Night 42: Twin Pines

Jul 19, 2009 12:51

Being inside a building, the setting of the sun was not as prevalent as it would have been outdoors. Beatrix had enjoyed a pleasant meal alone after she had left the elf and her companion outside. She'd just been getting up, folding her napkin to set on her plate at the behest of her nurse, then the change came. Being right next to her nurse, it ( Read more... )

The day had been pleasant. It's been relaxing. It'd been an awesome date with his smokin' hot girlfriend. It had been too good to be true.

Junpei's eyes went wide as he witnessed the change in the people around him. He was frozen in disbelief for a few moments before a sudden flash of light and an exclamation of surprise drew his attention from the zombie that had just cleared his plates (before she went zombie) to the fact that his girlfriend wasn't there< anymore.

Standing up so fast his chair went flying back, Junpei jumped over the table to where Chidori has just been. "Chidori!" There was nothing there. He could feel her presence inside him, like always, but her body wasn't there. "CHIDORI!" What had happened to his girlfriend?

The wailing of zombies way too close forced the teen to realize he was in very real danger. A part of him didn't care with Chidori gone, but the warmth he could feel in the chest, the part that was her, told him he had to care ( ... )

Today sucked. So of course, instead of getting better, it had to get worse. It was hard to forget the blood and fog from the night before, but that was nothing compared to the instantaneous change that happened now. Maybe it was more of an omen, even, although Adachi didn't like to believe in those.

Worse than seeing what became of the walls was what became of the townspeople. Zombies. Fucking zombies. Hadn't the doctor mentioned a little game the night before? This definitely seemed more like one than the way things had turned out with the blood and fog.

Being a cop sure didn't mean Adachi was prepared for a zombie apocalypse, especially since he didn't even have a gun with him, so he did what any logical and unprepared detective would do: he dove under the table. That screaming had to be coming from someone else at the table, certainly not him.

She'd heard rumors on the bus ride over, and the bulletin had been filled with contingency plans. They'd all assumed that the trouble would start after the bus ride back, or at earliest, during.

Assumptions get you killed. No battle plan survives contact with the enemy. Or maybe We have met the enemy and they is us. Either way, they were in openly hostile territory, and they had one panicked civilian, and one -- wait, where was Mr. von Karma? He'd been there a moment ago.

Mole, operative, or just inhumanly fast at getting out of a bad situation? It didn't matter. It couldn't matter. One woman was already in motion towards the kitchen, another man to the doors. She grabbed the steak knives and forks from both her plate and von Karma's. One knife she flung at an approaching shambling wreck of a human being; she thought it might be the waitress who had brought them food, coming back for their order. It didn't slow her down; just lodged in her chest, handle bobbing with each strange step she took.

That new chick seemed to be perfectly fine taking things into her own hands, and was already chucking things at the zombies. It was kind of insulting, but for now he was fine taking advantage of the chaos.

Scrambling out from under the table, Adachi rushed headlong for the door, only fully straightening when he got there. He'd heard what that other woman had shouted, but if there was limited access, everyone else would probably be swarming the kitchen for knives. There had to be other places that he could get a decent weapon from, and he had to just get out. He wasn't getting trapped and killed by zombies in a restaurant.

Callisto remained where she was, noting with a raised eyebrow the disappearance of the old man and the cowardly actions of Adachi. Her interest in him waned slightly, and she watched him flee the place with little more than a dispassionate glance.

Of course all the townspeople belonged to Landel. Their transformation shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone. She watched the assassin and the woman at her table begin fighting them off, but only bothered with them herself when they cam close enough for her to slam a foot into their skull. It didn't matter how many of them there were if they were all this weak. She'd seen one warrior take out platoons of men far stronger than this. Landel was simply trying to scare them.

"Messy, isn't it?" she asked Taura idly.

Chise couldn't believe what was happening before her very eyes. Just a few seconds ago she and Luffy were having a nice little conversation about nakama(while he gobbled up his steak) in a nice little restaurant. Then, the entire place started to decay. Huge cracks appeared on the black stained walls, window frames twisted into distorted shapes, and the nurses mutated into monsters with unnatural figures. But to Chise, the worst of all were the townspeople; people that worked in the restaurant. Their skins turned into a grimy shade of gray that sagged, revealing the rotten flesh and bones underneath as they walked ( ... )

Luffy blinked as his chair suddenly sagged and everything changed. He looked around, seeing the same crazy things Chise saw, and was glad he at least got a chance to finish off his food.

"Kind of!" he answered as he threw his own empty plate at another monster. With how composed he was, though, Luffy acted like this sort of thing was normal conversation. "The Cat Ladies changed while we were on the buses a couple weeks ago, but this sure didn't happen!"

As for what they should do, well...obviously sitting in the booth wasn't such a great idea. But then someone shouted that the kitchen was clear, and Luffy tilted the brim of his hat back with a grin. "Let's go back there!" he said, pointing. "Get some stuff, and then go!"

The day's frustration had been slowly seeping out of Kurogane as the evening had neared, but Kurogane was quick to remember it once the zombies decided to make their presence known. Something to fight was just what he had needed, so he didn't care that this was not the building. So long as he would be able to vent some excess anger, Kurogane would fight wherever and with whatever ( ... )

Cat Ladies? Oh, he must meant the nurses. Luffy had a strange way of naming things, but now wasn't the time to find that out.

With the way Luffy was grinning, it gave Chise an impression that he was ready to blast through anything that got in his way. She couldn't understand how he managed to remain calm and energetic in this dangerous situation. She could hear a voice(of human intuition) in the back of her head telling her that if she stayed close to him, everything would turn out okay. "Okay!" she agreed with Luffy after throwing her cup at another zombie.

Just then, Chise heard a familiar voice calling out to them. Turning around, it was none other than Kurogane the grumpy bear! "M-Mr. Kuro, what are you doing here?!" she yelled back.

Announcement to all Twin Pines customers! quickdrawbkiddo July 19 2009, 21:34:55 UTC
Beatrix wasted no time in leaving the kitchen once the zombies inside were dead. Once back in the main dining room, she jumped up onto the nearest table, a pair of gore covered butcher knives in her hands.

"The kitchen is clear with limited access," she yelled out to everyone that wasn't a mindless zombie. "I suggest making use of it."

She didn't stick around, dropping off the table to head toward the exit. A pair of zombies met their end as she passed by, one being thrown back onto a nearby table. She was done with the restaurant.

The sedatives in Endrance's system made everything appear to be going in slow motion. It was like watching a horror movie frame by frame, and the frames moved too slowly to make a coherent picture. One moment, the afternoon sun was beaming through the windows while he spoke with Tsukasa, and the next...

There weren't words to describe it. He couldn't react fast enough to be of any use in the fight against the...what were they? There certainly weren't monsters like that in The World. Even if he did have his normal reaction time, he was in no shape to fight for an extended period of time.

Still...the blonde woman wasn't wrong. Who knew what else might be lurking? It was with slow, careful steps that he walked into the kitchen, taking a pair of knives with him and then carefully moving back. "Tsukasa? I...I'd like to ask a favor, if you can."

The sight of night falling and the shambling terrifying creatures which came with the darkness left Tsukasa frozen to his seat for several moments, staring in shock and horror at what had once been people. He felt bile rising in his throat, true fear growing within him. It was one thing to face a creature made of data, it had just been a game last night, but with higher stakes and now... now it was sickeningly terrifyingly real.

He only snapped back to reality when Endrance spoke to him and he looked at his friend, nodding dumbly. "Okay," he agreed, voice quiet and shaking.

"I hate to ask you this, but..." He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. "Do you think you're able to cast anything?" It was a lot to ask after last night, and he knew it, but there really wasn't any other choice but to ask that.

"In particular...if you think you can and it's not going to wear you out for the rest of the night, if you can cast a healing spell, I would truly appreciate it." The words still came out slurred thanks to the sedatives, but...they had to be said nonetheless. Even if all the spell did was clear out some of the drugs in his system, that would be enough.

"I can't do anything to defend either of us in the condition I'm in. Things are clear for the moment, but that could change, so..."

Tsukasa thought for a moment before nodding seriously. "I can heal," he replied, determination in his gaze. He would do it. He'd be tired afterwards he was sure, but if they couldn't fight, then he was fairly sure they'd be a lot worse than tired very soon and he wasn't going to let that happen. "You're a fighter, I'm not. I'd rather see you in top condition. I can deal with being a little tired." Endrance could defend them, Tsukasa couldn't.

He gulped the last of his drink, figuring that any energy he could get would be a good idea now before anything got inside (oh god there were zombies and they were outside and every horror movie Tsukasa had ever seen came flooding back in hideous clarity). He held a hand out towards Endrance, narrowing his eyes as he focussed. "Repth," he whispered. The spell ripped out of him, a glow surrounding Endrance and the mad thought that it really did look like it did in the game flashed through Tsukasa's mind. It lasted for a few moments before He slumped a little, the glow vanishing, and he squeezed ( ... )
