Night 42: Twin Pines

Being inside a building, the setting of the sun was not as prevalent as it would have been outdoors. Beatrix had enjoyed a pleasant meal alone after she had left the elf and her companion outside. She'd just been getting up, folding her napkin to set on her plate at the behest of her nurse, then the change came. Being right next to her nurse, it ( Read more... )

Tsukasa thought for a moment before nodding seriously. "I can heal," he replied, determination in his gaze. He would do it. He'd be tired afterwards he was sure, but if they couldn't fight, then he was fairly sure they'd be a lot worse than tired very soon and he wasn't going to let that happen. "You're a fighter, I'm not. I'd rather see you in top condition. I can deal with being a little tired." Endrance could defend them, Tsukasa couldn't.

He gulped the last of his drink, figuring that any energy he could get would be a good idea now before anything got inside (oh god there were zombies and they were outside and every horror movie Tsukasa had ever seen came flooding back in hideous clarity). He held a hand out towards Endrance, narrowing his eyes as he focussed. "Repth," he whispered. The spell ripped out of him, a glow surrounding Endrance and the mad thought that it really did look like it did in the game flashed through Tsukasa's mind. It lasted for a few moments before He slumped a little, the glow vanishing, and he squeezed his eyes shut for a moment to ward off the headache. Finally he looked back up at Endrance again. "Better?"

Endrance felt the familiar warm green light move over him as the spell was cast, opening his eyes and nodding once. Things were still fuzzy around the edges, but the more important thing was that the damage he'd taken over the past two nights felt a little better. He wouldn't say he was at 100 percent strength, but it was definitely better than before. "Thank you...yes, that's better," he said, with a nod and a brief smile.

It wasn't a moment too soon, either, as one of the creatures staggered in from the front door. The feel of having a long chef's knife on hand as opposed to a longer, thinner blade was different, yes, but the approach he took towards it was still largely the same - careful steps to avoid flailing limbs, then one quick stab to its abdomen. Endrance wrinkled his nose at the mess the zombie left behind, then stepped back, wrapping up the second knife he'd taken in a set of cloth napkins and carefully tucking that into the waistband of his pants. It wasn't terribly elegant, but would do for now.

"How are you holding up?", he called back, keeping an eye out for anything else.

He felt a little sick once the spell had been cast, but not enough that he couldn't ignore it. "I'm glad," he said, smiling weakly at the older boy. As long as Endrance could fight, they probably had a better chance of escaping. The relief was short lived however when one of the zombies staggered in towards them. Tsukasa ducked off into a corner, out of Endrance's way, words of another spell on his lips automatically, forcing himself not to use it.

Only when it seemed that Endrance was managing to take care of it did Tsukasa duck back into the kitchen, looking around for something to use as a weapon. Knives were good, and he grabbed a long one, nothing too heavy because if he was using it a lot, his arm would get tired. Haseo could take it if they found him. No, when they found him. But for himself, while he wished for a staff, he couldn't imagine a broom handle doing very much damage so he grabbed a solid looking frying pan instead.

"I'm fine," he called back before emerging, pan clutched in both hands. "Should we barricade the door?"

Endrance glanced around for a moment, trying to assess the situation. It looked as if the taller of the two women in the back was trying to do the same, and he hummed thoughtfully. He took a look out of one of the windows, then recoiled a moment later as one of the creatures pressed what was left of his face up to the glass, stumbling back and knocking a table over with a loud clatter.

"I..." He paused, trying to clear his head enough to think with any kind of strategy. "I don't know. I think someone may be trying it? But I'm concerned about the others..."

Tsukasa glanced back at the two women himself and his eyes widened as he saw some of the zombies begin to rise again, starting to advance once more. They were pressing against the glass windows too and Tsukasa didn't like the chances of the windows holding up against a lot of pressure. They could be so easily smashed and there were too many ways in.

"We'd need to barricade all of the windows too," he said quietly to Endrance. "Maybe we should find Haseo and Leon. I don't know if it's a good idea to trap ourselves in here."

Endrance opened his mouth to reply, then stopped, catching a disturbing sight out of the corner of one eye. How in the world had that creature gotten back up after the stomach wound? He grimaced and then turned towards it, aiming that knife at the zombie's temple. The Blade Brandier winced and shuddered at the sound of the knife crunching against bone, then withdrew it, shivering. If that didn't take it out, he wasn't sure what would, but at least it had fallen for the moment.

This wasn't anything like the fight last night had been - it was bloodier, more visceral. Even the amplification AIDA had provided hadn't made things feel like this.

"I think you're right," he said, in a quiet, determined voice, then stepped out the front door.
