eating might not have been so bad in the long run. It had to be better than feeling like this though ( ... )

It would not, in fact, have bothered Shizuo that much to wait for her to write; after all, he waited for her to type out words on her phone. Better waiting for written words than listening to a lot of talking. Not that the option to be annoyed or not presented itself, as what he was first aware of was the wave, movement that drew his attention from the sky (not staring directly at the sun), to those fingers, then immediately to the page held out.

Shizuo. That was his name. Not Ivan Peace, which the staff kept calling him, which pissed him off, only he hadn't been able to reach that point again. Shizuo, so like Izaya, this person had to know him -- he did not remember shouting his name that morning at breakfast, protesting Izaya's damn nickname. But who was this guy?

No, maybe, this girl; the face looked familiar. That was pretty weird for Shizuo, too, almost recognizing a face without knowing the person. A vague memory stirred, something with pens and a hysterical girl. Superglue. Only, the expression on this woman's face was ( ... )

She'd had a second page - ready with her name and the question of how he'd gotten there himself - in hopes that he might be a little more forward about saying what he knew, but it went unneeded. He seemed to understand it right off somehow. From her writing, or maybe from her mannerisms, she didn't know. He couldn't have recognized her though because even she didn't know what she looked like. Not really. Even though there'd been that girl. Harima Mika. She'd been made to look something like her, or so she'd thought, but that didn't mean she actually looked like that. Or... maybe it did? If Shizuo was able to recognize her so quickly. He had been there that time ( ... )
