Day 46: Sun Room

Dec 23, 2009 17:18

The previous shifts had offered much in the way of her own personal curiosity, but little in understanding the place she was in. Still, Renamon's mind had quieted; the irritation shifted into the back of her mind. Was it simply children that accomplished that? Or the kind of people that maintained their differences, and sated something in her. She ( Read more... )

Though the mass of people seemed to be going in a different direction, Luke decided to go check out the bulletin board after leaving Anise. Now that he had more information, he knew what to look for. A lot of the notes were asking after people, wondering if they were okay, but he took particular note of the one about the dangerous places at night. He considered adding up that the basement counted, but decided to keep himself out of it-for now.

When he turned, he noticed Asch, and remembered that he wanted to leave him a note if he didn't see him. His day hadn't been busy, but he had been inundated by so much new information that he had forgotten that. Seeing him now, Luke was glad that he didn't have to go to the task of realizing he had forgotten ( ... )

Damnit, was there a way of communicating with him that worked out? Luke faltered because his plan hadn't worked out; it just turned into whether he was useful or not. It always seemed to return to that, and he still wasn't sure why. They had already fought about this, they had already come to terms, but it seemed that Asch was no different from the rest of the God-Generals. Truthfully, it would be too much to ask him to let it go, but he wanted him to accept him, or at least not continue down this path. Asch had let him go on to fight Master Van; here, though, it seemed the same, as if he didn't want to acknowledge that.

Or, perhaps, it was too hard. Luke wondered if he would be able to deal with having lost that fight, if he had failed to prove himself. Then again, he was different. If he had failed, would he have just given up? Would he have seen it the same way? A part of him probably would have, but in the long term, he knew his friends wouldn't want him to be like that. Of course, it was all hypothetical, as it hadn't ended ( ... )

The nurse apparently wanted her to go into some other room, but Mele was sitting down right here and if little Nurse wanted Mele to move, she was going to have to bodily pick her up and haul her there.

Didn't think so, Mele thought as the nurse only sighed and moved away.

Inevitability, lack of choice. At some point, Mele had wondered if there had been something in the food that had made her susceptible to whatever it was Landel had done. But if the patients stopped eating, they'd be at the mercy of Landel anyway. They couldn't win. They just couldn't win.

[Do you mind?]

Scar wasn't particularly fond of being taken to a room where humans decided to create noise, so he requested to be left within the Sun room. The nurse had no objections as long as he would sit on a couch rather than the floor. Almost begrudgingly he moved over to the nearest of these ridiculous pieces of furniture and sat down. Satisfied, she finally left.

Only then he glanced around and noticed who he was sitting next to. "Ah, good afternoon."

[\o/!!]

"...Afternoon," Mele mumbled.

Oh, Landel. When she got hold of him (screw however many were lining up to kill him, she'd elbow her way to the front somehow), she was going to rip something off him and then...feed it to something.

"...You remind me of someone," she said. "Someone who-" Who I am immensely worried about right now. You didn't happen to have been listening to a strange voice (or a strange golden-haired guy) to come over here, did you? "...Who I...have to return to," she finished lamely.

That was sudden. He hadn't seen those words coming, at least. Was she someone who knew of him somehow? But the thought was soon dismissed after she finished speaking. If that had been true, Mele wouldn't have needed to return to him. Another person, then. Hmm...

"...I see," he answered after a pause. "Who do I remind you of, then?" There was little else to ask, after all.

Lunch had been fun, and Wally had eaten just enough to take the worst of his ever-present hunger away, so he wasn't feeling too bad when the nurse led him out of the cafeteria. The music room was where they were supposed to be but... Wally was still hopeful that he'd be able to spot Bats or Bart at some point, so he picked a seat in the sun room instead. Chances were that he'd just be sitting around chatting with people anyway, so the scenery didn't bother him so much ( ... )

After all that time pretending he hadn't known about the deal, Sam should've felt a lot more relieved that it was out in the open, but all that was happening now was that it felt like the tension had just-shifted ( ... )

Wally glanced up at the question, and grinned broadly when he saw Matt from last night. "Hey, I was wondering what had happened to you," he said, swinging his legs off the couch and sitting up properly. He gestured to the couch, inviting the other guy to take a seat.

"How're you holding up? Not too weired out by last night?" It looked like the nurses or whoever had done a pretty neat job with taking care of Matt's injuries, which was good. Wally didn't want to imagine what things would be like if the patients had to do all of that themselves. He wasn't going to fool himself about how effective his sheet bandage was.

"No, I'm fine."

Sam took a seat, feeling a different kind of awkwardness than he'd had with Teresa. At least she hadn't seen him sort of...freak out. Last night, it was embarrassing. Not on any particularly extreme level, but still. There was really no other way to describe it.

Though in addition to that, Wally was just an intriguing case. Sam would prefer it a lot if Dean never found out some guy had picked him up and carried him halfway down the hall, but there was no denying to himself that it'd happened. Or. He was pretty sure, anyway. It was possible that he-Matthew-had imagined it out of panic. But given the circumstances, what were the chances? He could at least investigate. Wally seemed nice enough, so the worst that could happen was that Sam would get shut down ( ... )

Hokuto's first stop after lunch was the bulletin board; it proved fruitless, since Hitsugaya hadn't posted yet. Then again, she wasn't sure she was actually up for a mission tonight, after... everything. She collapsed onto a couch, figuring Falis could find her this time. She was worn out for a lot of reasons, and people-watching was always fun.

At least, except for one nagging little fear. Where was Subaru?

[[For her princess.]]

When Falis' eyes fell upon her girlfriend from across the room. She ground her teeth together, angry at herself for having been weak enough to fall to the brainwashing. She'd put Hokuto through a lot. Falis hated Rose, despised her weakness and pathetic fear of herself. It was insulting for this place to have turned her into that. And Hokuto had to see it. Had to deal with it. Well, it was done and over with now. Time to fix something and to hell with the fucking vultures around.

Without hesitation, Falis went directly to her girlfriend, took Hokuto's chin in one hand to tilt the girl's head up in the same motion she straddled the girl's legs. Then, before Hokuto could say anything, Falis claimed her lips in a very thorough kiss that was most likely going to get them both in trouble if it lasted more than a few seconds.

Falis didn't care.

Hokuto was certainly surprised, but after only the slightest of hesitations she kissed back with definite passion. She didn't hold anything Rose had done against Falis; all she cared about was that her girl was back.

Before the staff could change that, she broke the kiss and just hugged the princess tight. "Missed you," she whispered.

"Forget about her; she doesn't exist," Falis said in a low voice, holding Hokuto close until she heard the distinctive cough of a circling vulture. The hunter's eyes found the carrion creature and she narrowed them, tensing up for a moment as if she was about to spring at the nurse.

A moment later and the tension left her body. Falis shifted off of Hokuto and leaned back into the corner of the couch and beckoned to Hokuto.

Alright, so today had sorta sucked. A lot. But, and this was a super-massive and important but, Yuffie just had to remember one of her guiding principles: don't sweat the small stuff. The small stuff could be anything, from spilled milk to spilled blood, from zombie hordes to doomsday and beyond; it didn't matter. What did matter was that the Great Ninja Yuffie, White Rose of Wutai and fire amongst the ashes, always pulled through in the end. Always.

No matter what this place threw at her, she had a responsibility to herself and to her people. As long as she could keep that just as firmly in heart as it was in mind, she could smile. And she did smile, right then and there, and then she cupped her hands around her mouth and called, "Fuzzbutt! Hey, Fuzzbutt! C'mere! Where's my scrawny lil' monster bait, huh?"

A black and white blur shot out from behind one of the couches, darting and weaving and only barely avoiding a head-on collision with everything in its path. Yuffie laughed as her favorite came running, full-tilt and meowing ( ... )

Dean was gonna keep an eye on Sam. Seemed to be the best thing to do, since obviously he wasn't taking the talk back there well.

But Sam didn't like it when he hovered too much and Dean kept back, making sure the kid was in eyesight and just within ear-shot and while he didn't think anything was gonna go down during the day like this, there was always that paranoid just in case in his head. Still, he could give Sam some space, which really just meant looking busy but not that busy.

"Think the cat's trying to cop a feel," Dean said, pasting on a grin. "Better watch out, some of 'em are real bitchy."

"He's got good taste."

Yuffie finally pried the last claw loose, being as careful as she knew how. She brought the tiny cat to her nose, bopped hers against his. "You're not bitchy, are ya, Fuzzbutt?" The kitten, purring up a storm, wriggled out of her hand and onto her arm, and from there, onto her head. Geez… If she had one weakness that didn’t begin with the letters W, A, or M, then it was kittens. Cute, furry, none-drooling mutant beasts from hell-type kittens.

At last she swung around, mindful of the kitten's precarious perch, arms loose by her sides. Dean, huh? Not somebody she'd expected to see again so (relatively) soon. And after that whole mess with the memories thing, she'd been sorta hoping for a bit more time to work things out. "You're not lookin' too roughed up today," she greeted lightly, raising an eyebrow. Makes a change. Or maybe it's role reversal.

"I'm doing a lot better about that," Dean said, flicking a glance at Sam. "Haven't run into any walls recently. Real proud of myself."

He eyed the cat on Yuffie's head and he had to say, she was totally setting herself up for a scratch right in the eyes sooner or later. Somehow he didn't think that kitten was gonna be happy to stay all day on there was a hat. Dean winced at the disaster waiting to happen. He still didn't know what to make of Yuffie - all he knew was he was on the wrong foot and off-balance and right now he didn't need this on top of everything else.
