Day 41: Intercom, Dawn

May 11, 2009 05:32

Just like usual, the intercom came on soon after dawn, pulling most patients out of their "sleep" to start a new day ( Read more... )

She'd been warned that this patient was volatile, but when he looked at her so desperately, it was difficult not to wish she'd opted out of coming to get him today. Smiling as reassuringly as possible, the nurse moved closer to Michael. "Please, calm down, Mr. Blake. Who are you talking about? No one has died that I'm aware of."

That was right, they had different names here and yesterday the nurse had called Clark... "Kal. He- he died. Last night. What happened to his- his body."

It was a struggle to get the words out at all as his body seemed intent on undermining his efforts with tears and an inability to talk without his breath hitching or to stop shaking. Shock from last night's events and his injuries, he thought distantly. The knowledge didn't make them stop.

He winced and tried to shift himself into a more comfortable position without agitating any wounds, something that proved nearly impossible thanks to Grell's efforts.

"I just... I just want to know what you did with him. That's all," he managed. "Please..."

Kal? Oh, right. This boy's friend and one that had made leaps and bounds within the past few days. The nurse felt relief wash through her since this was one patient she knew the truth about and could give Michael the information he needed. Perhaps he'd calm down a little and stop thinking his friend was dead if he knew that his family had just come to pick him up that morning?

And maybe then he'd stop getting himself hurt like this. Really, he should have known better than to attempt stairs in his condition. Shaking her head, the nurse went over to him and gently rubbed his back, careful to avoid injuries. "Shh, it's okay. He was released this morning to his parents, Mr. Blake. And he was quite happy, too, so you don't need to think he's dead, he's just gone home."

Misa tossed her head from one side to the other, murmuring unintelligibly. It had been a few days that she had been on her own, strapped down, blindfolded, and questioned incessantly. She had been strong, though - she'd had to be, because Light needed her to be. That thought had sustained her through all of it. It will be okay. Light needs me. When I come out of this, he'll be waiting for me with open arms, and we'll be happy together.

...wait. She hadn't been able to move this much in a while. That thought made her wake from her light, disturbed sleep, and then realize that she wasn't strapped down anymore. She wasn't blindfolded. It felt as if she'd been treated somehow - her mouth didn't feel dry, at least, and there were no marks on her wrists and ankles from having been tied down. She reached one hand up to her hair - soft, clean, pigtailed. What?Misa sat up slowly, rubbing sleep from her eyes. She looked around - looked like a hospital room? Had she been rescued and put in a hospital to get better? She twirled a piece of hair ( ... )

Raphael woke up and immediately knew something was wrong, even before he opened his eyes. His body was just... wrong. In about every way it possibly could be. Not to mention he was also, from the feel of it, on a bed. Which was a hell of a long way from where he remembered curling up to close his eyes for a few minutes on the cold concrete of Coney Island. He couldn't think of who would be able to sneak up on him and then, when they had, go out of their way to put him in a bed before they messed with him, but they were going to find out that you didn't get away with that kind of stuff.

In one smooth movement, his eyes snapped open and he sprang off the bed and onto the floor, surprising whoever was in the room with him-

-which turned out to be no one. Not one to be deterred, Raphael glared around the room and then down at himself. And realised why he'd felt like his whole body was wrong.

"What the HELL?!"

He was human. Human. No shell, too much hair, fragile hands and feet... Human. He couldn't even begin to think about how that ( ... )

A nurse and two orderlies ran down the hall at the sound of that first impact with the door, but the second, louder crack sent them running into the room. The nurse had a syringe in hand, and the orderlies were ready to go.

"Mr. Nolan!" Her voice was loud and sharp. "I understand that you might be confused and concerned, but destruction of property is absolutely uncalled for! It is against the rules here at Landel's Institute, and this will go into your file."

Hopefully that would be enough to calm him down, but if not, the orderlies were ready to move at her signal.

Raphael barely paid attention to what the woman was yelling, just that the door was open and there were now some convenient targets who could be persuaded to tell him what the hell was going on. That worked for him. The chair went from being makeshift club to makeshift projectile as he flung it at the woman and dove for the closest of the two men. He'd taken on rooms of Foot ninja before, so a couple of thugs weren't even going to slow him down.

Even with a new body that just felt completely off balance and...

He yelled and set about trying to rearrange the other guy's face despite the differences in size and muscle. At the moment there was a fight to concentrate on. After that he could worry about other stuff. Maybe things would make more sense then.

The orderlies didn't even need to be signaled. They moved the moment that chair went flying, and while one edge of it hit one of them squarely in the chest, the other moved around it, blocking blows as much as he could.

This just couldn't go on, and it wasn't a case where they could just let him get the frustration out by throwing things. One of the orderlies managed to get hold of Raphael's left arm, and the nurse ran in and swiftly injected a dose of sedatives into the young man. "I'm sorry to have to do this, but you've given us no choice."

She nodded to the orderlies, and they marched him down the hall and to the cafeteria.

Kibitoshin rolled out of bed and hit the floor with a loud thump.

That was going to leave a mark. He groaned softly, rubbing his lower back with the one hand he could get free from the sheets he seemed to have entangled himself in- and then froze. Something, he decided, was not right. For a moment he lay still, stunned and entangled in soft white linen as he tried to work it out. Maybe it was the sheets. They were a lot nicer than his usual ones. Or maybe it was the time? Though it didn’t feel especially early… this was just too confusing!

Sighing, he brought a slim white hand up to his head and scratched it helplessly. The answer was probably staring him in the-

Wait. Slim, white hand ( ... )
