Day 43: Game Room (4th Shift)

Aug 23, 2009 00:10

Brainiac 5 had been planning to spend some more time in the sun room in order to check up on his attempt to gather more information about the different technology levels people were familiar with and to think about what his ancestor had said to him (not to mention try and keep an eye on Peter's activities before he did something else monumentally ( Read more... )

[Happy fun date timez!]

Soubi was first in the games room it seemed. He found a quiet spot and sat down. He fiddled with the corner of a box. He hugged his knees. He rested his head on them and sighed. There was just no chance of a break here, was there? One thing after another.

No. Maybe he'd read wrong. Maybe it was....'Seismic activities' that kio had crossed out and feared Soubi was in denial of earthquakes!

Yeah right.

Maybe Honey would help Ritsuka be a real, carefree child for a while. That would cheer Soubi up. And Ritsuka was never to know about this day. Kio might not shut up about some things, but Soubi was making sure he shut up about THIS.

Lunch had been a nice change of pace and it was great to see that everyone was getting along and in such good spirits. It sure made it a lot easier to be cheerful, even if there were lots of other things to worry about.

Honey made sure his nurse knew he wanted to go to the games room for the last shift of the day; he'd promised Soubi after all. It'd been a little while since he'd seen the man and he hoped that everything was okay with him too.

It didn't take long for him to spot Soubi. He was sitting alone, resting maybe, but he did look kind of sad. Honey bounded over, leaving his nurse behind and climbed up next to the man. It was hard to give him a hug, sitting as he was, but Honey wrapped his arms around Soubi's knees and rested his head near the man's face.

"Oh no, I'm late for our date!" he said with a pout. "I made you wait a long time, didn't I? Don't be sad Sou-chan, I didn't mean to!"

Soubi was a little surprised when he was suddenly hugged and, for a moment, he hoped it was Ritsuka, even thought he knew how terribly unlikely it was.
Still, this was the next best thing.

Soubi adjusted them both quite easily and gave Honey a long hug, but his his sigh. With a practiced smile, he released Honey and looked at him.

"Not at all, I must just be a little sleepy. It's been quite a dull day, really. besides, we're still waiting for one," he winked. He hoped Ritsuka hadn't forgotten. Or decided he hated Soubi. Or found out about...seismic activities.

Honey might appear naive and innocent, but it didn't mean he wasn't intuitive and intelligent. No one, least of all the people who weren't accustomed to it, could be just fine in a place like this. But he smiled back all the same and let go, cuddling Usa-chan instead as he sat beside Soubi.

"I'm glad to see you! Hnnn... well maybe while we wait, we can pick what to play. What kind of games do you like Sou-chan?"

[For his Kni~ght! Hm. Disturbing.]

Ryuk's nurse finally relented and left him by the door of the Games Room in his Wheelie Chair.

"You wait here and maybe some nice patient will come and play with you?" she said in her sweetly stern way before leaving.

Ryuk couldn't believe they didn't trust him on his own. You batter ONE tree and suddenly you're the bad guy. If they'd just given him a goddamn apple like he'd asked.

Still. He'd had one today. Swallowed a few clumps of meat (whole) and they'd given him a nice sliced....green apple. They were sick. This was torture! No red apples and no games. Talk about hell.

Ryuk watched the people in the room everytime he could see in, craning his sore neck to find a game boy.

"Hey, hey! Come on. Someone's gotta take me in there!"

[D: That is disturbing. After lunch, Mori felt a little better. Everyone seemed to be doing well and that left Mitsukuni in high spirits, which put Mori in high spirits, too. Seeing this place wear on his cousin was difficult on him; knowing that he couldn't do much to change the situation. He wanted to make sure Mitsukuni was doing alright, but when he had nurses breathing down his neck, it was hard. He couldn't follow Mitsukuni into the bathroom to make sure he brushed his teeth, or make sure he ate his dinner along with the desserts, or even get him a balanced meal in case he wasn't ( ... )

"Alright, about time!" Ryuk smiled, holding onto the chair with his good arm and sitting forward as if it'd speed things up. He'd check the guy's name out in a minute, didn't fancy straining his neck.

"Gotta be quick and see if there's any game boys, ok?" he ordered, thoughtlessly.

Well, the stranger was definitely raring to go. Mori quirked an eyebrow but said nothing as he pushed the other guy into the game room, positioning him near a comfortable looking chair and a table before going off to see about a game boy. While he didn't mind getting ordered around by his friends (because he was likely going to do what they asked anyway), getting bossed about by a commoner was new. Maybe the guy wasn't a commoner though. But judging by his language? Probably...

Eh, probably didn't matter.

Mori located a game boy and a few games (nothing too interesting or new, he realized), and brought them back to the stranger, holding them out to the guy. He looked pretty beat up, possibly from the scuffle last night or maybe from the day before. Whatever it was, Mori wondered why he hadn't been allowed in by himself.

Tenzen listened to the announcement with curiosity. These certainly became stranger as the day progressed. However, any consideration on them was rather short-lived as one of the so-called nurses saw fit to approach him, obviously having other plans than simply leaving him be. Apparently, she heavily disapproved of the fact that he was sitting by himself, therefore she opted to usher him to another location so that he could make more 'friends' (the idea was rather amusing, he supposed). And for reasons Tenzen couldn't even begin to comprehend, it was a location called the game room. Of all places, she had ushered him into a place filled with silly games"Why don't you take a seat, Mr. Hayami?" the nurse suggested, seemingly oblivious to her charge's disapproval. "Maybe someone will play a game with you ( ... )

Okita left the courtyard with mixed feelings. He didn't feel particularly better, but he didn't feel any worse and things had been somewhat resolved, so that was that, perhaps. It was still a bit awkward and would likely be so until the swordsman got his feet under him again, but he had some time. He was particularly adept at fast recoveries; for most things, at least. And some time apart from emotional things would certainly clear his head, and perhaps give him some time to consider what the latest announcement meant. Landel's continued absence was worrisome, but at least they were picking up more information ( ... )

Several more patients had entered the room, going about their own business. And as he observed them, Tenzen contemplated the meaning behind the announcements. Were the rumors true and was the ringleader truly dead? Or was it a ruse? But even with this Martin Landel's death, it hardly seemed to make any differences no matter the curiosities the voice seemed to be spilling; their was still the presence of an enemy.

Eventually, he noticed a stranger approach him, yet he only responded when the other tapped him on the shoulder with a pack of cards.

"Is that so?" he replied simply. "And why would that be?" He wasn't expected to partake in these silly games, was he?

"Because it's a game room, silly." Without waiting for an invitation, Okita pulled a chair up next to his newest playmate and sat down, pulling the cards out of the pack. He still hadn't been taught many card games since coming here, but he knew at least one simple game. The only problem was whether or not this stranger was willing to play after Okita had interrupted his thoughts.

The man was rather stern looking, with long hair and calculating eyes; the likes of which Okita hadn't seen in a long while. People everywhere here had that sharpness to their eyes, but there was something familiar here. It was the same sort of look that all men of his era had, the sort that always sought for the best opening. Okita liked that look in people. It reminded him of home.

Shuffling the cards idly, Okita divided the deck in half and held it out to the other man, smiling pleasantly. "So will you play? I'm afraid I don't know many games, but I have learned one since coming here."

((Closed for Sora!))

So, the situation seemed rather clear-cut to Joshua. He had a week to take over the Institute, or he was going to have to fight against Minamimoto all over again. How wonderful was that? And the Reaper had tried to pretend that he was the Composer in the Game... well, hubris was most certainly his fatal flaw, and Joshua was too unflappable to be faked out by such a transparent attempt to shift initiative.

However, the problem still remained. He had few options, few contacts, little power, and no real leads. This put him at a distinct disadvantage when compared to the majority of the other patients. That, with the fact that he had fewer marketable skills, meant that he'd have to think of something. But what? For now, he walked about aimlessly, gnawing at his lip as he considered a plan of attack. What he needed was a good, gullible, well-connected person he could guilt into helping him out...

Getting to stretch his legs out on the field had Sora energized, and so he almost considered heading out to the courtyard for the final shift of the day so that he could spend some more time outside. In the end, though, he decided on the Game Room -- he'd gotten pretty fond of the Game Boys and he knew he'd have a better chance of getting his hands on one during their free choice day. When the whole patient population was sent there, chances were other people were going to snatch them up before him ( ... )

...well, that wasn't a question that Joshua could say that he heard all that tremendously often. Usually the question was more along the lines of 'Why did you do such-and-such!?' The blond stared at Sora for a moment, adopting a thoughtful expression as he tried to think. It couldn't have been for long, or else he'd have remembered right off the bat, but that odd hair and earnest voice were rather distinctive.

Then recognition dawned. "Ah, Sora, was it? You seem to be doing well." In one piece, which was a little bit more than his last snappish thought had been. Still, it seemed like a solution to his problems might just have presented itself. With a sigh, he added, "A little better than myself, anyway."

Glad to hear that Joshua hadn't already pushed him out of his mind, Sora smiled and nodded when the boy came out with his name. "That's right!" he confirmed. As for doing well, he figured he couldn't complain. His neck wound wasn't hurting him as much as it had when he'd first woken up, and there was still no sign of any weird infection like some people had been complaining of, so it looked like he'd gotten off easy.

His thoughts were quickly drawn away from that when Joshua implied that he wasn't faring as well. Most people weren't willing to admit when things were tough for them, so chances were that the other boy really needed someone to talk to right now. Hopefully he'd be willing to open up to someone he barely knew...

"Did something happen?" Sora asked with a frown, shifting his Game Boy from one hand to the other. "Are you all right?"

After speaking with Hanatarou the previous shift, Brook felt much more confident about himself not turning into a flesh-eating zombie. His nurse even commented about how good just talking with someone had done him as she left him in the next room. Games were an excellent ground-breaker for conversation - not quite as excellent at music, but Brook had already spent his time in the music room for the day. He had to change things up ( ... )
