Nightshift 38 - General Storage

[From hereClark did his best to ignore his stinging finger. It hurt, but it wasn't as bad as nearly getting gored that time with Claire, to put things in perspective. Still, if he was supposed to be as powerless as a human, he wished it'd gone all the way; right now it seemed to be in this uncomfortable halfway point and he had no idea if he still ( Read more... )

Brainiac 5 blinked and arched an eyebrow at Clark's display with opening the door. Considering the Superman he had known in his own time, he had expected something more... dramatic, such as bursting the door off its hinges. Clark was obviously more cautious here than he'd given him credit for. He didn't miss how Clark clutched at his finger afterwards though.

"Are you hurt?" he asked automatically, hovering uncertainly by the other's side. Normally something as simple as that should not have even been noticeable to the hero. "Your invulnerability must be affected as well," he mused. "You'll have to be more careful in that case, I wouldn't like it if... That is, I wouldn't be able to help you as well here if you did get hurt."

Clark shook his finger ruefully. "I'm okay, it's not that bad."

He already knew about the issues with his powers but hearing someone else talk about it like it was still a bit weird - the only people who even knew about his powers back home were his parents and Pete. Brainy had a point though - somehow he didn't think the smaller boy would have much luck dragging him around if he was hurt. Clark knew he was almost freakishly big for his age and he doubted Brainy had any super-strength. To be honest, he still wasn't entirely sure what abilities Brainy did have, aside from having an uncanny knowledge about Krypton and himself. Anyway, they weren't here just to poke doors open and realized he could stub parts of himself like a human. Clark looked around, frowning.

"You see anything you could use?" he asked, taking a step deeper inside.

Brainiac 5 nodded. He hadn't been expect Clark to be badly hurt or anything from something so minor, but to be honest, he hadn't thought that Clark's abilities would be so affected that he would notice anything as minor as pushing the lock out of a door. It was something else he would have to make note of and investigate further at a later time ( ... )

Clark shook his head. It'd probably be easier to just x-ray the room, but while that seemed to be the safest of his powers, it was still unreliable. It might not work or it might be about as painful as using his heat vision had been earlier - should probably just stick to searching through stuff the old fashioned way, as in manually. Clark by now had wandered off, rummaging through some boxes and coming up with more of the same that Brainy had found. Some clothes for the staff, gloves, a few first aid kits and some Tylenol. Clark had no idea if it'd help him, but he couldn't see why he shouldn't take some just in case.

He held up the bottle. "Some Tylenol, but I don't see any flashlights here. Maybe we should check another room?"

[from here]

This room had been crowded the other night, thanks to the two men who had been taking apart things for their own purposes. Still, Xelloss remembered the medical supplies, although they had seemed to be mostly light rather than the laboratory tools that he supposed were on the other side of the building. The most obvious items were, of course, the lab coats... but those were certainly medical supplies. Technically speaking.

"Does anything in this room look useful, too?" He was a little curious just to see what the king would want, if anything, here.

Now that Porky had some makeshift weapons, courtesy of the janitor's closet, he could focus on less pressing matters. Like storage, for instance. At the moment, all Porky had to carry things in were his pockets and a bucket. That wouldn't do at all. Perhaps if Porky had some manner of bag ( ... )

If pressed, Xelloss could have explained that he was holding the shovel for self-defense, and that carrying supplies for Porky as well would weigh him down and prevent him from possibly fighting off monsters. Not that he'd ever specifically said that he would protect the king, had just allowed the king to raise the issue and then led the man along. Leaving him in a pinch would be entertaining if the opportunity arose...

Sadly, it just didn't seem likely for tonight, which was especially too bad considering how King Porky seemed rather satisfied with his gatherings. It wasn't usually that neat when there was an attack here, anyhow. Monsters had a funny habit of ganging up at uncomfortable times. It might be easier even if they were attacked to just fight than to try to escape and be hurt in the effort, and that wasn't worth it to see a king get eaten alive by some unlikely animal mutation, hybrid, zombie or chimera. As much fun as that by itself would be ( ... )
