Day 21: Intercom, Dawn

Jan 11, 2007 02:47

The sun rose as it always did--over peaks of mountains and the valley between. Light washed through the windows and over the floors of Landel's Institute, and it seemed to be in good spirits that the Head Doctor clicked on the intercom and said his piece ( Read more... )

After living this life as a monk, Naoe was a little surprised how easily he fell into the role of a business assistant. The man that had come to him with the nightmares of a woman was very kind and concerned about what was the right path for him to take. Seeing a man with so much power openly express so much insecurity was something that Naoe was not used to. But it was nice ( ... )

Dying wasn't a surprise, nor was it unwelcome. Haku had long known he would die, ever since the day Father came home with the villagers and killed Mother. He would have killed Haku as well, but Haku was simply faster. On the streets, Haku had known that death was always just behind him. Soon enough, death would appear to take him away, take him off the streets and then there would be nothing anymore ( ... )

Had he ever become an existence that was needed? It had stopped mattering. There had been nothing, but the white turned to black. Nothing pressed against his eyelids. Gaara realized that he looked at his eye-lids, that he had been asleep. His eyes opened quickly, alarm shocking them, but the rest of him remained still. Gaara looked at the ceiling, his heart beating quickly in his ears. Beating ( ... )

"Oh!" A woman, in the doorway, and her hand flying to her chest. "Good Morning, Mr. Sanders!" The nurse chirped, her smile far too wide to be any person known to him. She wore white, a civilian style, but not one of the Sand. He stared at her, saying nothing, expressing nothing ( ... )

Otacon awoke at the sound of the intercom, completely confused.

But he didn’t panic at the feeling of not knowing where he was or how he’d arrived there, as he often was that confused in the mornings. It came from regularly pulling all-nighters online, powered by nothing but caffeine and the urgency of time, and dragging himself to bed only when he was at his most mindlessly zombie-like state. The voice was probably coming from one of his computers recording some sort of decrypted transmission…

Then Otacon finally remembered the whole debacle with the Big Shell, and opened his eyes to a white blur. It was definitely not his room-that place had barely any white, what with all the electronics and anime posters and shelves full of books and model kits. It occurred to him that now would be a very good time to start panicking.

Don’t jump to conclusions, he admonished himself, although he wasn’t sure how well his heart rate was cooperating with that. One step at a time. Otacon reached around the blur and soon landed upon a pair of ( ... )

Ugh...

Not for the first time in his life, Squall Leonhart awoke with a throbbing pain in his head. The voice from the intercom was ignored, his fogged brain deciding it was some announcement at the prison he was being kept at and was therefore not relevant to him.

It felt like his head had been run over by a train, and then the train had backed up over him and run him over a second time. The only thing he could compare to it was the time Seifer had slashed his face open during that one training match they'd had.

Seifer. That bastard. The last Squall remembered, he was still attached to that damn wall like some sick sacrifice, while Seifer and that sadistic guard had been taking turns zapping him and watching him twitch like some half-dead insect. He sat up, rubbing his face and trying to get his migraine to fade ( ... )

"Are there other people here?" he asked, and just let her lead him out into the hallway. He took note of his surroundings. Most of it was white. A typical hospital setting. Institute, she'd said.

So, what? Do they think I'm crazy or something? I think I'm getting there, at this rate.

"Of course, Mr. Flowers. Did you think you were the only one here? Silly. You'll make a lot of new friends at breakfast, I'm sure. Just try to be more talkative!" She beamed at him, and Squall just rolled his eyes once her back was turned again. Well, if there were other people here, maybe he'd get to see some of the others. He hoped they were still alive. He'd see if they were here, and if not, he'd find a way to get the hell out of this place and find them.

"Leon", huh?

...what a stupid name.
