Night 48: M61-M70 Hallway

Mar 22, 2010 19:05

Kirk looked up as he always did when the intercom came on during dinner, as if it would be that easy to catch a glimpse of the man who presided over their captivity, and did so with such glee. CM-US trials. Without meaning to, he glanced at Admiral ZEX at those words, and away again when "re-trials" were mentioned. What did that mean? It wasn't ( Read more... )

Perhaps tonight they'd have a better chance of getting to the kitchens. It usually seemed that every other night they had problems, either with the brainwashed patients or just time escaping them like common sense sometimes escaped Tamaki. Speaking of which, Mori still felt terrible that Mitsukuni had finally uncovered the truth. Mitsukuni didn't seem too upset, but then he always tried to put a brave face on. Which was exactly why Mori was standing in front of his door, staring at it, wondering if he should put some homemade armor on. The staff wouldn't help him when it came to Mitsukuni getting angry.

"..."

It would suck if his cousin beat him down in front of Remy. Mori didn't mind when he did it in front of their friends because everyone knew that Mitsukuni was a champion in the martial arts, but Remy might get a little freaked out. And it'd hurt. A lot.

"..."

Time to go.

Taking a deep breath, Mori opened the door, tucked his staff under his arm and headed down the hall.

Another night of quiet spent waiting for his roommate to clear out. Grell hated having to share a room with anyone, especially a man so gruff as Kurogane, but there was little choice in the matter. All of his requests to be moved to the women's quarters were met with exasperated sighs and pathetic excuses as to why they simply couldn't do such a thing. Grell waited until the night progressed a bit further and then stripped and redressed himself in his usual outfit ( ... )

ZEX returned Kirk's wishes for good luck before he left, although he wasn't sure what good it would bring. The talk of re-trials made him very uneasy, and brought back all too clear memories of what had happened to him the first time. He was already down to one eye... losing the other was unthinkable. Admiral ZEX could not go blind.

He put on his uniform, taking a moment or two to let it calm his nerves somewhat, and sat down. He may have to travel alone tonight. All he'd heard from Hayes today was that he'd run into his Captain, which was obviously a lie. He'd watched his Captain die right in front of him, and as Hayes didn't seem particularly malicious, he didn't think it was a deliberate deception. No doubt Hayes had simply been mistaken.

Still, it stirred up unpleasant feelings. ZEX took a few moments to clear his thoughts, sitting at his desk and planning out his route. It'd do no good for him to go out while agitated... it became difficult to think that way, and surely the phantasms that pestered him would use it to their

[From here.]

Stomping past the doors with his flashlight (which was thankfully not blacking out on him) gleaming into the darkness ahead, it looked like he was in the right hallway so far. He figured he'd go for room 66 first, since that number fitted better in his memory than the others.

Once he stood before the VUX's possible room, Sechs was about to knock on the door with the butt of his axe but a halting thought caused him to hesitate. Wait... If Sechs were to talk to ZEX about his... situation... wouldn't that mean he would have to go into detail about what the doctor did to him? Talking about it once was enough ( ... )

When he heard the pounding on his door, ZEX leapt from his chair, his scalpel held at the ready. They were not taking him again, they weren't. He was not going without a fight this time, it wasn't happening to him again.

He stood there, breathing hard, waiting for the door to open to reveal the orderlies, but it stayed shut. Then, a voice... one that sounded familiar. ZEX had a good memory for voices, as did most VUX... even if most of the humans here tended to use the same common dialect, there was enough a variance in pitch and tone that he could still tell them apart.

"Sechs?" He called out from inside. He let himself relax just a little, although he kept his scalpel in hand for now. Better safe than sorry, and this place had played crueler tricks on him before.

Bingo. Got the right room at the first guess!

"Yeah, it's me," Sechs gruffly answered back, "Who else could it be?"

Something slithered by the corner of Sechs' eye. Snapping his head towards the movement, Sechs' flashlight beamed down upon the telltale figures of the snake-like blobs of ink crawling out of the floor towards him. Sechs cursed under his breath. No matter how many times he saw that drug's particular manifestation; he still couldn't shake off just how unsettled it made him feel. Crap. Let me in already--!

Keeping his flashlight focused on the approaching black vines, Sechs glared back towards the door. "Thought I'd pay ya a visit!" he added, doing his best to keep the discomfort out of his voice, "You gonna let me in or not?"

After dinner, the Doctor dressed himself in his own clothes again. A pat to the pocket confirmed that his glasses were missing--Donna really did have them, after all. He'd just have to get them back.

There was also the matter of Yuffie's invitation. She had been pleasant company, and the jog he'd taken with her had been very welcome. He was interested in learning more about Wutai and her language, too, but the hours of the night were precious; anything other than investigation of this place was better left for the day.

Still, whether he went with Yuffie or tried to go with Donna again... either option started from the same place. Pocketing his torch, he left the room, headed for the women's block.

[Stomping in from here.]Leaving ZEX behind, Sechs stormed down the hall as his mind buzzed with overwhelming chagrin over what just happened. Great, so much for learning a new battle technique from an ally ( ... )
