Day 48: Sun Room [Second Shift]

Mar 07, 2010 11:32

Hmph. While this Rude was the proverbial "man of few words," von Karma found more potential use from him than a number of the other patients he had met put together. He would still ask Franziska about the man... as well as the other people he had learned that she had been spending time around. Many of them were utter fools, especially that ( Read more... )

Well, she had missed breakfast. Not surprisingly, Bella wasn't all that hungry, so she didn't take it as a large loss. After all, lunch would be in a few hours, so she was good until then.

When given a choice, the teenager picked the Sun Room. Not exactly the most exciting choice, but she was still somewhat tired, so she didn't mind. Moving over towards an empty couch, she plopped herself down with a soft grunt, reaching out to grasp onto a stray pillow as she looked around.

She wondered how Edward was doing. She couldn't see him, but that was okay. Weren't the "children" supposed to be in the showers? Bella couldn't help but chuckle at that thought - he was over 100 years old, but because his legal age was still 17, he was still considered a child. The poor thing.

That was one good thing about being eighteen, she supposed. She wasn't forced into showering with children.

Sighing to herself, Bella wondered if maybe she should go check out the bulletin board instead ... but her sleepy attitude kept her seated, and she soon found herself gazing off at nothing.

Once all nice and clean, Honey glanced around the Sun Room, checking for someone fun to sit with. There were several options, but there was a quiet girl sitting by herself that seemed like she might be fun. And he hadn't seen her before, so it would be polite to introduce himself, right?

Honey wandered over, holding his pink stuffed rabbit a little shyly in front of him as he smiled up at her.

"Hi!" he tried once he was close enough to introduce himself. She seemed really pretty, maybe she was nice too. It was always sad when pretty girls ended up being all mean or scary. Or maybe she was like Haru-chan? Rather than keep wondering he took a couple steps closer, putting on his friendliest smile. "I'm Honey! What's your name?"

At the sound of a small voice, Bella was instantly knocked out of her thoughts and turned her gaze towards the boy who had wandered up to her. He looked so young ... like a child! Smiling right back, the teenager nodded her head. "I'm Bella. Nice to meet you, Honey."

Truthfully, Bella always liked children. She supposed it was all because of her mother, who had once gone through a baby craze, but that was years ago. Still, the interest held on. Because of such, her eyes drifted down, looking at the rabbit in the boy's arms, and she tilted her head to the side. Children tended to like it when you mentioned their personal belongings, didn't they? "I like your rabbit. Where did you get that?"

Perhaps they had a thing with children that allowed them to maintain some kind of personal item, since they were so young. If by day they were holding the facade of being a real mental institution, it made perfect sense.

"Bella-chan!" he repeated, jumping up onto the couch as he did so. It was easy and short already, though it was fun to make up his own nicknames. When she asked about his bunny rabbit his smile widened and he held it out proudly for her inspection.

"Eheh! I forgot to introduce you. Ta-da! This is Usa-chan! My Nana made him for me when I was little. She's really good huh! It's the only one like it in the whole world, even though it looks like you could buy it somewhere."

Making himself comfortable on the couch, Honey smiled easily, "What about Bella-chan? Now it's your turn to tell me something about you! Hmmm like... Where are you from? Or what's your favorite thing to do?"

Bella-chan ... hadn't she heard that somewhere before? Either way, Bella smiled when Honey moved to sit on the couch with her.

"It's a very nice bunny," she told him with a smile when he held it out for her to look at. How nice, a family made present. She knew from experience that those were always the best; her mother tended to make her things, and she admitted she still had all of them hiding about somewhere in her room. "I like it."

Talking about herself was never really her strong point, so Bella simply shrugged her shoulders and leaned back against the couch once again, thinking. "I'm from Forks, Washington ... USA. It's a pretty small town so not really anyone has ever heard of it, so that's okay if you haven't heard of it either." A laugh, and she continued. "And ... my favourite thing to do? I don't ... know, really. I like a bunch of things, honestly. What about you? Where are you from?"

"Usa-chan likes you too," Honey said decisively, settling the rabbit into his lap after he sat down. He didn't think he'd ever needed the comfort of his plushie quite so much as he did here. Especially since Takashi couldn't be around all the time, he wasn't sure how else he'd cope.

He listened intently while she talked, but couldn't place a Forks, Washington. There were a lot of Washingtons in America, but there hadn't been a DC, so that meant the state, right?

"Mmmm I've been to Washington D.C. a few times before, does that count?" he tried with a smile. Even if he got good grades and traveled a lot, geography was still difficult and the US had so many states!

"I'm from Tokyo, but my family travels a lot, so I've visited America lots of times! My favorite things are cakes and sweets and anything cute, but especially bunnies. Oh! And playing with the Host Club members back home. It's one of the most popular clubs in our high school! Is Bella-chan in school too?" It wasn't nice to make assumptions about a lady's age, so Honey picked his words carefully. She didn't seem very old, maybe the same age as Takashi, so it was possible she'd graduated, but maybe she was still in high school too?

Bella smiled at the small rabbit, glad she had kept the child amused. "I've never been to Washington D.C, so let's just say that counts."

... But then everything went weird, and the teenager froze at the mention of ... high school? Her thoughts froze for a second before restarting once again, and she blanched, blinking a few times before opening and closing her mouth. "I ... graduated a few months ago from high school ... but wait. ... You're in high school?" A pause, and Bella frowned. "How old are you?"

A boy who looked like just that appeared to be older than he really was? It was like the opposite of a certain other boy she knew.

Honey let out a giggle and nodded. Washington D.C. was pretty, but his family was always there on business trips, training the military special ops and all that boring stuff. He didn't even get to take naps very often.

"It's nice there. America is soooo big!" he added.

Ooh, so Bella was just out of high school. He'd been pretty close! And he'd be at the same level pretty soon. Well, as soon as they got back home. And while it wasn't all that uncommon for people to be surprised about his age or his grade, Honey was used to it by now.

"Mmhmm!" he nodded enthusiastically. "Me and my best friend Takashi are in our Senior year. You might have seen him around here too. He's really really tall! Um... but I'm a few months older than him. I'm eighteen and he's seventeen. We'll be graduating this year too! It's exciting!"
