Night 41: M51-60 Hallway

May 30, 2009 15:58

Recluse had used his uneventful dinner as time to hammer out and sharpen a new blade for Scourge, and do maintenance on the rest of his own weapons, then changing into his black Arachnos officer's uniform, ready for the night. Then, it had simply been a matter of waiting, impatiently as always, for the doors to unlock ( Read more... )

The second announcement over the intercom was sufficient to warn Rokuta that things most definitely were not as they seemed, only reinforcing what he'd been told and read earlier that day. That was certainly alarming enough, but it was what happened after the door's lock clicked that really disturbed him.

It was like...well, almost as though someone had abruptly flipped a switch. Suddenly where there had been nothing but the harsh scents of cleaners and dull indoor air was a metallic, nauseating tang, one that was entirely familiar and even more unpleasant.

Blood. Blood was heavy on the air, where there had been none of note before. It was like he'd abruptly stepped onto an old battlefield where he'd expected nothing, and Rokuta could feel himself going pale in reaction.

His hands closed into tight fists on his lap, eyes closing as he swallowed hard against a surge of nausea. It wasn't that bad, he told himself firmly. There was no scent of fresh blood; this was all old, distant enough that it wouldn't affect him. Not...too much, ( ... )

His heart froze in his chest as he heard the announcement, dictating that the night shift had finally come upon them. For a long time, Ciel found himself unable to move, a tension seizing him as he thought about what might be on the outside of his door.

The locks had been undone with a loud click that rung through out the room, beckoning him to take advantage while he could and explore. He willed his legs to move forward, unable to quell the foreboding sensation that something was already waiting for him. Perhaps it had been the stagnant stench that filled the air or the sudden chill that crawled down his spine, leaving goosebumps dotting his skin.

Stealing a deep breath, he pocketed the flash light and tried not let the anxiety creep into his features. The last thing he needed was to justify to his roommate that the boy had been right and that he wouldn't be capable of handling this himself when he perfectly wasThere was no reason left to hesitate. It was simply now or never ( ... )

At last! Here it was, M57. Youko knocked on the door, hoping now that Enki hadn't left already. She didn't think he would--the kirin hadn't lived as long as he had by being foolish--but this place was wrong in all kinds of ways, so she didn't want to rule anything out.

A game? Martin Landel wanted to play a game with them? Edgeworth glared hard at the intercom as he finished tying his cravat. What, so you think we're pawns in your game of chess? That you can just move us about as you like?

He let out a hard, exasperated sigh as he gathered his belongings and stepped into the hall. I am not your pawn. And I won't be moved around on a chessboard at anyone else's whim.

He leaned against the wall for just a moment, gathering his thoughts while he waited on Kunzite to drop off his sword.

"You look troubled," came the voice that walked up to the fancily-dressed man leaning on the wall. Aside from this, Kunzite walked up to Edgeworth quietly, forgoing his bow as he held out the sword's hilt. "Has something happened?"

"Ah, good evening," Edgeworth said, trying to regain his composure. "It's nothing to be concerned about, Kunzite. I'm just displeased at that rather obnoxious intercom announcement a moment ago. I don't like the sound of it," he went on to explain.

There was something else nagging at the back of his head, but he chalked that up to simple nerves. It wasn't anything, and as such, wasn't worth bringing up.

The...ah, yes, the ubiquitous commentary provided by the doctor and his underlings when evening falls upon the facility. Kunzite had not paid it much mind at first, but no doubt it was the cause of his own feelings of heightened unease. "There was, indeed, something...distressing about the way those words were delivered. It's perhaps best to be on our guards even more so than usual tonight."

"At any rate, Mr. Edgeworth, I shall leave you to whatever plans you may have tonight. Good luck, and take care." With that, he quickly bowed, turned, and departed the hallway.

What was that stupid voice talking about...? Something about a game..? Geeze..why can't it shut up already? Couldn't Sechs get any peace and quiet when taking a nap around here?!

Wait a second... What was he doing napping?

Before the Replica could think any more on the matter, he was jolted awake by a loud hiss of static. Sechs' yellow eyes snapped open as the electronic shriek rang in his ears. Giving out a muffled growl, his body visibly winced from the unexpected noise as he took in his new surroundings. His once groggy mind now raced with confused thoughts. Where the heck was he?The room he was in was unfamiliar... And why was he sleeping just now? Sechs' perturbed mind trudged through his memory banks. What was he doing before? ...Ah! He was getting a tune-up from his Cybertechs, that's what! Hmm... speaking of which ( ... )

When the intercom had come on announcing the beginning of the night Jason had immediately started collecting what supplies he'd need before he left. He'd barely been paying any attention to the other body in the room by that point. The man hadn't moved at all since he'd entered the room and didn't show any signs of being about to wake up. That bit of carelessness cost him as he was too slow to react when the man suddenly leaped out of the bed and launched himself at Jason, slamming him face first into the wall ( ... )

So that son of a bitch was gonna fight back instead of answer Sechs questions eh? The Replica would have barked out a laugh at the stranger's lowly attempts to hurt him. Stomp down on his foot and jab him in the side will he? HAH! Such pathetic moves wouldn't even be able to leave a mark on his armored Fizziroy body!

And yet...they did.

The sudden surge of pain that shot up from his foot and side sent Sechs stumbling backwards. A gruff gasp rumbled out from his chest as he lost his hold against the stranger. The hell?! Stepping back slightly with his hand clutched upon his side, Sechs' eyes caught a glimpse of the other man's face. From what Sechs could tell, the stranger he was facing wasn't a cyborg in anyway. The softer flesh he briefly felt under his hand when he slammed him against the wall indicated that the man was probably human.

But...how was that possible?

Sechs' eyes briefly flickered down to find that he wasn't in his armor. Ah right... He had his outfit removed for his tune-up...but, wasn't his casual clothing ( ... )

Jason spun to face the man as soon as he was released, fists coming up ready to fight. It was the first good look he'd gotten at the bastard and he was unimpressed. He'd taken bigger guys on before. The yellow eyes and the way he seemed almost surprised by the jab to the side made him think metahuman. Which in this place was another point in Jason's favour since whatever powers this dipshit might have had weren't going to be working so well, if at all.

He was obviously confused about where he was - asking some shit about a team and base. A new arrival then. Someone who'd just been kidnapped and woken up here. Figured the bastard would get dumped on him but he was almost grateful for the opportunity. No toothed, acid-spewing sacks of guts here, just a good brawl with something he could actually hit. Jason could try and explain things to the moron, since they might just be expected to share a room from now on and if they tried to kill each other every night - well, that could be a bad thing. But he wasn't any more in the mood to be ( ... )

Knocking on M53~ clockmongler May 31 2009, 18:14:32 UTC
[Hopping a hallway from here]

All right then, he'd simply find a way once they arrived. He would not sing. They could not force him to.

...Well, that did not take so long, as he soon found M53. X knocked his flashlight against the door, being the gentleman he was. After all, he could not chastise II for never doing so and then barge in himself. It would be hypocritical of him.

Meh. Why did someone have to bother him tonight? Xigbar was of the opinion that he should just go to sleep, perhaps for a night or two, heal up, and then go on from there. That was his thing, after all; get hunting done, enjoy it, then sleep until it was time to do it all over again. Couldn't very well do that with someone knocking on the door, though.

With a sigh, he put his pillow over his head and called out, "Go away, I'm not here!"

It seemed Xigbar had taken the same tactic X had used when he was injured. With a shake of his head and a sigh, Luxord let himself into the room, casually making his way to his downed friend and resting a hand on his shoulder. It was saddening to see the Freeshooter this way, really. X almost empathized with him, had it not been for that pesky "no heart" business or II's own stupidity getting him into this mess.

"Somehow, I do not believe that."

Oh, it was Luxord, huh? Well, Xigbar guessed he could let that go. Just so long as it was the Gambler, that'd be swell. Unless he had stopped by to play a game of cards or something.

While Xigbar didn't raise the pillow or anything, his voice did lighten up a little bit. "Heh, too smart for me, I guess. So what are you doin' here?"

As soon as he was able to leave the room, Kaito was out the door, carrying his box of medical supplies with his pipe balanced on top of it. He didn't want to waste any time getting the only reason the detectives would have to visit his room again as far away from it as possible... And that meant turning the supplies over to Hattori immediately.

He'd wanted to talk to the detectives about relocation the supplies when he'd seen them earlier, but it had slipped his mind with all the other issues he'd been thinking about. But at least this way, they didn't have a say in the matter, or worse: come to the room to help move the supplies.
