Day 48: Sun Room [Second Shift]

Mar 07, 2010 11:32

Hmph. While this Rude was the proverbial "man of few words," von Karma found more potential use from him than a number of the other patients he had met put together. He would still ask Franziska about the man... as well as the other people he had learned that she had been spending time around. Many of them were utter fools, especially that ( Read more... )

[from here]The Sun Room barely deserved its name today, with only the overhanging gloom visible through the large skylights. Nunnally glanced up with a slight frown, then suppressed a sigh and made her careful way across the room toward one of the sofas. The orderlies weren't hovering quite as closely today, she'd noticed; perhaps they trusted her to be able to better manage the crutches? It seemed odd, though, since she'd only just started to use them a day ago. And already she didn't need the braces. How was any of it possible ( ... )

Though the weather might have bothered some, Mihai had only ever known gray skies and cold winds. So he didn't understand his nurse's sigh as the woman turned her eyes upward, nor her insistence that patients shouldn't be exposed to such conditions. Others obviously had more luck when it came to convincing their keepers, but this woman's stubbornness rivaled Kiri's in all the worst ways. So Mihai resigned himself to remaining indoors a bit longer ( ... )

There had been no sign of that same kitten so far, though Nunnally could see that there were several wandering around and pestering other patients in the room. Between their antics and the fascinating variety of people around her, she was quite distracted up until the point a small piece of plastic came skittering across the floor and landed directly between her feet. She blinked down at it, then up at the kitten, then up even more at the stranger who'd arrived to come fetch it ( ... )

Glad that the young lady didn't take offense to his intrusion on her personal space, Mihai placed the cap firmly back on the pen, ensuring it wouldn't get away from him a second time. Securing the item in question, however, quickly lost importance as Mihai noticed the girl's aborted attempt to lean forward. The crutches so close at hand provided an easy answer, and without a moment's thought, Mihai leaned down again, this time to pick up the kitten that had brought him over in the first place ( ... )

Kurt came out of the shower, rubbing his hair with a towel, which he gladly handed over to a nurse once he was done. That shower had felt great, though he was still a little hungry after sleeping through breakfast. Ah well, lunch would be coming up soon enough, and Kurt wasn't the type to starve.

He did take a moment to dash off a note about Logan's disappearance (though... sadly he didn't think it would help much), then settled into a couch to curl up. It was a little nippy today, and he really wished he'd had his fur at this point to keep him a little warmer.

Tracing the dark bruise around his wrist from when the blind guy had yanked so hard on his bracelet. There was a larger one that he decided looked a little like Montana about six inches above it. He wondered with a depressed sigh how long it would take for them to disappear. Definitely not as long as it usually took, which was good. He just had to hold out until then, and hope that no one got as upset as Terry and Peter had.

[For Indy!]

The courtyard didn't hold any particular appeal for Indy, who'd experienced plenty of cold weather and took just about every chance to get out of it that he could. Since an expedition to, say, Peru was evidently out of the question, he accepted the nurse's offer of the next best thing and allowed her to lead him to a couch in the Sun Room. It was a pretty poor substitute, Indy thought.

Since it was the best he was going to get, though, he gamely turned toward the other occupant of the couch to strike up the requisite conversation. It was another teenaged boy (why was there such an abundance of teenage boys and lawyers around here, Indy wondered yet again. He couldn't think of any connection), dark hair, narrow face. One of his arms was badly bruised--recently, too, judging by the color.

"Rough night?" Indy asked conversationally, gesturing to the bruises. Seemed like as good an opening as any.

The black eye might take some time--they always did. But at least the stitch was out of his lip, which was a relief considering it stuck out like a sore thumb on Kurt's paler face. It was totally worse being in his normal appearance like this. At least his fuzzy form tended to hide purple a bit better, and--

"Euh?" Kurt looked up, having been entranced by the depressing train of thought he'd been clearly carried away by. Considering he hadn't noticed the other guy sit down, Kurt had probably overshot his destination by a few stops, too.

"Not..." Kurt trailed off, suddenly realizing why this guy looked so familiar. This was Peter's friend--the one they'd found when the town was being overrun by zombies. The one who'd seen Kurt looking more or less how he should look without the aid of fancy-pants technology. "...really," he finished. There must have been at least a five to ten second gap between those two words ( ... )

When the kid turned, Indy saw the damage wasn't limited to those bruises on his arm. Maybe he'd run into Dent's friend. Still, it looked like he'd been lucky by this place's standards--at least he was better off than Pilgrim had been the other morning ( ... )

Heiji wasn't too happy to come out of his shower, as the Sun Room was colder than the steamy, warm showers. But Heiji thought that just hanging out in the showers was just a little... suspect. Plus he didn't need to see Shinichi naked and arguing again. That was just awkward ( ... )

Normally Ayumu was awake well before the nurse arrived to fetch her in the morning; after years of rising before the sun she simply couldn't sleep late, nor could she sleep when someone was in the room with her. And yet this morning she awoke to find a nurse shaking her shoulder and had to quickly supress the immediate impulse to fight back. The nurse just chuckled at how her patient had started awake, chiding her for being a "sleepyhead" and missing breakfast ( ... )

Heiji looked over at the quiet, familiar voice. She had a nice smile, definitely. It at least encouraged him to smile back.

"Sometimes... the truth isn' what we want it t'be," Heiji said simply. "I'd prefer goin' back t'Kenren-han with somethin' more concrete than, 'We're pretty sure it was this guy, 'n he's been released so there's really no way t'get any kinda solid proof 'r confession'. I mean... th'guy killed his friend.

"But," Heiji rolled his shoulders in a half-shrug, half-stretch. "S'not like this is somethin' new 'n diff'rent. I've been on all sortsa cases where th'truth just wasn' nice 'n easy."

"Mm. No. Sometimes the truth isn't at all easy." Ayumu laced her fingers behind her back in an idle-seeming gesture, turning to look at the bulletin again. To the casual observer, she might have been only peripherally interested in the conversation with the young man, with most of her attention on reading. "But I've always thought that knowing the truth is worthwhile, simply because it is the truth. Even if it's difficult or painful."

As evidenced by her newfound knowledge of what was to come for the Shinsengumi. It was unpleasant, certainly; just her awareness of Susumu's fate (if she nor Okita managed to return and change it, that was) had caused a shameful loss of control on her part. When she had attacked Himura, though, it hadn't been a denial of truth, but rather a reaction to it. She still would rather knowHer gaze paused briefly at a post with Honey's name on it, specifically the part addressed to "Sen-nee." That was...interesting, but she forced herself to look away again. "And at least now you can move on to something else ( ... )

While he felt cleaner, the shower hadn't done much to lift his spirits. And walking into the Sun Room, who were the first people he saw? Minamimoto. Talking with Mr.H. Neku's hands clenched into fists at his sides. They were just chatting it up like old friends! Had they been right all along? Had CAT really been the one pulling the strings in Shibuya. He wanted answers and right now, he didn't care what it took to get them.

Glaring in their direction, he made a beeline toward the two men.

Sheena was nervous. She'd stayed in her room, missed breakfast, hoping to get some extra sleep and calm her nerves down. It didn't work. She was worried about the things that could go wrong that night, afraid Yukari would just laugh at her, wondering if there would be any monsters in the kitchen that night...

When she realized that the nurse had brought her to the Sun Room, Sheena practically panicked. This was most likely where that damn youkai was going to be and, if she saw Sheena, would probably make a point of teasing her about their date that night. As if one tease wouldn't make her explode into tiny ninja bits.

Seeing Neku, Sheena reacted without any real regard as to what the boy might have been doing, only vaguely recognizing in the back of her mind that he was probably on the way to get himself sedated. "Hey, come with me," she said.

Grasping him firmly by the hand, she dragged him outside after her.

Well, she had missed breakfast. Not surprisingly, Bella wasn't all that hungry, so she didn't take it as a large loss. After all, lunch would be in a few hours, so she was good until then ( ... )

Once all nice and clean, Honey glanced around the Sun Room, checking for someone fun to sit with. There were several options, but there was a quiet girl sitting by herself that seemed like she might be fun. And he hadn't seen her before, so it would be polite to introduce himself, right?

Honey wandered over, holding his pink stuffed rabbit a little shyly in front of him as he smiled up at her.

"Hi!" he tried once he was close enough to introduce himself. She seemed really pretty, maybe she was nice too. It was always sad when pretty girls ended up being all mean or scary. Or maybe she was like Haru-chan? Rather than keep wondering he took a couple steps closer, putting on his friendliest smile. "I'm Honey! What's your name?"

At the sound of a small voice, Bella was instantly knocked out of her thoughts and turned her gaze towards the boy who had wandered up to her. He looked so young ... like a child! Smiling right back, the teenager nodded her head. "I'm Bella. Nice to meet you, Honey."

Truthfully, Bella always liked children. She supposed it was all because of her mother, who had once gone through a baby craze, but that was years ago. Still, the interest held on. Because of such, her eyes drifted down, looking at the rabbit in the boy's arms, and she tilted her head to the side. Children tended to like it when you mentioned their personal belongings, didn't they? "I like your rabbit. Where did you get that?"

Perhaps they had a thing with children that allowed them to maintain some kind of personal item, since they were so young. If by day they were holding the facade of being a real mental institution, it made perfect sense.

"Bella-chan!" he repeated, jumping up onto the couch as he did so. It was easy and short already, though it was fun to make up his own nicknames. When she asked about his bunny rabbit his smile widened and he held it out proudly for her inspection.

"Eheh! I forgot to introduce you. Ta-da! This is Usa-chan! My Nana made him for me when I was little. She's really good huh! It's the only one like it in the whole world, even though it looks like you could buy it somewhere."

Making himself comfortable on the couch, Honey smiled easily, "What about Bella-chan? Now it's your turn to tell me something about you! Hmmm like... Where are you from? Or what's your favorite thing to do?"
