Day 40: Intercom, Evening

Apr 14, 2009 06:18

There wasn't any jingle as the intercom came on; it sounded like the Head Doctor was still having issues with the system, and it also seemed like he was none too pleased about it.

"Well, everyone, I hope that you all had more fun this last shift than I did! Hahahaaa ( Read more... )

Okita was glad to get back to his room. He'd pocketed a few of the flowers and managed to smuggle them back to his room, but not before his nurse bandaged his hand up. He made up some excuse about having pricked it badly on a thorn and then left it at that. The nurse sighed and chided him, but did nothing more to punish him ( ... )

The talk with Luke had gone well enough despite some awkwardness. Guy was always willing to help his friend, even with uncomfortable questions. He wasn't sure if he always had the best advice, but Luke seemed to trust him, and Guy was doing his best to make sure that trust wasn't misplaced. He had wanted to discuss Asch with his friend too, but they just hadn't had time ( ... )

Guy seemed to be in good spirits again when he came into the room and Okita made sure to smile at him when he was addressed. He also seemed hungry, so letting him eat would be a good idea. "Good evening, Guy-san. And yes, I've been doing well today ( ... )

Guy couldn't know for sure if Okita actually meant what he said, but he was going to hope that it was the truth. Everyone here deserved to have some good days to outweigh the bad nights. He supposed there were also bad days and good nights, but those were much rarer ( ... )

Kvothe frowned to himself at the sound of the evening announcement, Landel had been sounding more and more off and that probably wouldn't be good for the prisoners, but he decided it wasn't something to worry about just then. He had more immediate things to worry about, like seeing Tony again over dinner. He wasn't sure if he should dread it or not, he still wasn't entirely sure what exactly had gotten Tony angry at breakfast, he'd been trying but it had been hard just to think...at least his head felt clear but his hand was in so much pain ( ... )

Kvothe nodded, still watching Tony, not letting his thoughts show on his face though the pain showed through in how pale he was and in the tension around his mouth. He really should have asked the nurse about getting something different for the pain...

He didn't know what to say to Tony. 'It's okay?' He'd felt abandoned when Tony had stormed off, but he knew that Tony had been hurt when he couldn't talk about what happened overnight...he couldn't have talked about it then though without a chance first to sort that out for himself. Maybe once he'd gotten more distance from the previous night he'd feel more like himself. He hated feeling like this, confused and helpeless and in pain.

After a few moments he brought the icepack back to his face as he turned to Tony's second comment. "Yeah. If you see a bald guy with a tattoo of a spider on his forehead, go the other way. He's insane, violent and probably on some things he didn't get from the nurses."

Talking to Bridget had helped. Armand didn't like how volatile his moods were lately. He figured it was the pressure he was putting on himself lately to try to lead a new club, even one as embryonic as it was. And it was so vague, he knew, because there were decisive steps he found it hard to take. Some part of him was sure this was destined to failure, but he knew he couldn't fail. There were people depending on him now not to fail ( ... )

On the whole, Badou was feeling a lot better by the end of the day. Harassing Luxord helped burn off some steam, and the conversations throughout the day hadn't been what anyone would call emotionally taxing. Even the one with Alle had turned out alright in the end and his last shift with Wally had been pretty relaxing.

He'd have to hunt down Renamon tomorrow assuming she hadn't gotten booted out of the institute or something. He hadn't seen her all day but that didn't mean a whole lot in Badou's experience. Alkaid had disappeared on and off before she -- well whatever. The point was that it didn't mean much and it was way too simple of a way for his bad luck to manifest again. Maybe he'd run into giant mutant squirrels tonight and they'd bite off his n-- arm so the universe could call things even without having a shitty sense of humor about it ( ... )

Because Badou had been very much on Armand's mind, he followed the man's movements when he entered. The wave eased his mind, though he didn't want to be the first to break the silence. At least it wasn't a scowl or a curse. Armand gave Badou a grateful smile, then breathed easier as he doggedly twirled noodles onto his fork.

Was that a little too much encouragement, or was his roommate was suddenly feeling more personable? Not that he'd be able to tell with the amount of real attention he'd been paying Armand since his failed spying escapade...not to mention their less than spectacular first meeting.

Usually he would have just forgotten about it after some complaining but his personal conversations weren't anyone's business but his own - and lately, all his conversations with Artemis were a little too personal.

Really, he didn't even need that thin reasoning. Badou could hold a grudge just fine for the sole purpose of being a dick. It was nice to have someone to annoy when he was in a bad mood. Fortunately for Armand, he was in a fairly pleasant mood this fine evening. He speared a meatball on the end of his fork and cocked an eyebrow at his roommate. "What's gotten into you today, french fry? Finally get laid or something?"

For a day filled with nothing, it had left Juri tired. She wondered if her night would be just as empty. The blankness of it somehow scared her a little. She'd run this time. Maybe toward the back instead, now she knew her way to the recreation field. She was sure she could get over that wall. The front doors weren't the only way out. The plan unfolded in her mind as she began to eat.

Dinner was still very western, but noodles with tomato sauce, salad and bread weren't that horrid a prospect. Juri hadn't seen her roommate all day, even at a distance, so she wondered if the girl had made any progress with her radios. She'd have to ask, if only to be polite.

The intercom signaling dinner time was a mixed blessing, as far as Daphne was concerned. On the one hand, the previous night's solitary dining period had given her far too much time alone with her own thoughts, and she had no reason to anticipate a change for the upcoming one. Sure, she had more to think about than simple panic over the crippling of her abilities and the sense of being trapped, but none of it was the sort of thing she wanted to replay over and over either. On the other hand, dinner meant a lack of further chances to damage the space-time continuum. She made a mental note to ask Hiro how the hell he juggled the dilemma the next time she saw him. Of course, the next time she saw Hiro would probably not come until after she had found a way out of the hospital, so it would be a moot point ( ... )

This was not her room. Beatrix was none too pleased to find herself herded to a room in an entirely different hallway than the one F33 was in. She'd had too much stuff hidden in that room, too many important things. She could deal with the loss of the drugs and medical supplies. She could even deal with the loss of some of the miscellaneous items. What she could not deal with was the loss of her sword and the bitch's severed braid. Injured as she was, moving quite slowly with her left arm in a sling to keep her heavily bandaged shoulder immobile on top of the unseen wounds and the superficial cuts that made it quite clear she'd been in a nasty fight the night before, she would kill the nurses the next time she laid eyes on them if those two items were missing ( ... )

Apparently, she wouldn't be dining solo after all. Any relief Daphne felt over the change was short-lived. Despite being obviously injured, the other woman was unnerving, though the thief was willing to chalk some of that up to her uncommunicative demeanor. She watched out of the corner of her eye, keeping up the appearance of having her attention mostly fixed on her meal, as her new roommate searched through the closet and the desk. She couldn't begin to guess what she was looking for ( ... )

Her roommate didn't seem that quick on the uptake. No matter.

"Oddly enough, yes," Beatrix replied as she went about the annoying task of trying to eat spaghetti one-handed. "I used to be in another room."
