Day 46: Sun Room

Dec 23, 2009 17:18

The previous shifts had offered much in the way of her own personal curiosity, but little in understanding the place she was in. Still, Renamon's mind had quieted; the irritation shifted into the back of her mind. Was it simply children that accomplished that? Or the kind of people that maintained their differences, and sated something in her. She ( Read more... )

Junpei was quiet and a bit fidgety, deciding not to think about his lunchtime with Evangeline. He'd just tuck that up on a mental shelf and deal with it later. Much, much later. He was restless, didn't want to be around people but also didn't want to be alone.

That meant he ended up in the Sun Room. The thoughts of going into the Music Room where it was much more cramped and people would be playing on a bunch of lame instruments was too much for the teen. He plopped down on a couch, propped his elbows on his knees and wondered what he should do come night. He probably should check and see how Minato was, but... he really didn't feel like being with his friends.

Thankfully, the nurses this time didn't force her into some poky little room with far too many people too close together which made her hungrier. Even if they were of no use to her as food, even though they would do nothing to soothe the hunger, they were still entirely too tempting and entirely too close to being easy pickings. The pizza at lunch hadn't helped. Why did they insist on cooking so much meat, even when the meal was not primarily meat.

Ugh.

The Sun Room was just that little bit more reassuring and soothing and much emptier at the moment. perhaps it was just that she'd left the cafeteria at the first opportunity. She couldn't see Heat or Roland or Gale, but she did spot Junpei sitting alone looking rather... what was the word? Dejected?

"Junpei?"

Hearing his name, Junpei looked up. "Oh, hey, Argilla."

He nodded for her to sit if she wanted to. "Whatcha up to?"

Argilla smiled slightly as she settled comfortably in the seat next to him, curling her legs up beneath her. One of the cats that was seated on the arm of the chair eyed her warily before hissing threateningly at her then turning tail and bolting across the room. She watched it impassively, wondering vaguely if humans ever felt the urge to chase them down like she did. Admittedly, the humans wouldn't want to end the chase by gnawing the flesh of the cat's bones she expected. Hmmm, maybe she'd find one tonight. Maybe she'd go after one of those birds tonight. They had more meat.

She pulled her attention back to Junpei and shrugged. "Sitting here," she replied simply, blinking slightly at the odd question. "Wondering how to find food tonight."

[You said you wanted a thread with Utena at some point? :3]Utena left lunch with buoyed spirits. Things were cleared up with Harley, Anthy was safe, and the memories of the previous day were already drifting further and further away in her mind. That last point especially was a relief for her. Utena wanted to make sure that "Yomi Takahashi" and her stable of false friends never stuck so much as a toe inside her head again. The only part of that life that was hard not to think about was "Antony." If her ideas about the visitors were right, then right now, Akio had been brainwashed into believing he really was Antony Jones. So similar to the real Akio, and yet with a more sinister side that she had never before witnessed. Just thinking about what "Antony" had supposedly done made her stomach twist in knots whenever it crossed her mind. Thankfully, the thought of rescuing Akio and escaping with him and Himemiya was able to push aside those uncomfortable thoughts for the time being ( ... )

Well, at least he wasn't so tired that he didn't want to respond to her. She even found herself laughing a little at his comment. "That could be fun too from the cat's point of view. Maybe not the pan thing, but the rest, sure. Running claws through things probably feels great to a cat," she said back, scratching the cat under its chin and laughing again as it rolled over onto its side in pure bliss.

"I know that if I had claws, there are a few ways I might want to 'rearrange Landel's furniture,' among other things," she added. Utena made a note to do some serious damage to the institute with her sword one of these nights. Normally, she wasn't one to vandalize anything, but for Martin Landel, she was willing to make an exception.

With her upcoming mission tonight, Teresa decided to take a few moments to rest considering she'd never get any in her room with that youma there. For the moment, she was going to let that creature continue its existence so she could eventually learn where the nest was. It was a calculated plan, her reduced abilities causing her to be far more cautious than she was comfortable with. Until she learned how the youma were affected by what was affecting her (assuming it wasn't simply because she was dead), she would need to hold her sword in check, so to speak. Though, once she had a sword, that would be a different matter.

Settling down on the floor with her back against a wall, Teresa crossed her arms and closed her eyes. The wall was no substitute for her sword, but it was far more comfortable than any of the soft couches would have been.

Suzaku always felt better after talking to Yuffie. Even when she was obviously bothered by something, she had a gift for brightening up his day. And the bit of info about the third floor might come in handy at some point. He was surprised he hadn't heard much about it yet, to be honest. Probably a result of getting so wrapped up in his personal problems that he neglected to do more research on the Institute.

At least he didn't have therapy this shift either, apparently. Neither did Lelouch, as he was over there talking to some girl. Suzaku didn't see Euphie yet, though, and he couldn't help wondering -- he wanted to talk to her at some point, and he felt a little impatient. (Not that he'd ever felt patient in his life.)

He did, however, catch sight of Teresa. He didn't really want to talk to her, not when she always did such a good job of unsettling him, but he nerved himself up to approach her anyway. "Hey," he said in greeting, hoping she hadn't been asleep. "Have you seen Euphie recently? Do you know, um, how she's

Though she heard Suzaku's approach, she did not open her eyes until he spoke to her.

"I saw her briefly last night," Teresa replied. "I believe she is doing better having gotten a good night's sleep. Most humans tend to need a good eight hours to be fully rested."

Suzaku breathed a little easier. Really, he should have kept an eye on her himself, but he'd been too busy dealing with "Brenflakes." Then again, there wasn't much a good night's sleep could do for the kind of trauma and heartache she must be feeling. Suzaku wasn't sure if Teresa could understand, she was so pragmatic.

"I'm glad. But I don't know if. . . I mean, it'll take a little more than that." Sighing, Suzaku sat down next to her. Maybe napping was a good idea. They all spent too much time running around frantically, not enough taking care of their bodies. It was no wonder they were so on edge emotionally.

As fun as the music room sounded, Honey was worried that no one had been answering the call for Cake Club. He decided to stick around in the Sun Room just in case. He could be close by the bulletin that way so that he wouldn't miss it if one of his friends or someone new responded.

After checking the bulletin one more time, he decided to see if he couldn't track down some of the kittens that seemed to frequent the Sun Room. There was a basket with several and he crouched near it, just watching them for a while as he hugged Usa-chan.

What a day. His high had subsided to a weird....place. Mentally. Certainly he was still thrilled with the breakthrough between Ritsuka and himself. Minus the embarrassment of yesterday's outburst. The one about... oh, he couldn't even think about it without his head spinning and his cheeks getting warm.

But he didn't want Ritsuka to think that... that he and....

Soubi gave up. His lunch with Sheena had been a mix of up and down that, sadly, opened up fresh wounds. Still. There was something that could brighten his day and make him feel like a good person. And that was the young looking boy by the kittens.

Soubi crouched beside Honey and looked at the basket.

Honey glanced up when another person joined him and a soft smile broke across his features as he tilted his head, glad to see that his friend was doing alright. Soubi had seemed kind of down the last few days, so he hoped things were better or that the man would let him help if they weren't.

"Sou-chan!" he said excitedly, standing up straight so he could reach over and put his arms around Soubi's neck to give him a squeeze.

"I missed you!"

Soubi grinned and gave Honey a hug, laughing.

"You did? I missed you too."

He sat on the floor and patted the space next to him so they could stay close to the kittens and think about how cute Ritsuka was.

"Have you been well?" he asked. It would be awful for this place to play it's worst tricks on Honey. It was bad enough it happened to Ritsuka, but... Ritsuka was strong and he had Soubi.

[You called, Foxface? 8D]

Okay, so Gabriel had been a little weird but pretty nice, and who was he to judge whether humans were weird or not? They were always weird to him!

The nurse had said he was supposed to go to somewhere he wasn't paying attention to, but that plan was completely derailed when he saw Renamon sitting off by herself. Whatever the nurse had said he should do was completely forgotten as he suddenly changed course, heading for his friend.

"Hey! Renamon!" He greeted the other Digimon happily, totally ignoring his nurse's admonishments. "How ya doin'?" He gave her a big, happy grin.

The greeting caused Renamon to pause in her musing glancing upwards as she recognized the voice. The Mega's enthusiasm was almost catching, and she found herself returning his grin with a small smile of her own. It had been too long since she had seen someone this familiar. And even with his penchant for finding a way to get into some kind of trouble, he looked well. As well as one could be. She was glad. She wouldn't want anything to happen that would diminish his natural stubbornness. Or obstinance, at times.

"Beelzemon," there was some affection in the word. "It's good to see you." The Rookie shifted, making room on the couch. "I'm well. And you?" She raised an eyebrow, something teasing in the look. "You seem like you're doing fine."

"Haven' seen ya in a couple days. I, uh..." he looked embarrassed and more than a little pissed off for a moment. "They messed with my head yesterday like all those other people. 'm glad that's over, it sucked!" And his tongue still hurt from where his human self had spaced out and bit down on it. He sort of just wanted to go back in time and punch himself.

"Eh, you know how it is. Something whallops me, I get right back up an' hit back." With a lot of yelling and no plan whatsoever.

He, too. Renamon stared for a moment, expression unfathomable. This was too close to be anything comfortable. Renamon had seen the effects of Sakura changing to Courtney--How would Beelzemon have been, as a normal human? Renamon couldn't imagine it at all. And for once, the informative Digimon didn't have any inclination to ask. It was over now. And only because of that, did she let it go, abstract questions wondering if there had been a pattern. Ghosts in the machine, perhaps; she was starting to doubt the infallibility of that.

She started to open her mouth to say something, but instead he continued, being his normal self. And what would she have said? Something he wouldn't have liked, for certain. Renamon gave him a look instead, the teasing light smaller behind her eyes. "That is you," she said dryly. "I'd be disappointed if you fell so easily." Because that is what she should say. Because there was something comforting in this kind of interaction.
