Day 40: Intercom, Evening

Apr 14, 2009 06:18

There wasn't any jingle as the intercom came on; it sounded like the Head Doctor was still having issues with the system, and it also seemed like he was none too pleased about it.

"Well, everyone, I hope that you all had more fun this last shift than I did! Hahahaaa ( Read more... )

Guy couldn't know for sure if Okita actually meant what he said, but he was going to hope that it was the truth. Everyone here deserved to have some good days to outweigh the bad nights. He supposed there were also bad days and good nights, but those were much rarer.

He started in on his food, making sure to eat the pasta without slurping. This sort of food was especially good for immediate energy, so he wasn't going to waste the meal. There was a good chance they would run into another special counseling patient tonight, but Guy was hoping they could actually get past them this time. Having the energy and strength for such a tough fight was important.

"My day went pretty well, thanks," Guy said once he was able to take a break from his dinner. There had been that awkward moment with Dias during the second shift, but getting to speak to both Anise and Luke had left Guy in a good mood, even if Anise wasn't doing so well and Luke had asked him about same-sex relationships.

Guy couldn't help smiling at Okita's next question. It was odd how there were so many kinds of food that his roommate wasn't familiar with. "Those are called croutons, and yeah, they're pretty tasty," he agreed. Guy just hadn't been in the mood for salad when pasta was so much more filling.

Guy certainly had been hungry and while Okita knew it was important to eat, he couldn't find the red sauce all that appetizing. It reminded him too much of blood and the mess it left behind was even worse. Instead, he kept to bread and salad, which he didn't mind too much. As Guy ate, so did he, finishing half of the caesar while picking at the bread.

It was good to hear that Guy's day had gone well though. For once both of them seemed to be in good spirits, which made for a pleasant evening. Okita eyed the 'crouton' thing and then stuck it in his mouth, smiling. "Croutons. Thank you. I thought Guy-san would know~" Finishing off his salad, Okita sat back and twirled the fork aimlessly in his uninjured hand. "So did you have good conversations today?"

It was sort of endearing how his roommate was so happy just to hear the name of a food he didn't know, and Guy hoped that Okita wasn't just putting on an act. He didn't like how he kept having to second-guess that, and he wondered if he should just attempt to forget about it and take things at face value whenever he could.

Guy nodded in response to his roommate's question. "Yeah, actually. I got to talk to two of my friends from home, Luke included, so that was good." Guy actually wasn't sure if Okita had any people from home here at this point, so he thought it was better not to ask about that directly. Instead, he could take the easy way out. "How about you? Anything interesting?" Since it was now Okita's turn to talk, Guy went back to his pasta, wanting to finish it off before dinner came to an end.

The name Luke pinged Okita's memory and he recalled hearing that 'Luke' had formerly vanished. He was glad to hear Guy's friend was back, but secretly hoped that Guy wouldn't get too attached. Okita had seen people come and go far too often to hold out hope for too long, but he did wish Guy luck in keeping people. At least, better luck than Okita had. "Oh! I'm glad that you were able to talk to them. It's always nice to be able to touch base with people from home."

Okita always felt better after confirming that Ayumu was still around. Poking at the bread suspiciously, Okita pulled a piece off and nibbled on it to have something more than just vegetables in his stomach. He'd need energy tonight if they were going to go upstairs like Homura commanded. Taking a bite to buy himself some time, Okita shrugged a little and then thought better of it, nodding. "I met some new people today - a girl named Yuffie and a boy named Jaime Reyes. They were both very interesting. Oh! And I finally got to go to the greenhouse! It was very nice inside. Did you go there today, too?"

Even though Okita went so far as to give the names of the people he had met, Guy didn't recognize either of them. He was pretty sure he had seen the name "Yuffie" on the bulletin board a few times, but that didn't mean he had much of an idea about who she was. He finished off his food as he thought it over.

At his roommate's question, Guy nodded. "Yeah, I did. That's where I talked to Luke, so I was kind of too busy to do any gardening." It would have been nice to get his hands dirty with something other than sweat and blood, but it would have to wait until next time. "But had you never been there before? I'm surprised." Okita had been around for about as long as Guy had, after all. He should have gone before, unless he had decided to stay in the Sun Room during the previous times.

It was around that point that the intercom came on for the head doctor to give his last announcement of the day. After that, he would show his true colors. Guy got up quickly from his seat, wanting to gather his things before the lights went out. "Looks like that's our cue. I guess I'll see you tomorrow, then?"
