Night 47: M61-M70 Hallway

Feb 10, 2010 21:42

HK grabbed his weapons and left as soon as the door unlocked, wrenching it open with an uncommonly forceful motion and storming out. He had to go find Lugnut. This much was clear. He had to make sure the big, third-class intellect didn't get himself shot or starve, because he was the only droid left. Even if it came down to a maker-damned tug-of- ( Read more... )

[from M70]Ritsu doubted he would ever get used to the change this place underwent at night, to the strange, crackling intercom and the menacing “click” of the doors unlocking throughout the hall. The notion that it was even coming had been enough to start him trembling, and now he simply stared at the doorknob with wide, frightened eyes - as though he suspected the object itself of being a monster or sinister creature in disguise ( ... )

Even if Guy wasn't that enamored with the task that Luke had given him for the night, he was still going to get the chance to spend some time with Claude, so it could have been much worse. Like if he'd been sent with Asch to help him find a weapon. Not that either of them would have ever agreed to something like that, but it did put things into perspective ( ... )

Kirk listened to the Head Doctor's announcement in silence. It was hard not to notice Landel's cheeriness, a different sort from the benign overlord of their daylight hours - or his talkativeness. "P.A.I.L. FM"? "Mrs. Radio"? This was the most information the intercom had revealed since I.R.I.S. had stepped in.

Unfortunately, he also had the feeling that - unlike the previous nights - this information slip was deliberate. Whatever the case, it didn't change his plans for the night. He'd rediscovered a flashlight underneath his pillow (a new one? his previous? it was hard to check for marks in the darkness), but picked up the antique radio as well, stuffing it into the small pocket of his coat. Their experience so far was already unsettlingly too much like a game - if that was a hint, he'd take it.

As he stepped out, Kirk hefted the comforting weight of his flashlight in one hand, but chose to move through the halls in the dark. The lack of light was only slightly worse than it had been in the Narada, and he'd managed himself just ( ... )

More bickering between Landel and his invisible, and most likely imaginary, adversary. ZEX didn't trust anything he said, positive or negative. He could try to confuse them all he liked with this interpersonal "war", but ZEX wasn't fooled.

In the meantime, ZEX set his pen down and went to go change. At least he could get out of these dirty clothes. He still couldn't believe Sho had thrown his food at him! Some people, honestly.

Either way, his uniform as always made him feel better, tight and familiar even against unfamiliar skin, and his medals were a comforting weight. This, at least, was something that would not change. Evidence that his previous world really did exist... although come to think of it, Hayes hadn't seen him in his uniform yet, had he? That might come as a surprise to him, although hopefully he'd have some familiarity with VUX military dress.

He was still here, and those barely visible things were still in motion around him, and now all there was to do was wait.

Hayes really wished he knew more about knives from the perspective of the user. He might not even have bothered, the Admiral having promised to provide a more intuitive weapon, but he didn't trust these corridors anymore. There would be no going out unarmed, even to the cell next door, and this was a sight farther than that.

Fortunately, though, this particular excursion proved to be free of vicious puppets, at least between his own cell and ZEX's, and he was still quite undamaged and composed when he arrived to tap on the door. "Admiral?"

ZEX twitched a bit at the tap at the door. No, it hadn't been his imagination... whatever these things are, they seemed to only reside in the (barely) visual spectrum. Auditory hallucinations didn't seem to interest them.

Things had gotten so strange lately.

ZEX went to open the door, and could not help but pose a little when he pulled it open. He wasn't immune to his species' failings, and this was a rare opportunity to indulge his pride. Surely Hayes would recognize his uniform, if nothing else, and being recognized was precious here.

That, and ZEX was sure that he looked good in it.

It wouldn't have been hard to guess what the Admiral was wearing, even if Hayes had never seen similar outfits before- not often, but he had. It had clearly not been designed for the human form, and military decorations had certain common qualities across most species, usually to do with shininess.

Hayes would have been more surprised to see it if half those Starfleet people didn't seem to have their uniforms too, but though he chose not to comment, it was strange. It was so much closer to familiar than anything he'd seen in the past few days or was likely to see again that it was almost painful to think about.

So he made himself think about the night's errand, instead, and how they really should get to it. "Are you ready?" he asked, only a little raspiness in his voice indicating that his mind had been occupied with anything other than the mission.

Kagura was sure to check her cousin's door before moving on to Bridget's room, but Ritsu was nowhere to be found. She'd checked the room, checked the nearby hallways, but he was just gone. It was harder and harder to hold back tears as she hurried the last few steps to Bridget's room and knocked softly on the door. She'd completely forgotten to leave any messages, so what if he wasn't there either? What if they'd all abandoned her just like Hatori had?

She sniffled as she waited, hoping someone would answer the door.

He'd slept through the day and even dinner again! What was wring with him?!? As Bridget hurried to get ready, he was startled by a knock at the door.

He was even more startled when he opened it and saw Kagura nearly in tears. "Miss Sohma! Come inside! What happened? Are you alright?" He quickly stepped aside to let her in.

It was such a relief when the door opened and she saw Bridget's look of concern that she nearly threw her arms around his neck. But instead she nodded and took a few shaky steps inside, rubbing at the tears forming in the corners of her eyes. How could she have lost her cousin already?

"I can't... find Rit-chan," she managed, "he wasn't down the hall and... and he wasn't in his room and... I don't know what could have happened! What if they took him away or... or took him for those awful experiments?!"

"Shh. Calm down," he said gently, turning to grab the napkin off his table and holding it out to her. "I'm sure he's fine, wherever he is Miss Sohma. We'll go and look for him. If he's left his room on his own, he won't have gotten far." He carefully took her hand, wanting to hug her, but knowing that was out of the question.

"Okay?"
