[From hereClark did his best to ignore his stinging finger. It hurt, but it wasn't as bad as nearly getting gored that time with Claire, to put things in perspective. Still, if he was supposed to be as powerless as a human, he wished it'd gone all the way; right now it seemed to be in this uncomfortable halfway point and he had no idea if he still ( Read more... )

If pressed, Xelloss could have explained that he was holding the shovel for self-defense, and that carrying supplies for Porky as well would weigh him down and prevent him from possibly fighting off monsters. Not that he'd ever specifically said that he would protect the king, had just allowed the king to raise the issue and then led the man along. Leaving him in a pinch would be entertaining if the opportunity arose...

Sadly, it just didn't seem likely for tonight, which was especially too bad considering how King Porky seemed rather satisfied with his gatherings. It wasn't usually that neat when there was an attack here, anyhow. Monsters had a funny habit of ganging up at uncomfortable times. It might be easier even if they were attacked to just fight than to try to escape and be hurt in the effort, and that wasn't worth it to see a king get eaten alive by some unlikely animal mutation, hybrid, zombie or chimera. As much fun as that by itself would be.

Taking bandages or other supplies for himself simply didn't occur to him. As long as Xelloss had spent in this human body now, the foresight that injuries needed cleaning and binding sometimes very quickly wasn't terribly driven in. Even when he'd been hurt, the Institute itself had cleaned it up efficiently overnight, like his own 'body's' regeneration. "Oh, you must have a very creative mind, your highness. I'm sure you'll do well here with that kind of mindset! I think it's the most important aspect to survival."

Well, that or hiding, but hiding wouldn't ensure nobody would come by the room at night and kidnap them away to whatever fate awaited those unfortunate individuals, like Lord Hellmaster. And being active was far more entertaining.
